Yes it will work Same for Vectron etc. Only some special things, like fault indicators etc wont work.
I hope the vectron finally will get a fix for the Zugsammelschiene. It cant be activated from the loco itself. A bit annoying and reported a long time ago.
And what would happen if you put 2x 218 at one end, and the cab car on the other end? Would both 218s be managed by the cab car?
We wouldn't want that! Would it be possible to disable the cab car and put a second 218 in front of the cab car, to simulate a failed cab car? Or would that also explode?
I doubt any Lokalbahn with n-Wagen would be nearly heavy enough to require doubleheading, and freights don't use cab cars.
InterCities are usually double headed when pulled by 218s though. They can be heavy, and since the 218s HEP generator is powered off of the main engine, AC also takes its toll.
In fact the second loco on ICs is only there to power the aircon. If I am not mistaken one BR218 can only power up to 7 or 8 carriages in addition to pulling the weight. If you want ac to work with longer trains you need a second loco. As described above, this also means the cab car serves no purpose any longer…
Indeed... a couple of years ago, there was a daily commuter train going from Kempten to München in the morning around 7:00, returning to Kempten at about 18:30, consisting of two 218's and 8 Dosto's. Those trains were quite well occupied too, especially in the vicinity of München! Usually the setup was like this: (218)(Dosto)(Dosto)(Dosto)(Dosto Cab)(Dosto)(Dosto)(Dosto)(Dosto Cab)(218) -> München Rarely, when there was a shortage, they used only one 218 for these services... poor thing then had to pull this load all alone, which usually led to delays of about 15-20 mins. But it worked, with AC and during winter. Gotta love the good old 218
True, which is why I specified n-Wagen; the OP was discussing the diesel desk, which is peculiar to the Karlsruher Kopf (also, n-Wagen aren't air conditioned so there isn't that electric load to supply). The IC cab cars (both versions) can control both diesels and electrics.
This should be really needed to play IC118 Bodensee KkStb Voarlberg Bahn because at the time of the root when it was set in 2019 DB Baureihe 218 IC Steuerwagen went Innsbruck Bludenz Feldkirch Lindau Friedrichshafen Stuttgart Hbf. Remember they haven't electrified Lindau Friedrichshafen Stuttgart Hbf until 2023 and also EC München Hbf Lindau Zürich Hb
Is that a guess or something official? Because nothing came from Dtg's side or nothing was announced YET
In theory, sure. But 143s never and only a small number of 110s (actually 115s) ever pulled modern ICs.
Sorry but it was just too good asking in this random thread, as if someone officially will be like "yeah we're doing it by October" :P
There are 3 additional runs Mühldorf to München and return two of those trains run with 2 locos and 8 Dostos, one runs with 2 locos and 9 Dostos. Locos can be 218 or 245. Mostly in sandwich, sometimes double header.
