The only way anyone will know is if (yes if, not when) it is announced.

I have the feeling I've read this question before...

    Something will happen.
    Guaranteed.

Nah, not really think that it will happen...

I mean, releasing a public editor for TSW4 and let quite a remarkable number of people start building routes and locos for TSW4? Then suddenly announcing a TSW5 with a maybe change to UE5.xx? Rejecting all the community projects, because they have to be developed for UE5? It wouldn't be a very smart move by DTG.

Releasing a multiple part core update, and then, just a couple of weeks later, changing to TSW5? That doesn't seem to be an economical viable way for a computer programme.

There are still bugs in TSW2 or 3 discussed in the forum (so, not the whole user community changed to TSW4), and then hammering out a TSW5? At least for me, that won't work.

to the best of my knowledge it seems to have been published by focus the owner of DTG, that TSW is a yearly release.

So the only thing not guaranteed on such release details is the date and name.

you must be new here :D;)

edit: I agree with you, but same discussion every year happens, money still talks louder.

There has been very little news over the past month, so I think it's safe to assume DTG is now working on TSW 5. The same radio silence was months before releasing TSW 4 and TSW 3.

I really hope it will be a free update. It doesn't make sense to charge for TSW5, when there are still bugs to be fixed with TSW2, TSW3 and TSW4. I think it should be the way TSC receives it's core updates free of charge

Smart money says it will be the same as last year. The pattern has already repeated itself with a small filler route (Goblin) whereas last year we had the similar petite Glossop Line in the spring. As noted the virtual radio silence on anything significant route wise apart from San Bernardino which now seems odds on favourite to be the TSW5 US contender.

There will be the same levels of packages and pre order enticement discounts to lull us into buying this years update. Which, if the UK and European route/trains are interesting enough I will probably go along with, even though TSW4 at present is getting next to no play time here.

I suspect there will be a TSW >insert new name here< at sompoint this year.
To be honest I don't see a problem in it. We have a brand new
    EA football game every year
    EA F1 game every year
Call of Duty game every year
NBA Basket Ball game every year
    Baseball game every year

Of course you will get the usual " its a cash grab mob" venting spleen, as they are never happy. But at the end of the day it's how companies make money.

If it wasn’t TSW5, it would be a £40 content bundle or season pass…

I just hope that whatever comes, we don't have to download every DLC again. I have fast internet at home so it's not so bad, but I was at my Dad's house in the UK when both TSW3 and TSW4 came out and to download everything again for TSW4, Steam forecast 8 days!

I keep seeing this argument and it makes less and less sense each time. Charging money for the same product should be criminal, I wouldn't care that much if it wasn't for the fact that new DLCs are paywalled behind the latest iteration. "But you get the 3 routes for the price of 1", but I could not care less about slow American diesels, so that doesn't help me. I'd rather buy the game alone for reduced price then, but I can't. I'm obviously still on TSW3 and cannot buy new DLCs even if I wanted to. Although, at this point it's more of a pro...

No, why would they? We have TSW 4 and it is the only Tsw that released 1 year after the one before. Just because this happended ONE time it doesnt mean it will happen again.
Tsw 1 and 2 lasted more than one year and they had also a poor amount of releases in some periodes of time.
One thing i would like to see is an developer clearing this question.
(If this didnt happen in another of the many threads about this)
Anyway i would buy Tsw 5 if it would use the same UE 4 Editor and if it has a german and not austrian route again.

...and how they end up with a "enough is enough" thread on the official forums with hundreds of upvotes and pages, have yet to see that on SCS forums.

We just act like Tsw 4 german, UK, etc. packs dont exist?
And for me i dont buy US or UK routes, but if a Tsw contains all of these countries i take them. The deluxe and all this high tier versions are a bit useless for me, but players that want to extend in every country fast have the oppurtinity to do so.

I permanently deleted Sand Patch Grade from my Steam library, could not care less about it, and could not care less about the other "packs" or "bundles" for that matter.

I think TSW5 is coming, and I strongly suspect some kind of subscription is too. We already have a subscription model with Train Simulator Classic, so I wouldn't be surprised if a similar setup was brought to TSW.

Degrading Goblin to a filler? That may be your point of view, but for the most people Goblin was one of DTGs most beautiful routes.

Possible. But it won't be subscription only. That was already categorically ruled out. It might be something additional, but the "classic" way to get DLCs will stay.

Each to their own but after two or three runs each way I found it incredibly boring and haven’t been back to it. Should have either included the NLL or been the latter instead. :)

How is Goblin a filller route like glossop? It released 3 months ago and is the only UK route post release from DTG. They also already have 3 routes lined up for release which wasnt the case in the roadmaps leading up to TSW4.

