Why do we need new game every 12 months? I don’t particularly understand the point of having to install entirely new game then reinstall all of the add ons you own. Why not just charge for updated game like when they release new game? then buy add ons separately? just seems pointless to me. Train sim on pc don’t have new game.
Well there isn’t anyway round it with another explanation, it’s not needed from a game perspective, so it’s to provide income/profit for DTG.
yeah so long as it is on the same unreal engine it seems pointless to me to release new game versions each time unless it is the playstation or xbox achievements limit that it needs resetting to a new game every few years too bad playstation does not want over 500 achievements or so (TSW 2 had 435 achievements total)
When I bought the game it was on number 2. I was under the impression a number 3 would be coming. It would have been weird if after all at that time it would have still be named Train Sim World 2. I would probably be demanding version 3 and demanding to know what is taking so long because looking at what other popular simulator franchises do we could already have gotten TSW 6.
Doesn’t the OP belong in the Enough is Enough thread? Anyway DTG will do as they wish come late summer or early autumn. It will either be TSW5 or a major service pack with the option to buy a big route bundle. Entirely up to consumers whether they choose to buy in or not. In the case of TSW4 I bought the PC version but on the PS5 stuck with TSW3. No different to any other major games developer, particularly sports management sims, who not only put out a new version each year but immediately withdraw the predecessor from sale thus preventing people from buying into the game with a potentially cheaper version. Again, you are the customer and your choice whether or not to buy. Different companies have different policies. SCS with their truck games have continued to refresh and update the core for free, the whole thing funded by their very attractively priced DLC. Run 8, put out a new version every three or four years, fund the game through selling relatively expensive loco and car packs and never have a sale on their stuff.
DTG releases a new TSW game every 12 months with all the improvements, new route(s), train(s) with a load of promises (suspension) and not much done about the bugs or glitches, in fact DTG probably create more. It is a revenue stream for DTG, it is a stealth subscription model without calling it a subscription service. You need to fund DTG to keep TSW alive, but for that they need to address bugs and glitches and are they?
They kinda had. Until the old Train Simulator was renamed to Train Simulator Classic few years ago, it was renamed every year, and another DLC selection was offered with the initial purchase. Also, this was the update where the major changes were introduced. So, while technically it wasn't a new game (it had the same steam id), it had all the properties of a new game (new title, different starting content, deluxe version, new features, marketing campaign...etc). Renaming is complicated once you're on consoles, because MS and Sony doesn't generally allow title change. So if DTG wanted/wants to do with TSW what they did with TSC, they need to do a true release. Why to do it? Because it works in bringing revenue in attracting new players. As marketing campaign for a 'new' game is generally more efficient than a campaign for a DLC of an existing game. The only thing that complicates it is that you need to buy the new game, if you want to continue to receive updates (which wasn't the case in TSC). So I would like to see DTG offering a 'naked' version, without DLCs, for a symbolic price, as I doubt that they can give it for free for existing users..
can they first fix all older routes/trains to have updated night lighting , Very annoying to play ECW or London to brighton at night but regardless how late it is in game, It looks like its hardly dark and the cab lighting looks like its always on even when its turned off! , I play Gospel oak to barking with class 710/Class 66 and they look really amazing and how every route should look!, Regardless how old they are
I would say it is more of a fix and an upgrade, rather than an upgrade, if you know what I mean, so I do agree.
Hasn't that thread basically become a joke spam thread, with "in before the lock" posts that have nothing to do with the thread, though? Probably better to save your snarky remarks for the summer/fall, because if Dovetail stays true to their form, you'll be seeing a lot more of these threads again when the "new" TSW is announced! Of course, if you don't have anything meaningful to contribute to the thread to begin with, it would probably be better to just ignore such threads in the first place?
I am a "moderator" for calling out such remarks? Isn't this just the bully mentality, "like to dish it, but can't take it"? Just a few posts up from mine. Is this "backseat moderating" as well, then? EDIT: You know, I honestly regret making my post. I thought I should just ignore it (like I do with a lot of other posts as well), and replying would probably derail the entire thread. Should have just listened to myself.
None of those titles expect their long suffering user base to go through the irritating and ludicrous annual song and dance of having to download every single one of their numerous previously purchased DLCs again and again and again... They have, as you well know. Most of the people who posted on previous similar threads have given up with DTG and now abandoned the franchise forever. The current threads are made by a new cohort of seriously discontented users rapidly on their way to becoming ex-customers too and no amount of snarky replies from well seasoned apologists parroting DTG excuses is going to change their minds. It will probably just hasten their departure.
I'm suprised that you didn't realize that this is a person new to the forums who just asked a simple question and may not know that this has been discussed before.
I would brush up on my comprehension skills if I were you, if you think I am an apologist. I am generally more a glass half full person, admittedly, but I complain, often vociferoulsy where I feel moved to do so. Not sure where in my comments I have parroted DTG excuses. Trying to denude peoples points of view by giving them labels is hardly a convincing way to put your point of view across.
