Looks like you have the incorrect resolution set either in windows, or the game itself. After a gfx driver re-install, it can sometimes reset to a "safe" default, to ensure you get an image. What's your desktop resolution?

3840 x 2160 @ 60 hz is what is listed in the NVidia control panel. Also, it was like this before I did any driver changes, this is why I run windows full screen normally, even though this stops me from seeing my fps display. Though I do get better performance when running in full screen mode. I just may have to get used to not having the image fill up the entire monitor screen.

Something is not at all right there. What is the resolution of the monitor, and what are your desktop and your in-game resolutions set to?

Resolution of monitor: 3840x2160, the recommended setting
Resolution of desktop same with refresh rate of 60,000 hz, bit depth 8
In game resolution doesn't seem to matter, I have tried every this, when in full screen from 64x480 all the way to the top 5760x3240, but was mostly running at 1920x1440.
OK, I have seen some strange behavior this morning. I had started up the game to get the in-game resolution values. When I clicked on my Edge button, on my second monitor, to get back to the forum, the screen for the game, in the primary monitor, was toggling between actually filling up the monitor screen and back to the 4x3 picture. After doing this several times the image has now settled into covering most, but not all of the monitor screen. This is at 1920x1440.This I can live with and ran a short bit in London Overground and fps was holding upper 40s to upper 50s.

I presume you are running at a lower resolution to keep fps up.
Based on your native resolution, running at a lower resolution of 1920 x 1080 should fill your screen. What happens if you run the game at native resolution? (3840 x 2160), is it still the same ?
Are both monitors identical? Which model are they ? Do they both have the same resolution?
I have not got a multi monitor setup to test, but I would suspect that the primary and secondary monitors are:
    1. Set up the wrong way round.
    or
    2. Have different resolutions assigned to them as default.
    or
    3. A scaling issue caused by a setting in the NCP.
Either way, something is causing a conflict. In your screen shot, the aspect ratio is off. Assuming the native res is correct, your monitor has an aspect ratio of 1.78 (1.777 rec. actual)
Your first number is the width in pixels, so as long as the second number (Height) is the first number divided by 1.777, rounded, it should fill the screen.
    So 3840 x 2160, 2560 x 1440, 1920 x 1080, should all fill your screen perfectly, in full screen mode.

(Apologies if you know all this)

Also, make sure that in the Nvidia control panel, the "Adjust desktop size and position" has "Aspect Ratio" ticked.

I am doing this from memory as I am supposed to be working. ;)

countcussy, thaks for the reply and I won't quote you message, but copy and paste what I need.
Are both monitors identical? Which model are they ? Do they both have the same resolution? Both monitors are Dell S3221QS and are running at 3840x2160
Set up the wrong way round. Now this I am not sure about.
Also, make sure that in the Nvidia control panel, the "Adjust desktop size and position" has "Aspect Ratio" ticked.

Hi Sharon. That looks fine. If you click on the other monitor, do the settings remain the same?
It's a while since I had dual monitors, but I remember the order of the monitors causing me issues when gaming. I also remember having an issue when running a game at less than native on the 2nd monitor, but I cannot remember why.

Setting same on both monitors. With this 3.5 year old unit, I am being left somewhat behind as DTG upgrades the game. Think will just go ahead and buy a new one that can do 4k with what we have. Thanks for all the help here. We have a great community on these forums, though it can get a little testy at time.

No problem. If you primarily use the 2nd monitor for gaming, it may be worth a little experiment.
You may have a different order, but let's say your windows monitor is number 1. Set that at native.
Then set monitor 2 (GAMING) at 1920 x 1080 within windows/NCP. Launch tsw on the gaming monitor, and set the resolution in game at the same 1920 x 1080. It's not ideal, but it may isolate the issue.
I missed what gpu you have, but it may also be part of the problem, although this is less likely tbh. Good luck and let us know.

countcussy, my primary monitor is also the game one, so this may not be a good solution.

Hi , i have a 4070ti , Whats the best settings for nvidia? I am currently using the "Balanced" option on Nvidia , With the "Ultra" present .ini file , Set my ingame to 144fps , As i have my monitor set to 144hz , And V sync on, Wondering if i should change anything to get even better performance it normally stays around 110-130 , But can dip down to 80/90fps when on Gopsel oak to barking with alot of AI traffic, Stuttering has gotten better since using the .ini file but still get the very rare stutter still

You can easily raise your'e graphics.... All more than 60fps is not necessary. I have 60/70 FPS with upscaling to 4k i have a 1440p monitor and without upscaling i have 160 screenprecentage with 2560x1440. I have a 4070TI as well. Settings all ultra except for Sky quality to High

That’s exactly what happened to me after updating the driver. I had to change the resolution back to the previous setting in Windows.

How smooth is it, do you get the hitching etc? 552.22 is still really smooth for me.

