Make sure the cab is activated using the switch on the back. You'll know it's on when the cab lights turn on. Then you set the headlight switch to auto. Then you go to the mfd on your right, press 5 i believe, enter, then it'll show you a picture of the train with buttons to turn on lights on each end. Check what cab you are in, press the corresponding button twice and then press enter. And turn on headlight switch. The tutorial also goes over it

Recommend completing the 187 tutorial again as it explains about the headlights - should be easy to understand after a while.

Is there a way to turn off the lights if you activated them on the wrong end of the loco? (Preferably from within the mfd menu, not by deactivating the cab) I've only managed to choose between headlights and taillights if I select a loco side.

No worries, I recently started with the 187 again and had the exact same problems with the headlights! :D

I don't understand how you can stand the sound of the 187. I've tried it a couple of times and had to stop after a few minutes because it's really unpleasant. And I understand even less how the developers could create such an aberration and release it thinking they had done a good job.

Eventually some people get used to it after hearing it for a while. I kind of just ignore it cuz nothing I can do about it lol. Can always mute the game too

I've never heard or seen a 187 in real life, so I can't compare - while this doesn't bother me, of course I'd want the sounds to be realistic as possible. I like the 187 as it's a nice freight alternative to the likes of the ubiquitous 185 in TSW - but that's just me.

The headlights seemed pretty bright for me. Are you turning them on properly?

I agree..the ungodly shrieking noise it makes drowns out all other sounds and it's not worth playing. It's a shame because it's a decent loco otherwise. What was DTG thinking when they released it with that atrocious noise and why hasn't it been fixed?

Skyhook made the 187 but it’s still a shame that DTG allowed the release in first place

Don't worry guys, I know a way to fix the sounds manually...
    STEP 1:

    STEP 2:
    upload_2023-4-11_2-36-30.png

This is sarcasm. I'm not sure how they managed to release a patch that makes the sounds even worse, but I have to congratulate DTG and Skyhook for breaking a new record. The Train Simulator version is not amazing but at least it isn't undriveable like this.

I think the sound is overdone in TSW. But of course, it is a subjective perception.

Even as an AI is it terrible, seeing the 187 in the opposite direction as an AI in RSN made me permanently delete that thing from my Steam library.

What are you on about? Did you see the thread you're posting in? This is for the 187 which has been out for a long time and yet is still absolutely terrible quality.

Realised that probably came off snippier than I intended as well, apologies.

Fingers crossed the recent communication from Skyhook is a good sign, just won't hold out hope until results come through.

So, a weird thing happened with me today, I was playing TSW4 after a long time, I was driving this loco on Tharandter Rampe: Dresden.

And to my surprise, the sound was not at all harsh :-

I was so happy thinking that they finally fixed the sound.

Then after some time, in the same scenario, I failed to acknowledge a double yellow aspect, as a result the train came to a complete stop and after I started it again, there, that harsh soul crushing sound was back again -

It felt so better before, in clip 1, the sound in clip 2 is so harsh that I dont even feel like switching to external cameras, its so harsh and absurdly loud that your neighbors will come up to check on you if they happen to hear it.

On a serious note, I dont know why the sound is not harsh in CLIP 1, maybe the audio just didn't kick in and once the train came to a halt, there was a reset and so after the train started again, that harsh audio kicked in, maybe a expert can comment on technicalities.

All that being said, I would prefer the sound in clip 1 for all the playthroughs, even if it is a glitch or something because the CLIP 2 sound is just way harsh.

It’s just sad that DTG is happy releasing subpar cr*p like the 187 and 204, both of which have potential if the sound (187) and physics (204) get fixed. But Dovetail just leaves them to rot.

Don't know about 204, because I have never played with it.

But the 187, it was one of those locos which I never tried, sole reason being that sound and another was the lights. After having played with most of the German locos, I wanted something fresh, so I went back to 187 and to be honest, it didn't seem bad when it comes to the overall experience, for a PZB-U engine, it sure does have good responsive braking and nice AFB which takes into account the gradients as well as long as they are less than 1.5%.

But sound is the main culprit, I dont know how testers even passed it out of QC, it just seems like a harsh, torturous loop. As seen in my clip 1, I would much rather prefer that sound.

Yes, I know people keep ranting about responsibility being in SKYHOOK's or DTG's court, but at the end the game belongs to DTG, right ? So, yes people will look at DTG for fixes.

