Other simulators like Farming Simulator already did iterate over all their gear and replaced sounds with sound profiles captured from real live vehicles in different situations. This would fix many of the sound issue people have with the train models and also improve the realism of the sound by like100%.

Erm, they do. All train sounds come from the real thing. They literally set up sessions specifically to record sounds.

Most trains are recorded from the real thing. It all depends on the physics and mixing. If the physics is wrong, sounds are wrong.

Sometimes there is no train to record. Could be from lack of train, lack of ability to run it at full speed or no train available. Running a schedule is more important than renting out a whole train to record it which interferes with normal operation if they want to run it at top speed. So they use what they have.

While I do agree with you, on all points to a degree, if they "DTG" would take the extra step to work out a deal if you will, to get the recordings and not disrupt train service or spend money to rent a train. I try to do as much research on many different aspects when it comes to trains, and I come across many British railfan videos, some I kinda watch and others I just scrub through, but I came across this one here and watched it through, It would be nice to know he gained access to just about everywhere and the people in "charge" at times it was a bit odd in how he recorded the video but sometimes you need to be creative and that he is. Could DTG not do what this single guy did, then again now that I think of it is he part of the news media?

rent a train ? They are not publicly available for use on mainlines by private individuals :D making a game is not an exception :D

Edit: it’s up to the companies that operate them if they let them use them under their control of the operations, then it’s what can DTG get with that, small movements or no movements isn’t going to get the exact sound, and companies have more things to do than have every and any other game company what comes knocking be given extensive private trips out without extremely high costs especially.

I was replying to the post I quoted "#3", I was not trying to imply a private individual rent a train like the Class 700, That is Silly! But on a side note, one can pay to learn to drive a train. Oh yeah, this can be done in Australia also.
But more on the lines of say DTG would pay a rental fee to do what they needed to. And yes I do agree it is up to each company to say who, what, where, when, why a company like DTG or Acme Gaming can come in and record the train running sounds as well as in-cab sounds. The reason I linked to a video showing a YouTuber getting access to the entire train mostly as well as talking with the people in charge so to speak. How did he? If he can do what he did, DTG could not work out such a deal? Plenty of questions, plenty of what-ifs, plenty more of the 5 W's. And no real answers.

He was invited to join a press preview of a new train coming into service. He didn’t work out any special deal for himself directly with the train operating company. He was one of many people on that service and didn’t gain anywhere near the kind of access DTG would need to record the sounds they would need to recreate that train in the game. DTG do arrange access to some trains for a recording session but they couldn’t just pick any train they desire and automatically be able to get the kind of access they need.

DTG: Hello Mr train operator, can I please stick a number of microphones inside and outside of your train for my game

TOC: what if one falls off, hits a person/another train/a piece of lineside equipment ???

DTG: how about we hire a spare train on within a yard or none passenger area

TOC: spare train, what's that then, and spare driver/guard/chaperones sure we have all these sat about

DTG: Lets arrange something very formal when it fits in with you and your business

TOC: sorry your arranged train has been put into service today due to xxxxx

    it's not easy folks.

But they can do it when they can, so this suggestion is pointless.

Okay, that makes sense, if he got the invite, I may have missed that in the video, at one point he ends up in the cab talking with the engineer, I was like "What" "How" is he with the press? He must be well known then in that area, to get the invite. And of course, it's not just let's have a troll and flip a coin and IF IT'S heads we take ummm this train okay, okay thanks see ya.

exactly, it can be done, DTG even shows it being done with a steam train.

Dtg can't do it for every single train. That's only because the operators gave dtg permission and made time for them. Not every operator will say yes. Mta and freight doesn't allow it. There are many other trains where they just said no like the 700 and the 801. Dtg couldn't just pop up and be like I'm gonna steal this train for a full day. Just because one train gets it doesn't mean dtg gets the permission to do it for all trains

there is the odd train where you can pay to drive yes I have heard of that one with a class 143 before, they are Limited to barely any trains in comparison to the number of them in reality and that event doesn’t mean you have any such permission to record.

the speed will also be limited and any such extras are limited for recording purposes.

you can’t just rent trains, more chance of getting to have a look than renting I would say, it would be another individual ask which they I would bet say we can’t 99%+ of the time.

you may have found one instance of access to a train, dovetail has had many instances, that doesn’t solve any issue for the other trains.

Kind of interested though how outfits like AP manage to obtain their recordings?

For uk trains yea. But I've heard they also reuse sounds at least according to yawwie, who has done a bunch of reviews on ap content.

Again, I never said that DTG shows up at the train yard/depot tosses a coin points to a few trains, and says Heads, we will take that one or this one.
It's a given they need to, must have an appointment, it all has to be arranged. As to why they can't do it for every train, really why not, how did they get the train interior and exterior photographed, a time and day had to have been set, and everything arranged, heck look at post #9 by Blacknred81 DTG came to the US to do the EMD F125 metro in CA, If they can set that up coming across the pond. Why not others?
Everything can be worked out with enough time and effort and maybe some Duckets to help facilitate the time needed to get recordings.
I was merely pointing out that if I/you/anyone would like to take time to pay to learn to drive, or knows how to drive a train as in the links I posted, even if it's for A mile. If that can be, why can't DTG make all the arrangements? And set up an appointment, to do what they need to.

Some of the better-sounding mods to make some trains sound better that I have installed are from a Modder "who is not paid to make them" on TSC Mod pages. So It can be done, the will needs to be there, and the effort and time needs to be made to do so.

As has been repeatedly said on many different threads on the forum, sound recording trips are not as simple as book them, being able to ride a certain train for a mile (distance irrelevant regardless) is no permission for sound recordings, that would be a separate agreement, no guarantee they would agree.

and it’s very few trains that offer that, I’m willing to bet with probably good odds non in the game currently and probably similarly good odds on the chances they ain’t coming anytime soon.

