This last weekend I bought a brand new PS5. It was really worth it! Quite a difference from the PS4 - I had before - on everything! Graphics and visual quality, details, length of trains, more visual distance, more AI traffic and great performance! I am really happy about it! Really recommends, to the ones that have the PS4, and of course if you can do it, from the money point of view! Prices are more affordable now.
How do you find it performs around Doncaster on the ECML please? Specifically 1.5 miles south of Doncaster - the bit where it often crashed on PS4 in either direction. Got any good in game screenshots to share yet please?
I have no crashes at all!. It performs very well! No problem at all. I have noticed just one or two very little stutters there, but nothing else. Even considering you have more AI trains and static ones on PS5. Plus much more detailed environment, and longer views of the track ahead. I have tested also the Russenheim - Salzburg route, about arriving to Salzburg HBF. There on PS4 I had always lot of "blue screens" errors = crashes - but now everything flows smoothly! Same for Munich HBF area. Furthermore for example Sherman Hill, with US trains being much more longer than PS4. I run a tank one, with 4 locomotives at the front, and 2 more at the back, and lot of freight cars. Let me find some pictures about it
If you’re gonna invest in a Ps5 maybe don’t just do for TSW. Are there any other games you want that are exclusive to Ps5?
Here you have: First: notice the background mountains on Salzburg route at the back. The trees. The quality of the image also. You can have it as 4K. In this case I selected HD, as does not have a 4K TV yet. The difference on details are hughe!
In my case, I also plays "Gran Turismo", and other car racing games. There the graphics and sounds are also better. But for TSW4, the difference is really big, comparing with PS4! .
Other pictures on TSW4: Sherman Hill The refinery is much more detailed than on PS4. Same for other details of the route. But mainly you can drive much longer trains.
I've had a PS5 for about a year and a half now, and it's fantastic, I love it. But one thing I don't understand though (and I admit it's because I'm not remotely technically minded), but why does TSW4 take several minutes to load up but other games are virtually instantaneous.
Ahh... yes. That is a hughe difference too! I remember to measure the full loading time on PS4 , and it was almost 4 minutes. DTG made some improvements later to the game, and reduced around 20 seconds. But now on PS5 it is less than a minute! I have lot of routes! Even copying the pictures I take on the sim, on PS4 to an USB memory, took very long time! Now it is much faster. I am talking about 500 pictures.
Yes... I duly understand. Do you usually plays other games / simulators? You have them on PC? Or you only likes TSW?
One thing I forgot to mention is, which is a great difference with PS4 - the PS5 controller... is "alive"!" It has lights, sounds and vibration, according of what you are doing in the simulator - or other games. Even you have specific sounds, like "SIFA", etc, it comes from it. The color of the signal you have ahead , it is displayed there too.
Welcome to the club! TSW on PS5 is like a whole new game in my opinion. I got mine about 1,5 Years ago and I would not want to look back.
It has to do with the amount of DLC installed. Same for me on the load time. But when I had TSW4 in early access it loaded quickly.
Another feature you have on PS5, is the "volumetric light effect" When there are some reduced light conditions - like fog, night, etc - the lights of the locomotive are shown with 3D effect. There you have an example. In the case of the DB 101, it only works for the middle upper light. On the Vectron all 3 lights it have the effect. Older locomotives does not have it.
Thanks! Yes, as mentioned, after seeing the streaming made by DTG, and other sources -where I noticed all the differences - comparing with PS4-, I decided to upgrade to PS5. Regards
Another good thing about being on Ps5 is that I no long have to worry about the layers I may or may not get because of memory issues
I just play TSW nowadays really. I have an inexpensive gaming PC with Xplane on it, but it struggles a lot.
I did the same the other month and was very happy with layers on tsw3. Tsw4 coming out made me laugh... 10months later still nothing what the promised with suspension etc. But.... Robocop Terminator Next year gta 6 in fall is when tsw6 comes out. So crack on with other games till tsw5 comes out. All the promised features will be in 5 and then the bugs in for 4 will be a paywall for 5. But that robocop is awesome...
Stellar Blade TT Ride on the edge 3 - not exclusive Resident Evil 4 remake + vr GT7 vr The stuff I currently play.
I miss Flight Simulator! It was the first ones I have used. But since my computer broke down, and the new more power PS models, it is OK for me for entertainment!
One important issue about my purchase of the PS5, it is I bought the "digital" version, with 1TB memory. I mean, no DVD hardware. As all the games I play, - and their add-ons - can be downloaded from the PS store, no need for discs. Even the advantage of if you change the hardware -as I did-, it is easy to download everything again without any problem. In my case, as I have most of the routes and locomotives add-ons, are on an external hard disc - connected to the PS - you have instant access to them, in the new hardware.
