just for the hell of it, I did a run on Munchen Augsburg with a 111, and kept right on time lol you were absolutely right
What's each of those gauges? Can't read them even with FullHD, since it's just not really possible to zoom in enough. (I figured that the last one is the engine RPM.) Also, what are the two engine groups?
have you guys tried this on other routes than Hamburg Lubeck (and maybe Maintalbahn, but I dont have that one )? what are your experiences? I mean, so far I tried Koln Aachen and Munchen Augsburg, and as lamplight (I think) suggested, those services are more meant for 111 and such locos capable of reaching 140-160 and fast on a side, hypothetical note... lets say Koln Aachen, 218 at the head, +6 dostos (cab car at the rear)... how would the game react in timetable mode, if I just spawned another 218 and coupled it to this consist? y know, to have double the power edit: tried it, the game doesnt let you :/
Which is part of the fun using this add on. Thrash the guts out of the thing in a vain attempt to keep time. Far more entertaining than an electric glide, having to throttle back and coast all the time. As the old saying goes, steady ain’t sexy or in this case on time all the time ain’t sexy. Give the AI signaller something to do sorting out all that late running. And if you do want to recover your service, just do what the real railway does and run fast through a couple of stops, which TSW now allows you to do.
I got new glasses (4K vision helps ) That looks like coolant water level, engine oil temperature, hydraulic gear oil temperature, and coolant temperature. Second engine group would be to remote start the second locomotive if there is one.
Absolutely delighted with this DLC. A train that you actually have to drive, well modelled and excellent sound. If I had to be picky, I wouldn’t have added the Dosto Cab Car scenario. Tod3 never looks that good at night so for over an hour in the dark, sat in the cab car with no nice diesel sounds was a bit of a bore. Done it now though. Really good fun to drive in daylight though, with the scream of the engine in your headphones. (I now want a Paxman Valenta HST more than ever - very similar screaming turbos) Congratulations to TSG. Job very well done.
I don't really have anything to complain about, except that the 218 could really use its own great route. Otherwise, great DLC!
One slight observation from last nights session… The headlights do not cast much illumination on the line ahead. Maybe just TSW generally or a TOD3 thing, but you would expect a small amount of light on the track ahead and of course signage.
That's to protect the loco. Maximum permitted speed is 140 in fast gear and 100 in slow gear. Worth reiterating at this point that any services outside of HBK and Maintalbahn were not intended to appear as stated by Maik Goltz. They're an unintended result of the way TSW handles substitution. Not that I'm complaining - I think it can stand in quite nicely for rescue runs or otherwise replacing unavailable locos. RSN, too, for the short movements between Boele and Hagen that Rivet's 204 also subbed into. I'm looking forward to giving those a whirl as well. It may be unintended, but it might be a blessing in disguise to get more timetable runs out of her.
As said on a different thread, this type of gameplay is unwanted from my side, because of these problems and the door side thing, but i can't prevent it as the substitution system works like that. It's only player driveble and not AI, so the timetable will work without any AI problems. When you going over the locos max speed a protection system kicks in for the hydraulic transmission (at 150 in gear 2 and 110 in gear 1). You need to power down the engine to idle RPM and then going below 50kph to reset the lock.
may I have a humble suggestion? I mean, if some of them are, well, not real, how about changing the consists? as an example, lets take that run of mine on Koln Aachen - the big delay wouldnt be nearly as big if the loco power pulling those heavy dostos was sufficient for it to gain speed quicker... one 218 is just not enough for the consist with 6 dostos to accelerate enough to make the times... maybe put two 218s at the head of such consist so it gains speed quicker and that way it could actually arrive on time even on 140 km/h I know that but usually, in MOST locos, as soon as you get like 5 kmh above vmax, PZB intervenes with brakes and releases them when below vmax... and this intervention happens almost instantly... here I was speeding from 140 to 150 for quite some time (cant remember how long, minute or two?) and I was holding like 150 km/h, so I thought, well, game is letting me (like it lets you drive 110 at 160 without any repercussions, last time I tried), so I kept going... and all of a sudden traction lock that I couldnt get rid of even when below vmax... it only went away when I stopped at next stop (which I almost missed cos I was panicking over this)... so I guess that this loco is more benevolent, like it only shuts traction if you are speeding for like a minute or sth?
Not possible. The original consist has one loco and the 218 subs in for this loco. That's it. You can't sub in 2 locos for one at the moment (and if ever) as the substitution does not allow that.
oh master where can I learn this power )) anyway, it took like a minute (I guess?) for the protection to kick in at 150 kmh... ooook, so if I had braked below 50 kmh, it would release the lock wow thanks for this piece of info as I mentioned above, is it possible to modify some of those consists for timetable? I mean, two 218s might be able to deal with 1.0% and such inclines better... if 218 never served this route, then it shouldnt really matter if there is one 218 or two )) anyway, what is a "preferred" way to drive this loco? I mean, how to go over the notches to drive "safely"... cos I mean, I am sure that blasting it at notch 15 right away would make the loco explode lol and what about the brake notches? I noticed when using train brake that it skips between 3 and 5, like it doesnt let you select brake notch 4... maybe it is just keyboard issue?
oh ok so I guess I could roleplay those services like... omg, OG loco broke down and so they sent this slower workhorse, so ppl, expect delays... cos DB ?
