There's more then enough routes to have the P42 be added to the game let alone its been long enough with out it to begin with and it wouldn't even have to be Amtrak since there's other companies that run the P42 and if the P42 does get added it opens up a whole lot more places and routes and scenarios. But that's just me since it would be nice seeing it finally in the game once and for all.

While I don't disagree with your suggestion (although I'd like to note that Amtrak is the only operator of P42's), this has been suggested several times over the years. While we have routes that the P42 serves IRL, they are not long enough to really utilize them correctly and make it worth the development time.

I've added a list of the routes below where you'd see variations of the Genesis-series, and color-coded them to how appropriate it would be to see DLC developed for it (red = nope, orange = maybe, green = yes).

Long Island Railroad (Both Versions): Amtrak P32's would be seen around NY Penn and Sunnyside laying over between Empire Service and Lake Shore Limited runs. A few AI trains is not worth the development time.

Antelope Valley Line: Amtrak P42's would be seen around LAUPT for Coast Starlight, Southwest Chief, Sunset Limited, Texas Eagle, and subs for Surfliner services. Again, pretty much AI only here.

Boston - Providence: The Boston leg of the Lake Shore Limited runs out of South Station with one departure and one arrival day, using a very short segment of the NEC portrayed. There are also some hospital moves over the Grand Junction Branch, but this isn't modeled. Occasionally you'll get a P42-led re-route or sub for when power goes down, but these are far from the norm.

Horseshoe Curve: You get a short segment of the Pennsylvanian, and with the passenger speeds of the route you blink and you miss it.

Harlem Line: Metro-North P32's would be an excellent choice for this. It would add an excellent mix of AI and service variety, as they are used for direct trains on all three East of Hudson lines terminating in GCT. While the trip would be short, it would be no worse than EMU express service to North White Plains.

Cajon Pass: Like Horseshoe, you get a short segment of the Southwest Chief, which again, blink and it's gone at passenger speeds.

Oakville Subdivision: Amtrak (Maple Leaf) and VIA both use P42's here, but you run into the same issue as Boston - Providence; there's too little running potential to make good use of them, they'd be mostly AI route-filler.

Sand Patch: Short section of Capitol Limited; see Cajon and Horseshoe.

Peninsula Corridor: The Coast Starlight stops at San Jose, not worth it for a dedicated DLC.

New York to Trenton: Same as Boston and LIRR; occasional re-routes or power outage subs, along with Empire Service P32s in NY.

There are a few ways I do see them getting in-game...

    • A P42 Long Distance Pack: Includes a selection of Superliners, Viewliners, and Amfleet II's and is bundled with one or two scenarios for each of the orange-highlighted routes (Cajon, Sand Patch, and Horseshoe). If the devs are real nice you might get AI traffic added to the red-highlighted routes.

    • Metro-North P32AC-DM Shoreliner Pack: Fills out the Harlem Line with one of the last major pieces of the Metro-North roster. Includes a set of MTA Shoreliner III's and IV's, as well as P32's in the current Metro-North scheme, possibly the new heritage units.

    • A dedicated intercity route gets developed; think portions of the Hudson Line, the Hartford Line, some of the midwest services, some Florida services, etc.
In summary, the potential is there, but not enough (at the moment) for production and release to be worth the development time and costs

The Pennsylvanian is timetabled for about 1hr between Altoona and Johnstown, the Southwest Chief is timetabled for 2hrs between Barstow and San Bernardino with a stop in Victorville, I wouldn't call that a "Blink and you miss it" kind of service.

Plus I think people would prefer to grind up Cajon Pass at passenger track speeds than slog up it under max freight speed to experience the route.

The only downside is neither route is built to handle passengers there, as none spawn on the platforms, but with how passengers are currently designed, you'll have people standing there all day for a 2 time a day train.

True. I did emulate The Pennsylvanian in free roam with a F40 and some Amfleets once and that was very enjoyable. I should do the same on Cajon at some point now that I think about it.