It should finally be an end to the annual TSW! It would really be a cheek to publish a new TSW and then simply offend the currently active community with the great projects! It's better to stick to TSW4 and release new DLC and, most importantly, finally fix all the errors that have been known for a long time! This would definitely provide more satisfaction; when troubleshooting is addressed. TSW2 and TSW3, despite all the errors, were simply no longer developed further.ed further.

TSW 5 should be a free upgrade and then charge for the route bundle they do every year. Imagine spending months making a route in the editor and have your progress halted because you're forced to buy TSW 5 to continue.

I think there’s a strong possibility it’s TSW 5 but if it’s not, assuming we’re getting another Dovetail Direct later this year it could just be announcements for more routes or routes + a major core update. What else could it be?

They haven't even released the full summer core update yet.

Why not worry about a TSW5 after that.

not calling Goblin or Cathcart bad routes, they ain’t but they are the filler routes

I’m pretty sure it was mentioned before that DTG’s schedule hits a point where there isn’t enough room to do a usual 30-50 miles route but can still make a route so they look for something what fits in just the same.

probably got a 99% guarantee it will be the usual bundle, 3 routes possibly extra loco dlc possibly not, based at around £35-£50 ish depending on bundle and possible price changes.

I can't believe people are asking is there a TSW5. The same thing happens year after year. The only time they didn't do it was rush hour which was basically a new version that was paid for but given a name instead of a number.....

The only way there won't be a TSW5 is if a new simulator from DTG is on the horizon.

I cannot see TSW5 coming this summer. I sincerely hope not. I have a full set of products and a slow internet, takes ages to reinstall everything. Hope there is something like they did with TSW2 with Rush Hour. DTG have just released a 39gb core update and another core update coming next month, l don’t think they would do this if TSW5 was on the immediate horizon. TSW4 is good enough to keep and work on to improve without another new game.

TSW4 Heritage collection with a few really well known heritage routes and a couple of steam locomotives would be fabulous.

I hope some of the bugs with the dynamic weather in ToD4 are fixed with TSW4. It would be great to see some of the older routes get the ToD4 upgrade along with some scenery upgrades like Peninsula Corridor, Harlem Line, Sandpatch Grade, and London Underground

Already addressed that earlier in the thread. Yes it is a nice route but ultimately it's a short A to B bus service with a modern EMU, the only saving grace of which it has a good view out the front window and moderately reasonable sounds. However it got uber boring very quickly which it wouldn't have done if the North London Line had been the project or also included.

You can bet your pension on DTG releasing some new update that will cost you large.
It's the nature of the beast. Any money i have for the next 12 months will be going to ETS2, ATS and SimRail.

What are the chances the routes already on the roadmap are part of a big summer release? There's UK and DE routes, but the only US route is the San Bernardino line, which they tend to avoid announcing until the summer release is first made public.

Previously they have kept summer release content off the roadmap, which is why the roadmap usually goes quite empty this time of year. IMO there's no harm in announcing they are working on future routes now, even if they're intended for the big summer release.

Not really no as I still buy TSW / TSC routes for the PC even though yes I can get them free if I wanted to.

Sorry what message would that be?
If I dont like what I see then i say it. So not sure what you are getting at.

Yes, a well built route and train but in the end just a short bus ride from SE London to NW London. I did a couple of runs, including the " soccer stadium " scenario which managed to avoid showing any stadia, rather reminiscent of Yankee Stadium in Harlem. You kinda knew it was tedious when the preview stream highlight was one railway line passing over another.
Anyway after an hour or so, I was so bored I just refunded it.

Glossop was another boring joystick commuter route that I've never replayed since purchase. Should also have refunded but waited too long.

As far as TSW5 goes I think we'll see the long delayed San Bernardino and the refurbished Cathcart Circle along with an unknown German offering accompanied by some rather pointless features like the suspension app or some such to make it appear as a " new " iteration.

The things we really want to see, like the Class 104 and a new US freight route will be noticeably absent.

Personally I find goblin line to be a fantastic route. I get your point about the stadium scenario if you could see them in the distance that would have been great.

Think I was either on a Steam "yellow card" at that point or had gone over the 2 hour limit, but part of me wishes I had.

Of course it will be interesting to see if the Class 710 does figure as a layer in whatever TSW does have in store for us later in the year. Or it ends up being another wasted opportunity like the Class 700.

Come on, SD40 Australia. Let's not lose get into personal attacks, huh? Also please don't spread false information. DTG doesn't make him say *anything*, also they don't 'sanction' it if you're voiceing critical thoughts.

Very true, either way, it may be best to be glad that something is being worked on and that TSW will overall improve. Gotta be in the moment and enjoy what we have so far

Exactly this. TSW 4 is incredible when you look how far it has came. Let’s also remember the developers were all new to the engine as well and how far they have improved. I am all for TSW 5 if it comes I will buy it as it just keeps getting better.
