Just a few questions about the whole process of capturing sounds etc with relation to the azuma. I bloody love this route and find it relaxing. But there's some things I don't like. The running sounds. Are they reflective of real life. It's barely audible at all. Why no buzzer sounds? I am curious why dovetail could not capture the sounds for the buzzer given most other routes if not all British etc have some form of buzzer sound. How do they go about capturing the sounds of the locos overall. Do they have different test conditions as such they record etc. Running at full speed. Are the horns recorded in real life etc. Just fascinated by it all.
The 801 is mainly bought from armstrong powerhouse. Dtg were able to visit a real 801 but couldn't move it anywhere so they had to buy it. They did mention they plan on trying to get a full recording session with the 801 but I don't think that's happened yet. If they are able to run the train at line speed, they can do all sorts of things to get accurate sounds if the toc allows them to. The f125 is an example of what good recorded sounds can sound like if they implement it correctly
If you are driving from the first class end, you can open the sliding doors to the Guard’s/parcel compartment behind the cab which are not interlocked, then the interior cab door to let a bit more sound in. But generally yes, the sound levels are too low, the front coach of an 801 is not that quiet IRL and there’s such a thing as buffing the audio level for entertainment purposes. Sadly DTG have a habit of buying in quality sounds from AP or similar then completely banjaxing the mix and levels, same as on the Class 700.
The omission of even the sound of the guard buzzer is annoying and really interesting to me, especially since the majority of the sounds come from AP and their own stationary recordings, why couldn’t they get that sound from AP? Or even record it themselves? Did they forget? I could maybe let it pass if the 801 was driven in DOO but that’s not the case irl, not even being able to role play both driver and guard is very immersion breaking.