Is it worth a go, or should I go for Simrail in the sales..... I am tempted especially seeing that it's decent bit will it provide hours of fun or is it couple of evenings and then wait for the next DLC in 6 months...?
Much as I like SimRail, the 218 definitely trumps it. I’m even considering not buying so much for TSC in the Steam sale starting tomorrow, as I’m likely not to be touching it while I focus on the 218. It really is that good. As a measure of that, it’s even interrupted my reprise of GTA SA in the early evening (not to mention it’s too hot for FPS shooters at present).
IMHO the BR 218 is *THE* Free Roam loco for the german routes. The Rivet 204 is a weakling (and completely wrong in sound, physics and dynamics) So, apart from the scenarios and timetables, you can have a lot of fun everywhere.
What I've been told is: Go to notch 2 to fill the transmission. Go to notch 7 to get moving. When the RPMs have stabilised, advance in steps of 2: 7-9-11-13-15 always waiting for the RPMs to finish rising in between. By the time you finish getting to notch 15, you'll likely be around 40km/h in speed. That being said, some drivers were less careful opting for a 0-8-15 approach (which is a satirical reference to something being 0815, meaning ordinary in a derogatory way in German). As an aside: Then, there's the approach that I've been told BR drivers took with the hydraulic Class 52, which is to just open her up completely from a standstill. That was never practiced in Germany though as far as I'm aware.
Coming home off my hols in Greece tomorrow so will see what I plump for in the sales. If the 218 is that good it may swing me. Always the refund option....
interesting maybe I am blind, but which dial/display shows the RPM? I was looking around the cab to see which dial shows activity, but only ones moving (at least what I saw) were the speed dial and the one on the left... which one then shows the RPM and such? in electric trains/locos/most locos I usually suit my driving style depending on the kN display/dial to keep steady acceleration
Pros: sounds good, looks good, and performs good. Even some brilliant smoke effects cons: boring scenarios with no life to them, seen more life in a Petri dish in a science lab, suspension doesn’t seem to be working correctly at all, it’s notable on training centre and that’s it XSX
I'm loving it very much so far, but there's one thing on the sounds that I notice a lot and that is the lack ( or very silent ) sound of the transmission. On this video you can see what I mean, it sounds as if the loco had electric motors ( but ofc it doesn't, cuz' it is hydraulic ). It is the "higher pitch" sound that is audible. I believe this sound is actually in the locomotive, but it can only be heard from the outside.
Yes, it's there and is audible a bit more on cab 2 than cab 1. But i couldn't make it louder or it will distract a lot of people that are sensitive of those noises (remember the buzzing sounds on the 185, people complained about it so it got removed again).
I guess you dont mean that higher pitched kind of squeaky sound that sounds as if there is still some brake engaged even when it is not? I believe this guy mentions it somewhere around first couple mins anyway, a couple ppl around the forum mentioned RPMs on this loco... which dial in the cab shows the RPM? I can only see the Gear icon, which I believe shows if the oil is in the system and the loco is ready to accelerate, or sth
The sounds are absolutely Geisteskrank! Especially when you switch notches down, beautiful! From the 5 services I tried, I failed 3 due to SPAD. I'm totally looking forward to the learning experience to master this loco! I took the locomotive to DRA since I can see better there ... ;-) What really got me confused TWO times was the tutorial. When you are driving the first time (learning notches 6,11,15) and approaching the first stop, there is a "go via" instruction right before (1km or so) the actual stop! The instruction is not displayed in the HUD! I didn't get the icon right (because I have them usually off, except the Training Center) that displayed "go via" and not "stop" so I stopped before the go via marker. Same happend with the cab car tutorial. It felt a little bit embarrassing ... One question though: Why do I have two timetables on Maintalbahn, neither one including the 218!? (PC, Steam) I will give more precise feedback once I learned and mastered to drive, worked through the scenarios and completed the Journey chapter for the loco on HBL
Hello Maintalbahn: I have this route but can't find this BR 218 loco in it. Nahverker Dresden : The BR 218 is appeared in, and I can use freight and passenger train too. I'm very confused.
This is needed for triggering the brake objectives at the right spot. Just ignore it. It is set to not being displayed, but it displays anyways. There is something wrong with the Maintalbahn TT for the 218. We are investigating it. The game mixes both TTs somehow and sometimes it gets weird. On the right you can see the involved trains, one should also show the 218, and that's the correct 218 timetable then, no matter what name is on it.
It’s the most right dial left under the driver’s desk. It’s the right one here: The one that says “U/min” (RPM) in it.
