Dovetail Games Tsw July Roadmap - Q&a Thread

As I’ve outlined in this thread, there seems to be something fundamentally wrong with the way the newer Class 66s in TSW apply power:

Essentially, it would seem that notch 1 gives you way too many amps and notches 2-4 also seem to behave erratically.

Is the team aware of this issue? Are there any plans to address this?

 

So assuming the question about TSW5 gets ignored, can I put a follow up as to exactly what DTG's vision now is for the TSW product?
We have lost steam traction, US freight is on hiatus, we're never getting New York Subway, Great Western have given the finger over licensing. How are you planning to astonish and woo us away from TSC, SimRail, Run 8 and all the other great products out there? Please don't say you are hinging the future on more flat routes in the Home Counties with electric start/stop bus services, short German interurban runs or scraping the barrel what you can do in the USA?

 

To be fair they will probably defer as many questions as possible, waffle on about Cathcart and the 218 and not say anything else because then they can have a big fanfare in August to announce TSW5 and the multitude of things that has been rolled over continuously for the past few months.

 

Will the safety system scoring penalties that occur on LIRR be removed? They really detract from the experience and unfairly penalize players for cab signal drops caused by traffic unpredictability. "Go slower than you think you should" and "learn the route" aren't really great solutions.

 

Will there be tea and biscuits this time? I'd settle for a Jaffa pie.

I'd like to ask where the new fun stuff is at in the scheme of things? Also, are there any longer routes with logical beginnings and endings planned? All these great traction models, and there's four inches of track to move them on (sorry, a tad sarcastic there, I apologize)...

 

Any chance of a Class 55 joining our BR Blue brigade? Would be awesome for heritage runs, subs on Blackpool, NTP etc.

 

I doubt we'll get a Deltic on this roadmap... but for future it would be lovely to have one to layer onto the ECML in a preserved condition where you can absolutely thrash it!

 

Simply put. What are Just Trains working on. And when is it releasing. Because my wallet is ready. Those guys know what they’re doing.

 

Are there any other routes in the pipeline to be upgraded to TOD4 standards, and if so what is the criteria for a route to be selected and remastered? As London to Brighton or NTP seem absolute perfect candidates for such treatment.

 

They are doing class 380 add on alongside the CC update... imagine if they made Class 700 FLU add on for BML to justify update.

 

Could be less obvious with freight operators, like Colas.. since freight operators go all over the country, and in some cases all over the world!
So saying something about Colas being interested could be a better option, but I doubt they'd say anyway in case things changed unexpectedly.

 

I find the 700 an incredibly 'beige' unit. It's detailed nicely in the game, but I only really use it for AI to make SEHS more realistic and more busy with railway traffic...

Unfortunately BML wouldnt cater for it because of the era it is set in, but a Thameslink Class 319 would be a bit more of a challenge and have a lot more personality to drive!

BML is set 2017-2018 (minus the 375 diversions which actually happened a few years earlier), the 700s first entered service in Spring 2016 so BML is in the right time period for them.

 

3 questions.
- Any newer information about the upcoming Expert DB BR 101 add-on?
- The people who already own the existing version of DB BR 101 will get a loyalty Discount for the upcoming Expert DB BR 101 add-on?
- Any plans for any other European countries and their respective Routes like Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania etc.?

 

Are there any plans to make a toggle for suspension so i can turn them off ? Like with cab swaying ?

 

Any questions related to "is this coming or that coming" won't be answered in a roadmap stream. You get the usual if it's not on the roadmap, no plans response

Given this, here is my question: "what is the release date of TSW 5?"

 

In the Anticipation part of the LAMP process, which counts for more in the Suggestions forum - a suggestion which lots of people contribute their opinions to, or lots of suggestion threads for the same route from different people? In other words, quality or quantity?

 

There's some news about the editor, it's cooking fix and the tutorial? It's very kind have just a little world on it just to know if you're still on it or not, and in which quantity....

