I don’t see a lot of people talk about the Class 20, I know it’s quite an old DLC but I think it’s still very good, just as good as the 31 (which seems to get more attention). It’s got a good model, good sounds and is fun to drive with the added bonus of a working hotplate and some locos having worn out horns (I believe 20 118, 122, 059, 090, 104, 023 all have unique forward horns) and that’s not even mentioning it’s most obvious and most unique feature, one cab with 2 desks. The 20 can be used on a lot of routes mostly for rail tours but if you’re driving freight on TVL there’s some driving challenge since it’s not as powerful as the 31 and much much weaker than the 37; If you find you’re self driving from the front desk it also adds a little more challenge because of the small window. If you have the 20, use if some more, if you don’t have have I recommend at least having a look at what is has to offer.
I think it's the best-sounding loco, at least in my collection, idling, at full chat up the Lickey, and yes the horns are good fun too. Get the windows open, give it some thrash and I'll be grinning from ear to ear!
Thoroughly agree. I'm currently running the Class 20 timetable layer on Blackpool Branches and having a lot of fun with it.
The Class 20 is one of those older locos that transpire love and dedication from the creators to me. Worn out, old heavy iron, tricky brakes on a loud beast. A classic workhorse with long operation hours. Love to take her on TVL. And - inspired by foreposters - I'll have run on BPO. That should be fun.
The Class 20 is really underrated, being released on TSW OG, till this day I still find it to be well made, the sound is beautiful to my ears and what a pleasure to put a double unit, then thrash them. I also like that tiny detail with the stove burner, when turning it on, we can see the coil resistance turning red.
Definitely one of my favourite locos in the game! I do find it a little annoying that the rear horns often sound much better than the front facing horns, I noticed you mentioned "worn out horns" but you only mentioned two having that - every one I drive has it on the flat end for me, but not the horns on the nose end annoyingly.. another issue I have is that the engine is quieter with the windows open! Other than those little bugs it's an amazing add-on and thankfully the bugs mentioned aren't huge issues, for me at least. Anyway, definitely a great add-on and I wish we could see it in more routes; I would absolutely love to do a railtour with it on SEHS and all other modern routes for that matter, and see it on more older routes too of course - without using free roam preferably...
I’ve not tried it yet but it’s on my list. Any old BR diesels get my vote and it’s good to let DTG know they’re appreciated.
Okay, sorry.. this is an appreciation post and I'm here posting some bugs about it.. I should put that in the feedback thread instead!
It would be nice to see it some way back in time, compared to the late 80's. It would be great to see a 20 in BR Blue or Green era, alongside a 03/05 and a 25/35. In an old route from the late 50's - early 60's!
In all the time I've had the Class 20, never once have I actually used it. Should give it a go some time.
It really needs its own route to do it justice. Nottinghamshire coalfield with summer Saturday holiday trains to Skegness. Sign me up on Day One.
Mainly freight in real life, but they did get used on passenger services from time to time - mainly additional services in summer. They almost always worked in pairs, coupled nose to nose, so as to limit the amount of running with the Driver having a very restricted view along the side of the loco.
My TSW4 really appreciates the CL20. So much so that any attempt to make a scenario with a pair of 37s in it results in a pair of 20s appearing instead.
Actually I'm hoping to get some CL20 Jolly Fisherman type formations into the game so that we can run double-headed 10 coach services. Hopefully these will look good on PFR and TVL. If everything works out I'll put some screenshots up on this thread (probably next week).
I do really like the class 20 and the BPO route; my favourite feature would have to be the working fire Bell test
Agreed, a very nice loco and really wish we could return to having loco dlcs like this. I have always enjoyed the 20, and it does look good in the BR blue liveries available on Creators club. Would be very nice to see it be part of a more dedicated route, supplemented by a 56. If I may I will attach a couple of screenshots:
I also love the class 20 , sounds great one of the best sounding diesels in TSW .their sound is very similar to old ALCO S series switchers here in US they used back in the day some still exist in museums shortline industrial use today
Yeah the class 20 is one of my favourites as well, just sounds and feels alive, clanking and banging away, on full throttle it's incredible on a heavy load.
The class 20 just seems to be a bigger brother of the class 08 or gonk. Just finished the Tee side timetable with it, very nice loco, it has a lot of detail, sounds good. Would love to get more use out of it on other routes.
WSR is nice, but not nice as it has all the trains you love retired and running 20mph. Blackpool should be good, is the cathcart heritage?
Great Loco. I would love this and the 31 to get the TOD4 upgrade, plus the Just Trains BPO exhaust emissions. To me, it's one of the best sounding units in the game, just needs to be utilised more on future routes.
WSR is heritage but it's also got big gradients and the class 20 with six or seven carriages does work hard and makes plenty of noise. Cathcart Circle isn't heritage but it doesn't have the highest speeds however it runs non stop to it's locations so plenty of noise