This is a total mess. in clip 1 the traction sounds are entirely missing, which happens in certain cases. What you hear are the running sounds. Clip 2 has the traction sounds, but i also god ear damage by switching to external cam.

Beside that all switches have no sound, gauges still show the wrong pressures etc.

Cmon, just scrap this loco, remove it from steam and clear the way for somebody which is actually interested in releasing a solid product...(currently the only use of the 187 is as addition for a.i traffic, but hey since TSW 4 and the substitution mess it never showed up ...)

I removed it from my library just because of this, AI trains with the screaming 187 made me cringe, now I have buzzing 185s for AIs instead..

Yup, that's what I felt too, that the sound just didn't kick in when it comes to CLIP 1.

I dont know much about gauges showing wrong pressure, maybe I am just not a technically sensitive person and apart from sound, the loco seems good to me.

Now, to be honest it is not at all a polished product, it should've never passed the QC. But here's what scares me, maybe DTG will fix this loco, they will bring an improved, complex version of it just like they are doing with BR101 and then they will sell this new BR187 improved version as a DLC, that will be the worst case scenario :|

The expert 101 isn't made by dtg. It's made by tsg. It makes sense to ask money for it because making a train study level is a ton of work

Sure, they are right to ask for the money, if they first refund me this in the link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/..._DB_BR_101_Loco_AddOn__TSW2__TSW3_compatible/

I know TSG products and they don't seem to me to be almost-expert or beginner++ :)

The cab-car must be paid, but the 101, for those who already have it, should be scaled. To me this new way of doing the market, I change the team rosters and I have a new game, FIFA style, it's a bit sad.

Exactly, because charging for improvements and fixes doesn't seem justifiable.

Charging for the new improved realistic version of a loco will render the older version kind of useless and non-desirable, but I bet some people will still justify it by saying that the older version is for people who want simplicity and the newer version is for experts! I dont think that's how a simulator game should work.

We should just have one base version of loco in the game and if people are really asking for more complexity, then why not give options for tweaking those parameters in SETTINGS MENU for every engine, wherein the user would have multiple options to chose from like traction effort, advanced physics, braking etc. That way the old users will not be alienated in the process.

The 187 is the only DLC I regret buying. I knew it was supposed to sound bad but I really underestimated how bad it was. Now it's not even installed because I don't want to hear it as AI. Unfortunately I missed my chance to get a refund. I don't understand why it is still this way even after it has been patched to address the problem. I'm also not sure why the headlight positioning has not been fixed when the 193 had a similar issue that was fixed just after release. Most people seem to be disappointed with the 187, so why even continue to sell it in its current state, just to most likely create yet another unsatisfied customer?

As for the 101, since it already works well I see its upcoming release as more of an optional improvement, not so much as a fix. Any fixes to the 187 should not be paid, although I seriously doubt the 187 will ever be changed from what we have now.

There are other dlc and games that also sell content that are just as bad or worse but they haven't been removed so there's that. Just because many people don't like it doesn't mean it gets removed

That is undeniably true. The difference to me is that DTG depends on DLC sales to keep moving TSW forward. This obviously isn't a one-off game where the publisher doesn't care if you buy another game from them or not, as long as they get your money at least once. TSW also is not based on something like for instance American football where the popularity of the subject matter can carry a bad video game. I'm sure the peak sales of the 187 are well past by now, so why keep it available only for the occasional buyer who will most likely just be disappointed, and possibly even form a poor overall impression of your franchise because of it?

The fact that DTG has an effective monopoly on rail simulator games means they can release mediocre content and not have to worry about getting punished for it when players opt to buy from a different brand. After all there is no other company out there making a comprehensive train simulator for PC or consoles.

It’s also the 2020’s business climate where many companies feel it’s okay to cheap out on quality and consistency and LOVE off customers who pay good money for their products so long as investors can max out their take. Of course a business isn’t a charity, however I’m old enough to remember when companies were a lot more responsive to customer demand and feedback and took pride in releasing a quality product.

There are other game franchises with problems, e.g. Cyberpunk 2077, but DTG is uniquely and almost comically bad when it comes to regularly releasing glitchy and subpar products and then not fixing them. And playing TSW/TSC costs a lot more than playing a game like Cyberpunk 2077.

I’m a hopeless train nerd so I need by train sim fix but I can’t imagine someone who’s not a hardcore rail enthusiast spending hundreds of €$£ a year on the TSW franchise.

The only improvement it needs is the multi-system pantographs, and the last-mile diesel engine. That's all that's needed, and it's perfect.