Great locomotive, overall! However, I encountered these bugs: - Sound of handbrake tightening/releasing (audio loop). - SIFA warning light in the "Karlsruher" almost always flickers if the system is activated. - Using external view, when it rains, the 218's windshield wipers lose their animation. Has anyone come across them? I'm on PC.
Got the engine störung light going up by fiddling with the throttle & brakes (though no performance impact is observed), how can i turn off that light?
Minor audio glitch: looping bug with the handbrake (not that anyone ever uses it outside the tutorials) which leaves a momentary silent gap between loops.
Notch 2 to fill the torque transmission, then swiftly into 7 and then as desired. Reducing from 15 to 6 gradually and then swiftly to 0 to shut out. At least that's what the real documentation says. H-Brake in 218 is a seperate torque transmission with sort of paddles which are feathered dependent on the dynamic brake setting and oil level in the H-Brake transmission, so your kinetic energy is being translated into oil heat in the H-Brake. That's what I've been told. So - at least in my logic - if the main torque converter (Wandler) isn't filled (notch 0), H-Brake shouldn't influence the Motor RPM sort of like neutral in your car gearbox.
btw what is that kinda higher pitched noise that sounds as if some slight brake was still engaged? part of engine/transmission/acceleration sounds?
I kind of want to buy it (I love the 218). But where can I play it ? Hamburg Lubeck is... not really fun and I don't own the Niddertalbahn and the Maintalbahn. Do I still give it a go or not ?
I figured that it could be the case where it is more audible in one cab than the other. Thanks for replying!
PS5 console Maintalbahn ....... two Timetables .... one contains services for BR 218 I choose some service for BR 218, it starts, it works, so I didn't play then, but it starts correctly...... I will select the In foot mod and the original timetable will probably start, because BR 218 is nowhere to be found. I notice a similar phenomenon at Köln - Aachen, where Timetable New Journey cannot actually be started in In foot mode either, the original timetable is also started.
This BR 218 is awesome, thanks a lot TSG/Maik Goltz. I noticed one thing in rainy weather, above 20km/h (accelerating or decelerating), the rain effect on the cabin windows disappears on PC/steam.
I have noted that the BNRDZF 463.0 Diesel does not move after setup in accordance with the instruction given in the training run. Getriebepower, Zugsammelschiene and KWS Fernsteuerung is ON. Did some research in the 218 and noticed that the switch “Mehrfachtraktionssystemauswahl” is by default in Position ZWS. Switching to KWS does the trick. Is this the correct procedure or did I miss something in the BNRDZF cab? I am on XBX, free roam
I would support this as a compromise to see the correct brake pressure. Certainly the Zusi 3 218 does not demonstrate this effect. In a real cab you could swivel your head to compensate but driving from a fixed view in a pseudo 3D environment that’s not possible.
After briefly playing with the new DB 218 locomotive, I found the following issue: When the DB 218 locomotive is coupled with Dostos coaches, the passenger lights switch inside the locomotive's cab works correctly on the Hamburg-Lübeck (HBL) route, allowing you to turn the passenger lights on and off. However, on the Maintalbahn (MTB) route, the passenger lights on the Dostos coaches do not function at all. It appears that the Dosts coaches included in the MTB route might be an older version. As a result, when operating a timetable mode service on the Maintalbahn route during nighttime with the BR 218 locomotive pulling Dostos coaches, passengers are sitting in complete darkness, which is highly unrealistic. I hope this issue can be addressed promptly.
Scenarios are very lacklustre, dead and frankly if any content creators did videos on them I’d turn them off after 5 minuets, and don’t get me started on to the rescue being broken
What I've found so far: Hamburg-Lubeck With n-Wagen formation from the timetable service: "Zugbeleuchtung" does not affect the lights in the coaches at all. Is it supposed to be like that? Maintalbahn Timetable mode, any formation with 218's on either end of the dostos. Switching off the train heating in loco 1, with the switch set to loco 1+2 only turns off the train heating from loco 1, loco 2 remains on. Free Roam (tested on DRA) Spawned a single loco and did some shunting. When switching between cabs I noticed that, when "Wendezugsteuerung" is set to neither KWS/ZWS but rather off and you try to drive from the oppositve cab, the loco only moves backwards. Doesn't matter what you set the reverser to. Putting it back on ZWS seemingly fixed it. Switching the PZB mode also did nothing, PZB remains in "O", regardless of what the switch says, confirmed by the blue "85" lit up. Maybe not a bug: I set the loco brake in cab 1 to lets say 2 Bar and the lever is in the hold position. I switch to cab 2 and want to get going so I'll put the loco brake lever to release. It doesn't release the brake any lower than 2 Bar. Is it supposed to be like that? I always thought you'd use the loco brake to stop the loco while changing cabs.
This is why it really deserves its own route where it can be shown off to best advantage. The first scenario I played on HBL was little more than a normal passenger run calling at the two larger intermediate stations. But the loco itself is without a doubt superb, about to dive in now and thrash it across DCZ or RSN.
