Have The Oakville Subdivision Passenger Services For Tsw4 Been Cancelled?

    Hello, If I am correct some people from Dtg said that they where working on passenger train addons for tsw 4 Oakville subdivision, On some form that Matt commented on he send the route was going to be rebuilt with the passenger trains and freight services I think or something. I’m not sure? I Was wondering if I could get an update on the progress of the services (passenger trains) being created for this route thanks!

    From what I remember development was stopped some time ago because of some issues that came up while creating the passenger services. Roadmaps have stopped talking about oakville for a while now.

    IIRC Matt said that the planned passenger update broke the game so it was scrapped but he is rebuilding the services from scratch with a passenger timetable that (as far as I remember) will be like the steam gala update was for WSR.

    I hope so. So unrealistic to have Caltrain running outside Toronto.

    And its not even half of the actual commuter route either.

    You can turn on the Alerter safety system which does give you extra points (Platinum medals) for all locomotives except for the F40PH's. Don't turn on ATC/ACSES which doesn't work on this route (it's an American system that is not required in Canada).

    To be honest - once the community mod for Oakville came out, I stopped working on the one I was doing - it was certainly not going to be as good and I have a hundred other things to work on like Clinchfield (which i'm making excellent progress on now btw).

    I appreciate that the community mod is no good for Console players, but, in terms of where my time goes - it felt I could use it more meaningfully elsewhere.

    Thanks Matt. I am honoured. It has given me a greater appreciation of the hard work Joe & Co do.

    Since the last update my timetable and others have been experiencing an issue where if you spawn on foot you start in the original timetable. I think I have tracked the problem down to using layers specifically the Required DLC. My released timetable is divided into 6 layers with the required locomotive plugin added for each. If I remove the Required DLC I can spawn on foot. Not sure if that is recommended to do so (don't know what the consequences would be if someone doesn't have the required DLC installed) or if there is an easy fix on your end.

    Also do not know if it would be possible to fix the Baby Bullet to use custom liveries. Right now it works on the default 6 car formation but not in Formation Designer or custom formations (10, 12 car) like in my timetable.

    It's a bit of a shame if Matt's official update to the route has been put aside.

    Aways on the fence when it comes to mods in fact apart from the environment enhancement one, don't think I have any others installed at present. I like to keep a clean install where possible and that goes for other games too (like Fallout 4 or the truck sims) and even TSC I'm reluctant to add anthing that doesn't come from Steam (Stainmore Sumit and VDL being the honourable exceptions).

    To be honest the timetable needs to be redone before a passenger layer is added as the original timetable is completely inaccurate (garbage in = ?).

    I would be more than happy if my timetable could be ported over to console but as the difficulties of that were just discussed in the latest roadmap.

    It's too bad Matt P. quit working on it. I imagine there are more than a few players who don't (or won't) use mods. I seldom use mods, but I'm currently running one for Fife that works with a specified dependency, and one that changed the colour of the ballast on EG. Both are good and don't seem to mess with the sim itself. YMMV

    That’s very good to hear Matt! I just had one question about clinchfield, and that was if it’s getting the TOD4 treatment?

    Personally would prefer the Oakville Update over Clinchfield but hey ho.
    Guess scenario creator will have to make do fir console then.

    Whereas I have respect for those who create mods, I don't install any myself. I believe that the developer should be the one making improvements and fixing deficiencies in the game. So it's disappointing to see a project abandoned, although I appreciate that this was a personal effort done outside of official duties so we can't really complain too much.

    let just hope DTG Matt will continue on it after his work on Clinchfield RailRoad
    there are more users of this game then just us PC users who can use mods

    It needs to be officially adopted and integrated into the master source of the route so the whole updated item can be shared across all platforms and effectively become Oakville Mark 2. That is, if Matt’s project is permanently canned.

    I understand where Matt is coming from and if I had to choose between Clinchfield and Oakville I would choose Clinchfield.

    Honestly wish they’d bring in another dev or two and restart the preservation team to upkeep the old routes. Would really elevate the sim for the players but it probably doesn’t generate enough revenue to dedicate a team to

    Agreed. I'd definitely put Oakville over CRR in fun and playability, but having said that Oakville is more playable already, so I can see why CRR needs the work to be redone. For the time being, I can just keep running my own scenario with ad-hoc passenger and freight services. No, it's not the right logos for GO Transit or Amtrak, but it's close enough for me ;-)

    Simply put I'm more personally interested in Clinchfield so that's why i've prioritised it, and yes, tod4 is almost finished, two branches left to brush up. Still a long way to go though on the whole project.

    As regards Oakville... I still really like it as a route and project, I have some ideas, I need to look over the mod and talk to the author perhaps when I have some focus and maybe there's something can be done. Freight and switching is my main area of interest personally when it comes to authoring content but I have no idea whether that's been touched yet.

    Off the table? no. Reprioritised because realistically I can only do one thing at a time, and given its my spare time, it should probably be something I want to enjoy first - and for me, always Clinchfield over just about anything else.

    So can I ask when are DTG going to fix it so that us on console can use mods made by the pc community? Bethesda managed it with Fallout and Giant managed it with Farm Sim and considering DTG are now owned by Focus (who used to publish the Farm Sim games) you should be able to get some help from them in figuring out how to make it work

    There was a mod they implemented which I think was a new Skybox for TOD3 from a modder.

    I always look at what SCS does with their map teams for their 2 trucking games and makes me thing its a decent idea.

    As far as American Truck Simulator is concerned. they have 3 map teams focused on map DLC's, and 1 team focused on the base map rebuild project. So they can keep adding in new states while also still updating the old map to newer standards (Though a part of the rebuild was slowed down as the rebuild team was borrowed for Texas, due to the size of Texas).

    If DTG still had the preservation team, they could be focused on bringing old maps up to modern standards (TOD4, bug fixes Etc.) without any resources removed from other members working on DTG's actual route DLCs.

    definitely great examples of how to implement console mods in the future looking, (i should probably rephrase great to Xbox mods though due to Sony’s mod restrictions :|)

    I remember waiting up late for the console mod release on fallout, it got delayed and crashed due to unexpected higher than thought users, but well worth it once things got properly on their available after a little bit.