555.86 is very smooth for me
the game barely hitches even when playing on routes that have not been cached yet into DXCache
but then owning an 4090 really helps too :)

That's the thing, it doesn't. Hitching caused by loading textures and stuff cannot be mitigated by any GPU, however powerful. I get stutters even when GPU utilization is only at 60%, and then in some areas, no stutters even when it is properly utilized around 100%. The only thing that could theoretically help here is riddiculously overkilled CPU-memory-storage combo, that could supply the data lightning fast. But there will still be some engine limitation.

would be really interesting to see benchmarking scores of diffirent drivers in TSW.
Is there even any way to do it? I recently debloated my nvidia driver with NVcleanstall, that seems to work really well to.

JetWash, it seems that the ultra version of the file is what lead to the problem I had with corrupt images on Fife Circle. The high version, once installed, was fine. Did notice that in going down to the high version I lost the ability to pull my in cab view back further that the 'stock' range. That is a bummer for me since I like to pull back to see the engire cab layout.

No, it was not. Which is interesting since it must have been enabled by default in ultra mode since I had it from the beginning when that was loaded.

Godmode Zoom is not enabled or disabled by the ultra or high ini, or it was not as far as I have seen, it can be enabled and disabled within Godmode itself.

I made a video with that route. almost like a rail-fan type video. I'll edit it and post it on youtube and post the link here so you can see it for yourself and maybe make suggestions and how to tweak it. Or for others who are having problems to come and see if our settings will work for you

Interestingly, I found the other day that something had turned off zoomier zoom on GodMode, as I had to turn it back on after updating a number of addons (this one included).

Zoomier zoom is just a setting in GodMode. As the mod is simply a copy of my GodMode save file it will be whatever the setting is when I create the file and, as it’s just a tickbox, I figured it wouldn’t be too arduous for people to set it to their preferred option themselves.

Well, at least we now know it was JetWash who unchecked the Zoomier Zoom check box. So, I wasn't crazy in saying it happened when I went from ultra to high in his save file. Also it now means we need to check that setting anytime we load a new .sav file.

I didn’t uncheck it per-se, I just didn’t specifically check it. But then I never have done. Once it’s checked you don’t need to touch it again unless you overwrite the file for some reason.

I absolutely promise that for everyone that was bothered by it not being checked there are/were an equal number of people equally annoyed it was. QED. Sometimes you just can’t win.

For those of you who have the latest 555.99 drivers, how are those working for you? With this mod inparticular?Especially with the last TSW4 core update?
And for those of you who are participating in the Windows insider's program and are on 24 H2 preview how is it impacting on your performance?
I'm on it and it's been a mixed bag for me. Especially with the last update. If anyone has any pointers or settings you can share with me please do. Thanks.

Im currently on the 552.44 drivers wich I debloated with NVCleanstall and I must say debloated drivers are a must for people who want the most out of their system. The lag spikes are down (mainly in other games because TSW is the worst game ever for lag spikes) and an overall higher fps (for me 10 to 20 fps depending on the game). If you need a good guide for how to do this, I highly recomend the youtube chanel Panjno.
Here's a link to the debloat video:

I read online that the 555.xx drivers arent as good as the 552.xx drivers, atleast for latancy and 1% lows, I haven't tried them though.

Regarding Windows I use the 22H2 version of Windows 11, but again debloated wich improves the overall performance by a large amount, also noticble in games especialy the 1% and 0,1% lows. This will not be for everyone though as your disabling or uninstalling core windows features like Cortana or Copilot. You can however chose wich tweaks you want or don't want if you use cortana for example. For people who value their privacy I also highly recomend debloating Windows as you're also disambling telemetry (the user data your pc sends to microsoft).

If your interested here is a complete guide:
Be aware that you dont change anything on your PC without doing your own research or you could break something!

    Regards, Robin

Did you notice a difference in smoothness and fps if you don't cap to 60?
Also did you do the debloat of the driver and windows?

yes i debloated the driver as best i could. and while it felt a bit smoother i was concerned about the blocky dark spots.
555.99 seams a little better graphicswise but IMO needs more work.
Debloating windows, would i need to do a clean install to do that?

Right now I am in the teeth gritting period after installing a new computer. My new graphics card has to register every single route so its nerve racking to have to sit through the 2 - 3 second stops all through the run, but once I get past this it will be great. Before someone asks, NVidia RTX 4090 running the 555.99 driver.

Try rolling back the drivers, and did you clear out the DirectX Shader cache with disk cleanup, if not try that, and it may not be a bad idea to do it to get a fresh shader cache.

DX Shader Cache will update automatically when the driver has changed, using Hash values to check for validity.

I only suggested that, because the software even drivers can get corrupted or just not get properly installed.
Like the old "just turn it off and on sometimes does the trick"

You can debloat your existing windows install, I do suggest you make a back up.
I have'nt noticed any darkspots myself but hey every system is diffirent. I do have one question though, why do you use studio drivers on the 555.99?
Game ready drivers are overall more optimized for games I think.

Finally gave in and bought this. May need to adjust some graphics settings though.
I reinstalled the enhanced lighting and graphic enhancement after the fact. And this is with the 556.12 game ready driver by Nvidia.
Anyone else running this driver? How's your game performing with it?

Everything looked smooth, but the colors are looking washed out, the orange is looking more like a Tan/khaki color the reds are very muted. And this is with the updated drivers and the enhanced ini? Are you using Reshade?