Doesn't mean that they don't exist. Fanboys, whitenights, whales, apologists are common in many game franchises and in many aspects of life to be honest
But all the more reason to speculate about "a new game" as I don't see any denial of an upcoming new version (This form really needs a devil smiley)
DTG never stated themselves why actually. Money is the most obvious reason. For the core game I guess in order to make a purchable upgrade achievable, they need to make a new TSW iteration. Otherwise I guess DTG can't handle a paid upgrade with the cooperate stores. However, for the thing about the DLCs. This is is such an annoying point for me as well. Why on earth, Do I have to download and reinstall all of my DLCs again? I mean yes, I could copy the DLCs onto a separate hard drive just for the swap, and then copy the DLCs back into, didn't tried that but still keeps the concern whether the files of the DLCs compatible with old iteration will be compatible with the new game. Fortunately, I have a fast internet connection available and thus could download the DLCs relatively quickly back again, but it actually makes zero sense to redownload files of about 80 to 100 GByte again. I got a monthly flat rate, however if my internet provider would charge per traffic, long time ago I had stand up about this here in the Forums. It's not the costumers fault that DTG can't handle to provide an accurate way for DLC and profile transfer between iteration. I really hope that DTG will get rid off these completely unnecessary processes for DLC and profile transfer with TSW5. I guess the reason to make the paid upgrade attractive/reasonable to most players is to provide these DLCs attached with it. However, I also question that. If they would detach the DLCs from the upgrade and therefore the price for the upgrade would be less, I guess way less people would complain about the update. This would especially be good for those, who ain't have a single interest in any of the DLCs the upgrade comes with. (For example, ECML, Vorarlberg, Antelope Valley).
because dtg is money hungry so we need to buy a "new" game every year with the "new" features promised in the previous iteration e.g. suspension improvements
If they are so "money hungry", how come the WSR Upgrade which includes a new timetable and scenery was for free? Why will the new SKA timetable be for free? Why was the Meißen branch added to DRA for free? Seems like the world is more complex than you try to show here.
The purchase of a new TSW every year, given the final cost (and I speak on a personal level) does not affect my financial life in the slightest. If this expense causes economic disruption to some individuals, the socio-economic situation of this type of individuals was already tragically and irreparably compromised previously for various reasons. Furthermore, I remember that the TSW (or any other video game) is not an imposed tax, but a free choice (privilege of democracy).
whether individuals can or can’t here isn’t the discussion/issue people are stating, it’s whether they should be. there is also the issue of wanting to see certain bug fixes of which won’t be backdated, so if a fix you are looking for does materialise then you have to pay up or you won’t get it.
Guess it's worth pointing out yet again that the annual release schedule being ranted about doesn't actually exist. TSW4 was the first paid annual release, and given that we're still waiting eight months later for features used to sell it, hopefully it's the last.
Yeah, given it's now May and we're yet to see the new suspension system be properly rolled out, I have my doubts TSW5 would happen this year. The amount people talk about it as though its announcement is just a formality almost makes it seem like they want it to happen.
A lot of children play this game, and games in general, 100 bucks (game + DLC) could be months of saved cash...
A lot of children play this game? Where did you notice this? I think some kids might play this game but I think a lot of kids will find simulator games boring but looking at the price of games in general and the yearly releases of "new versions" TSW is a bargain for kids. 3 routes for the price of 2. Another good reason to have TSW 5. Think of the children who can buy more stuff when it's bundled at a cheaper price But really! If many kids play this game being able to walk the train tracks is not setting a good example
i started TSW at 16, if any of them are anything like myself back then, then bundles or anything more than standard editions are something kids avoid, they are higher priced than buying a single thing, when money is tight you will go with what is available to your cash and the fastest way to get their, you may get more with bundles but you would need more cash and getting more cash is the problem so you go with the other option, saving is usually out of the question, they spend as soon as the cash is given, especially when it’s giving is a rarity at such prices. Not many kids will save for something when they could get something else (especially when it’s very similar in this case) right now.
As a kid I would have done my research and noticed this game is not in my price range. I highly doubt kids can keep up with this game even without "new versions". TSW also does not look like it is marketed to children
I don't see any new feature that would justify TSW6, apart for full working ebula, but this can come on actual version whit update
oh but there going to be a feature that highly requested on survey that be limited to 3 routes like cake finding tool. you go around the routes finding peace of cake to make one big cake lol. and it built as new core feature so that mean they have to release tsw6.
I think dtg should not be churning out new routes with the same old locos and should concentrate on fixing the older routes and the newer routes with problems and maybe do some remasters on some routes.
And people immedeatly will start to say that TSW got boring, because there are no new DLCs on the horizon. See the german community after the Season of Reveals. Hardly anthing new on the german side. So a lot of people expressed their disappointment. If you do one thing, the community want you to do the other thing. If you do the other thing, that's also the wrong thing to do.
My Betamax player won't play Blu-ray discs. I slip them into the slot, it makes some horrible noises and then nothing happens. Worse still, when I press eject, it doesn't come out, so I have to buy the disc all over again, which is getting expensive. Why oh why hasn't Sony updated it?
Yeah, that'll go down well I'm sure. There's already enough complaints about lack of content in certain areas, US routes (particularly where freight is concerned) being one of them. If they stopped making new DLC, everyone would complain that they're getting nothing new (and to those who want to deny that, I can guarantee it'll happen)