I've said this somewhere already but I'll say it again.

My job is to clean trains, I work at a station.

Sometimes, the train I need goes to the depot, and will stay there. I can only clean that train if depot staff allow me to. That train will probably go back into service the following morning, but I haven't been able to do my job on it.

A couple of weeks ago, for example, I was on my own (a rare case, although I had people helping throughout the shift) for 4 nights. Every single train that went to and stayed at the depot wasn't cleaned, and they went back into service messy.

If I can only clean a train when I'm allowed to, which is my job, just imagine how hard it is to set up a session to record sounds. It ain't easy.

I'm not saying they shouldn't bother with sounds, but it isn't as simple as find a train and record the sounds as it moves.

Metrolink made space in their schedule and was very welcoming. From what i've read metrolink created an entire nonrevenue service just for dtg to record sounds. But that's not always possible with every single operator. Just because it works for one doesn't mean it works for everything. Lirr 2.0 (can't record sounds as ordered by mta), freight (zero operators allow dtg to record sounds), vorarlberg (obb didn't say yes to a recording session). Even tsg is unable to get certain sounds sometimes. Sound recording trips are also useless if dtg can't get the full range of sounds at various speeds. What if some trains don't exist at all (how can they record sounds?). In an ideal world, sound recordings should be done for every single nook and cranny and speed, but in reality, it's much harder than that.

Yes, that statement has been made I read it, saw it, it's not easy, it's near impossible or is not possible, I'm sure it is not as easy as booking it and going. But, every time the words "I can't, we can't, they can't, It can't be ___" is a defeatist attitude and mindset when stated one is defeating its self, oneself, themselves. DTG has been at this How many years now, and no inroads have been made, no contacts have been made, and no relationships have been made, Matt of DTG and others helped raise funds with "Special Effect's 'GameBlast" I give them BIG props for doing this "being a parent of a special needs child" But I would hope this would help show that DTG and its staff are doing good things.

[ I'm not saying to use that as leverage ] But does show they are community-focused, and over time it would have opened some other doors. While most trains in TSW are UK & German, with a couple in other areas. I would not be surprised if that is why it's been a bit more easy to get UK and German-based routes and trains, It all comes down to politics and who they know and or get to know.

And without getting into the weeds or saying much more, I will leave it at, YES I KNOW HOW POLITICS CAN GET. I have seen & heard enough that I have zero desire to jump in that pile of cow patties.

That I can buy for a dollar, CA & Metrolink need all the good PR they can get, as well as get paying customers to use and ride their rail service, they are hurting and funds are not coming into that state, in fact, they are leaving. What makes things worse is the $20.00 hour minimum wage, mandatory! Apologies for the off-topic statements, NY, well that is just another field of Cow Patties, and then some, I truly am surprised DTG even got what they did for LIRR v2, considering what is happening there and how Manhattan, NYC is managed, I have "1st & 2nd hand accounts" of what is happening, for safety and security reasons that is all I will say, but I also personally know people that still work in NYC & the five boroughs and I'm told they are staying because they are making money, I take them at their word. A couple of them are Polish-born immigrants who built a business over many years.

And I do agree with you on the issue of trains no longer being around, for those, there is no real sound to record, The US freight trains, well I can understand why they may not mainly due to the derailments of major concern in the midwest, in the past few years. And, if that is the case with "Vorarlberg ÖBB" I'm pretty surprised, and yet not really for reason I would not want to get into.
Yes, I do understand that unless they can not get all the bells and whistles recorded, in a way you could say it's a useless trip, but, I would take whatever I could get and run with it, and find a way to work out the rest of the sounds I could not get. I take what is stated on the forums as they are, lacking any proof, other than what is stated, that is all I can go by, again DTG needs to and any other game Developer needs to find ways to make more and better inroads with the people that matter. Again it's all politics, and when I see the modding community create better sounds [how I have no clue] for many of the trains, and or a Youtuber getting invited to show a new train, it is publicity they wanted, but again I wonder how did one guy get on the radar of the people running a rail service, how well is he known there. Then again how is DTG looked upon & thought of?

And yet a company that has been around for how many years now, I have TSW1,2,3,4 and TSC well some of it and I see people talking about how much better things sound in TSC as well as how much better the physics development is, yet TSW is lacking, how is that it's the same company. Yes it can get difficult, nothing in life is worth getting and having as well as making, if a bit of hard work is not put in. Just look at the "Dtg Have Abandoned Steam In Tsw" and yet they keep promoting Steam while it still needs work, but that is another thread and story not for here. Again where there is a will there is a way, is it easy NO, could it be done, Unknown at this time, the info given is "we can't" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They are using authenic sounds already but it depends on the loco where sounds are not recorded from the real counterpart.

In fact it is one of the most debated topics with TSW and in this forum.

The problem seems to be to get the green light from the operator to obtain recordings.

In fact there is already an elaborate discussion in the Discussion Forum going on about whether they even should make trains if DTG can't obtain recordings. I recommend everyone to continue the discussion there and not create separate second audio debate in the suggestion forum based on a somehow incorrect placed assumption of OP.

It most certainly is not, it’s called reality, saying something isn’t simple is not given up, it’s called saying it as it is, if they need permission and request it and get told no, you can’t keep asking constantly, that would be harassment and would sour potential future changes.

it’s no until it’s yes, they’ve done what they can once they’ve requested it, reality is it ain’t happening at that point.

A relationship takes two parties, and if one isn't willing, that's it, until they are. Assertions that anything can magically happen if you want it badly enough, or "Do, or do not. There is no try", sound good in motivational and business seminars, but don't necessarily apply to reality. In fact, not taking "no" for an answer can get you arrested in some situations.
