While down south we were getting new 319s and already had 455s/313s/315s/317s and previously 508s you guys up north were getting Pacers. It's a scandal really, but you guys seem to be happy bouncing around on them 30 years later. Hell, even the 205s/207s/VEPs/EPBs/117s/101s were a step above Pacers. And now you get the cast-off 319s. Shocking. Must be a kind of Stockholm syndrome to love Pacers so much.

At the time on many secondary lines it was either a pacer or nothing.

The Conservative government at the time demanded cheap to run trains or lines would be shut completely so the pacers were the best thing they could come up with at the time,
They should of been got rid of atleast 10/15 years ago.
Many northern towns don't vote conservative so they thought screw them there votes don't matter anyway..

I think that's how they were sold to the passengers: "You should be grateful that you have any trains" which was terrible. This is why I just don't get the love for them. You should have got more Sprinters to run on those routes. At least they had four axles per vehicle.

I think the love for them is possibly because the end is in sight for them and as a one-off journey now and again is different to anything else on the railway today.

For those travelling on them day in day out they are a pain in the arse and they will be glad to see the back of them..
Preferably on fire or made into razor blades.

I wonder if any preserved/heritage railways will think about acquiring one. Not the sort of thing that you'd think would attract much interest* but may be handy for tootling about in. And probably relatively easy to maintain.

    * However judging by this thread they certainly have a following.

The NRM have already claimed the pioneer 001,
I can see a couple of heritage lines taking a few being cheap to run and maintain plus there will be plenty of spares knocking about soon.

Whether or not they're total crap or not (not in UK, but it sounds like they are), but they're still unique and ultimately historic trains so that's not a reason not to want them in the game. Just because they're uncomfortable in real life doesn't mean you would be uncomfortable in a chair driving one on a sim. What's the problem?

Without realistic cab sway implemented having a pacer at the moment wouldn't make sense anyway.

You can bet your life we won’t get half decent cab sway.

It's reason enough for me not to want them in the game if it diverts resource and development of better traction or different routes for the game (which it naturally would). Others are entitled to a different opinion. Also, as has been said above, for them to have any resemblance to reality, cab sway would be mandatory.

Armstrong powerhouse did a pretty decent job with their add-on for TS (the swaying and bouncing around was quite fun on one scenario from Carlisle to Settle), hopefully there'll be someway they can replicate that on TSW?

Ah the UK with such weird waggons, cheap and cheerful is the UK and it's run on a shoe string, if this train came to TSW, that means other trains should also come to TSW. Slamdoors I vote for.

So we just got this in ts2020, havnt tried it yet but will do at some point, id too like to see this in tsw.

My liking of it is quite simple. Days out as a kid with the family were often between first gen remnants and these.
I was never happy to see one arriving at the start of the day but i did end up loving the noise and bone shaking ride.

Always makes me smile seeing them around still now and knowing i may have been on those very units as a kid all those years ago.

There are things i dont like at all but i understand other people liking them for a variety of reasons i cant myself comprehend, it would be really boring if we all had the same taste.

I just saw your video of the whole bouncing stuff, loose doors. I'm down for this. Shutup and take my money. If they can replicate the full experience with advanced features, ill pay more than 28

I'd love to see the good old 142's in the game.
I grew up with these, quite literally, as Dad worked for Leyland Bus at Workington. I spent many an hour in and out of them in various states in the production line whilst the old Man was sorting some computer issue. I'm lucky in that I have all his paraphernalia and bits and bobs from the first 001, 141's through to the 155's.
For something that was envisioned as a stop gap they certainly have stood the test of time and so get my backing!

When I worked for BR initially at age 16 I was what was known as a 'Railway Trainee'. One of the placements they had me on was working with the guards and one of the trains I crewed quite regularly was the 142. Somewhere I have a photo of me operating the doors at a station. I must dig that out and post it for nostalgias sake

The earlier 141 replaced 101s on Huddersfield-Leeds services so that could be a decent addon for NTP

I think that pacers would be great in TSW. Seeing as they're close to their demise, it would be good if DTG added in pacers for the Tees Valley route and the North Trans-Pennine as sort of an honorary tribute (even though a lot of people argue that pacers are terrible, which I can see why).

Pacers as trains aren’t great but for me, growing up in South Yorkshire, I’ve known Pacers & Sprinters all my life. It’ll be sad when they’re all gone. They were brought in as a stopgap for a few years yet here we are in 2020 and still bobbing along the tracks.

I’d love to drive a Pacer in TSW out of Sheffield station.

At least the Class 142 and 143 will actually work in TSW unlike TS2020 where it’s stopped functioning

100% would love to see a pacer in TSW!! They are my favourite trains and would be a joy to witness and drive around the network especially on the Saltburn to Darlington and Northern Trans-Pennine route!! They hold a special place in my heart!! Would perfectly fit in to the time both them lines were set in too!!

Four years later and still no pacer in train sim world. Come on DTG! Would also like to see a 153 in TSW (and in TSC as well, the current one is really old and outdated).

Give it a couple of months or so and that may well no longer be a true statement. Except it's JT not DTG making it.

I think the 142 is coming with the JT route,
    [IMG]
This screenshot really gives it away in the top left you can see the bottom corner of the cab window, You can see he rivets below the BR logo and the blue isn't the standard blue on BR Blue units but rather the on used on the 142 at the bottom. I know its not the same livery but rather similar.
(above I know thats a 144 or 143 but you get what I mean).