As far as I can tell, the differences between the PS5s available to purchase is really just disk drive or not, and then number of controllers. Both the white packaging and black packaged versions seem to be the same otherwise.
The Ps5 is very quiet, unless you’re in a hot room the loudest noise you’re gonna get from it is the disk spinning but even then it slows down and becomes quiet too. If I understand what you’re talking about in reference to coil whine then for me it’s definitely there, but it’s also quite quiet, after a short while you don’t even notice it
The og Ps5 comes with about 800gb, about 600gb is usable. The newer Ps5 slim comes with 1tb, you can choose whether you want a console with a disk slot or not. There are accessories you can buy separately that increase storage
Of my 650gb of usable capacity, I have TSW4 with 33 dlc installed plus a further 12 other games, 20gb of media, 20gb save games, and I still have 60gb of spare capacity. The PS5 has plenty of capacity out of the box. Memory upgrades are available, but aren't really needed.
Just buy an M2 SSD and install it. It's very easy to install. I think I already bought my expansion 2 months after buying my PS5. A lot of games are becoming ridiculously large. If you only play TSW you won't need one but if you want to collect a few games without having to delete games and redownload them every time you want to play a game you will need one.
Thank you. I just play TSW, and there is more than enough space on my PS4 500GB. Presumably I can upgrade the storage later if needs be rather than straight away?
If you play only TSW you don't need an upgrade anytime soon The longer you can do without expanding your storage the cheaper the storage becomes when you would finally need some.
What antwerpcentral already stated: If you restrict your PS5 to TSW only, you'll be fine without storage expansion. You can upgrade later. Column F has the size of every DLC. -----> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UKHp810bCFdbXWhhmnYzyISBja6wiEQ4tBs8h2DyFJM/edit#gid=0 BTW: You can't compare the TSW size occupied on PS4 with the PS5 version. PS4 version is totally stripped down for performance reasons.
No, I already had the external disc on PS4, where most of the DLC were stored. In order to provide more free space for the console itself, to do the job better, having more space. So now with PS5, I just connected the external disc on PS5, and that allows me to have all the DLCs I had purchased, without the need of download again - which takes some time - from the PS Store.
Yeah congradulations!!!!! I hope you like buying controllers because I can see that in your future. PS5 controllers are not good and you will end up with button problems or stick drift, I really hope you don't, but you will, if you have a pad that works don't sell it for any money. Ps3 controllers you could hop off the wall and they would still work. Sony even know about the stick drift problem and they brought out a more expensive pad you can replace the sticks on rather than fix the problem with the ordinary pads.
I only use PS5 to play TSW, I have other games, but have no time neither the focus to play to them as they would require. TSW allows me to run a full route for the 30’; 40’ or 60’ I may have, which is great. I was really surprised about the improvement from PS4 to PS5 for TSW. So I subscribe, if you can afford it, go for it!
Yeah, it is hit and miss with PS5 controllers. I bought the PS5 new at launch and I had to return a controller a month after buying the console with R2 button issues. I now have stick drift on the other controller left pad, which is ok for TSW until you try menus or external view. Dont be surprised if they break.
I caved and bought it too. Do we need to transfer the data from the PS4, or can we just start it again? Also, does anyone else find it seems to wobble a bit in horizontal orientation? Because kind of 2 corners (Back and front right) are supported by those little feet you add, and the back left is touching the table, but the forward left just seems to be midair?
You don’t have to transfer your data but it’ll give you the option (for TSW you have to start from scratch though). My Ps5 doesn't wobble did you get the slim? I’m on the original so I’m not sure what that one is like to use.
Yeah, I got the slim without Disk Drive. As far as I can tell, no support for the front right corner. Not a problem really - it was only when I was plugging in the control charger. I have my add ons on my profile and the base tsw4 game on a family member's profile, so now just got to figure out how to get them both on the same console
You can connect the PS4 and PS5 together to copy profile data across, do this first as it wipes the PS5 as part of the process, it will ask you to sign in again on all profiles you use. As you are game sharing with a family member, whichever account was the 'primary' profile on the PS4 will probably need to be set as primary on PS5 also. Note that the PS5 version of TSW4 is completely seperate to the PS4 version so you will need to download the game and all it's add-ons again. There is also no way to transfer in game progress between the PS4 and PS5 versions, but the upgraded visuals and performance are definitly worth that inconvenience. Nearly forgot the most important piece of advice for any new PS5 owner, play Astro's Playroom, I don't know if it still comes pre-installed but if not it's a free download.
Thanks for the tip - I'll check out that - it came pre-installed but wasn't sure what it was so hadn't opened it. Just waiting on these downloads to complete - can't imagine how long the transfer would take for someone with more downloads - I only have ~20 of them.