 

Ignored? JD answered that TSW5 will be addressed back-end of July/early August or I read his answer wrong and he did not spill the beans on TSW5 for free

 

We recently had the big 'German routes patch'. In the patch notes nothing was said about the HMA route. So I'm guessing the mess with signals and PZB magnets that exists on this route was not fixed. Why was this ignored and when can we expect a fix for this?

When can we expect a fix for the old LIRR route. At the moment safety systems in the M3 are not working as they should and are therefore unusable.

 

Regarding operator licensing: - Has DTG ever asked how all the model train companies (Accurascale, Dapol, Bachman, Heljan, Hornby, etc, in the UK) manage to release (for example) a Class 66 in every conceivable operator livery that exists, including some very specific one-off commerative liveries, from day 1 of their model release? Why are operators so fussy on giving TSW licences, but apparently 'free' and easy with any modelling related ones?

 

Not wanting to answer on behalf of DTG, but I would say one vital difference is that applying a livery to a OO or N gauge model is not putting people in a replica cab of the real thing and showing them how to drive it. Or generally people paying the extortionate price model stuff now costs, are not likely to start staging crashes or derailments with it.

 

Any updates on the AI PIS bug on SEHS and NYT?

 

I think most people want to try to drive as realistically as possible and pay attention to the signals and speeds and transport passengers. I don't think most people start testing accidents and derailments.

 

Will TSW ever support VR headsets? With the awesome build quality of the locomotives and the car it would be amazing.

 

I would like to request feedback on:

- [PlayStation] Many loco's alternative internal cabin views are frozen, not allowing one to pan around with the thumbsticks and toggling buttons (say lights, or PZB), rendering those views completely useless.
- [General] Any plans (TSW5?) to do something with the immersion-breaking "Do you want to give up this service" prompt that appears every two minutes? Certain scenarios have you wait for (much) longer than this at some point, and leaving the driver's seat punishes players with this annoying popup. Repeatedly.

 

Any news on the SKA red train pantograph bug please? DTG Matt will know what I’m on about. I’m not very good at explaining, but in short it cannot draw power as there is no pantograph.

 

Also a carry forward item from last time

Long tunnels - I would be interested to hear from DTG Matt about why we sometimes see the light at the end of the tunnel in Bakerloo line and SEHS for example and then it just disappears and the tunnel continues. This is on both PS4 and PS5, so I reckon it isn’t really a bug and rather to do with draw distance (mentioned by another poster above) and tile loading. I would like to hear how/if Matt thinks this could be addressed please

This is partly due to how the simulation renders lighting when travelling into and out of tunnels, however, it probably warrants a deeper explanation which we can look to dive into for our next roadmap!

 

Matt said last month suspension should be ready by July. It was an advertised feature for TSW4. I don't think this will be the case.
If it is then I think DTG will have a player revolt on their hands.

 

It's always last on the yearly survey but matt explained a while ago that it's not happening. There's just little interest in it and unless people own a headset which is expensive, it's pointless. Better spent on something players are interested in

Will the step lights on ES44C4 be fixed or no? They been bugged since TSW3 launched. I made several tickets and nothing has happen.

 

Will the U.S core update finally have the NJT bilevel cars not having their lights on finally be fixed. Whenever I operate a NJT service, the passenger lights are not on during the day so whenever I enter NY Penn as a passenger in the tunnels, and when the sun sets, the train is completely dark.

Will there also be a fix to the passenger issue on LIRR? Specifically the issue where there are zero passengers spawing at Mineola, Lynbrook, Centre Avenue, East Rockway, Oceanside, and Long Beach.

 

Nope, but all it takes is one person to post it on youtube, and it goes viral and then you have some sort of safety PR issue.

Look at how US news outlets used Fallout's hacking minigame as coverage for Russian hackers or how an Indian TV show used GTA5's map as a overlay on a cop drama...

Just need one youtuber and then one media outlet to show it as "real crash footage".

 

Really excited for the future of tsw4. What lessons have you learnt so far over the years of the game and how do you see the game and routes evolving over years to come.
