As the title suggests… Spawned on foot in Timetable mode on DCZ. Successfully placed a consist with the 218. Next question is, how on earth do I define where I want the train to go or where I want to call at, in the case of a passenger service? Or is that not actually possible?
IIRC you need to sit in the driver seat, then open the 2D map, point and click on the loco and then define the destinations. Path is then calculated automatically.
Important for path selecting is, the direction of the loco has to look forward to get a correct path where you can divert into a loop or platform. Thats something DTG might improve for freeroam. If you use 2 locos on a consist you can also set the path from the second or rear loco as long it looks into the direction of your path.
In case you set the path against the forward direction of the loco "it works" too , but only for shunting in a yard for example. As soon you run a distance on the line you get guided on the wrong track and the dispatcher doesnt allow to divert the path. DTG Alex , is it possible to update the pathing system in a way that both loco directions behave the same way when setting / diverting paths.
Good point. Must admit before I place the consist I was having to wrack my brains which was the correct direction at Chemnitz to face towards Dresden. Obviously somewhere like Lindau not an issue as it’s a terminus station but could do with some sort of aid, even just a toggleable compass to orientate at through stations.
There're several branch lines (Power Plants, Industrial) which were never reachable before the event of Free Roam. Amazing that those spots are (mostly) very nicely modeled. I've just tried some services around Freiberg on DCZ. But I won't spoil, there's much to discover ...
True. And that really is part of the beauty of getting the 218. We finally have a loco with which we can (somewhat) realistically explore many of these sidings now.
As a follow up, I take it you get no AP or driving summary for the run once you reach the destination marker? Arrived at Dresden, hit the marker and nothing happened. Exited the train, still nothing. Deleted the train still nothing. So while it’s a useful mechanism to use your own consist amidst the full timetable, rather than using the scenario editor and having to manually set up AI services, it doesn’t advance your “career” so to speak.
I would expect this behaviour - after all, you haven't selected a service, so there isn't a place to put the well-deserved platinum medal you would receive at the end.
It does kind of negate the usefulness, though. You are still adhering to speed limits and any signal restrictions from following other trains in the timetable. What we really need is a scenario editor where you can set up the player run in detail, but have the AI auto generated same as in TSC quick drive.
I find that the paths that Free Roam puts you on are often (more often than not) totally ludicrous. I tried a run from Wurzburg to Kassel and a quarter of the way there I was routed onto the opposite running track for the rest of the trip for no reason. Another one was on Fife Circle where it routed me right around the circle to get from one station to what should have been the next stop along the other way round. There was no way I could get it to go left at the junction and stay on the correct track, even with a waypoint. It has been less useful to me as a feature than scenario planner. Another one was on GWE where it told me that a location further up the on the track I was on was not a valid location.
