Am I the only one who thinks it odd that we have obscure EMUs in TSW that only run in a small part of the country, but we totally lack fan favourites such as Deltics, Hoovers and Warships, let alone popular modern diesel traction (60s, 67s, 68s etc)?

No one travels the country in search of 380s...

Is it just that EMUs are simple and easy to make from a physics standpoint?

    No.
    I did.
Yes, but also they are easier to find source material for.

Surely it is much easy to find source material for preserved locos than those in regular main line service? To find out everything you need to know about Deltics you could just talk to any of the engineers at the DPS Barrow Hill shed and get hands on with the real thing.

I was referring to the route it would run on. I can't imagine there are any cab ride videos or Google maps/LIDAR data about routes from the 1980s. It is possible to recreate, but probably a bit more difficult than a modern day route.

I did not know there was a society whose sole purpose is the preservation of Class 55s.

There are a lot of cab rides and arial data from the 80s if looking in the right places. I believe the reasons why the 50s and 55s are not done as they don't sell apparently. The DB 218 just released is a visceral reminder of what TSW is capable of but we are left without some BR iconic locos due to the popularity of trains such as the recently released 380 which is what the market wants.

With modern EMU's, DTG can pretty much copy and paste sounds between the units. Then if we complain it's too quiet point out the driving cabs are not in a motored car or "like that in real life", like the Azuma. No reason why they couldn't buff the sounds a bit for entertainment, as we were just discussing in another thread they did with the classic diesels.

But sadly, aside from a few detail differences most modern EMU's drive pretty much the same, so much power and braking on the one handle controller it's virtually impossible to run late or botch a station or signal stop. Driving classic diesels, heritage DMU's with manual gearbox, is just so much more fun and challenging not to mention nostalgia inducing for 60 something year old farts like me, to whom Class 150's and 158's are still regarded as new trains (despite being over 30 years old!).

One issue with preserved locos is that getting sounds at high speed will be challenging. Max speed on preserved lines is 25mph - it won't give the full range needed.

Well the actual engine can be loaded up and down while stationary. There are companies such as Locomaster profiles who have "Wired For Sound" taken from railtour recording sessions who could be approached to help with sourcing audio.

The Deltic ran on the Transpennine route in its final days - and that's already in TSW. It's also operated around the country on railtpurs, including the ECML, MML etc which already exist.

Some DPS Deltics have been approved for mainline running. Preserved Hoovers also have - although not sure if any are cleared at the moment.

I wish they would name some of TSW emu railtours what they were called in the 90s - VegEx!

Just kidding - everyone to their own. But if classic traction doesn't sell, why have model manufacturers produced so many Deltics, Hoovers and Warships over the years? I think Lima had more 50s in their catalogue than BR!

I have asked that many times and I suspect its down to the modelling market and the sim market being different. I am one of the few who dabbles in both but most don't.

There is nothing wrong with releasing Modern Emu traction, but tsw really lacks of modern diesel / electric locos.

Well a almost complete scotrail fleet is also good for timetable variety.

I have said this, but it is a bit underwhelming when you find out there is a new 'loco' coming to the game just to find out it is another modern EMU similar to those already in the game. 'Loco' DLCs are a rare occurrence, one maybe 2 per year if we're lucky, and I just feel they should perhaps be locos/units which would add something new and different to the game and have a low likelihood of coming with a route. A couple of examples which would slot into current routes would be the 60s, 91s or 222s. All would add a new experience to the game (e.g. High speed DMU, Electric loco, new British freight loco!) and have been in high demand from what I have seen across the forums. I don't necessarily have owt against EMUs, they have made my life easier, but when DTG keep churning them out they become tiresome and so things need to be mixed up a bit, for example bringing some BR icons to the game, like the 50s or 55s. You can forget about the Warships: Western tosh! ;):D

I enjoy all the traction...seriously...one handled/two handled, electric, diesel, diesel-electric, steam. Plastic (carbon-fibre), steel, iron...I love it all. That said I will add that I'm utterly shocked that DTG hasn't put the 55 in play...that loco rapidly became one of my favourites in the venerable RW version. If I recall correctly, a Deltic (Royal Scots Grey?) was used hauling freight, filling in if you will, on some line c.2011, and there are at least two which are mainline capable. I would love to see a TSW model of one (complete with livery for each).

Apparently that is not what the survey revealed. It showed that the majority prefer modern shiny stock over thd older stuff.

Which is a shame, but at least we do have 3rd parties like Just Trains who are willing to take a stab at older stock and routes.

I believe Deltics were used on freight quite a few years after 2011 as well, possibly for stock deliveries as well.

Additionally, Virgin Trains hired one in the late 90s for a very weird Ramsgate to Edinburgh service that didn't catch on.

55022 saw some use on Freight and on Ramsgate services in the late 90s. However really the Deltics need a period ECML to feel at home. They also worked over the North Trans Pennine which we have in TSW.

I would love to see more period content, especially BR blue or sectorisation. It seems that DTG have deemed anything from BR to British Railways and before is not worth developing, therefore we are only likely to see modern trains in the main.

I do think the emphasis is too much on the railways of today, I think the beauty of a train simulator is replicating history and not just what you see today.

The only way we are going to see a Deltic, Warship or Hoover is if someone like Just Trains makes one, unless DTG decide to make one just as a railtour loco like they did with Flying Scotsman. So, hopefully JT continues with BR period content. I hope that one or more of the steam developers for TSC will eventually dabble with TSW.

I enjoy driving all trains, I have just bought the class 380 and it is fun to drive and brings something new to the Cathcart circle but if every DTG release going forward is going to be in a similar vein then eventually it will get boring.

They may run out of modern EMUs, some licences cant/won't be obtained which leads them into what next....Class 156 is one if the most obvious missing units which I imagine Scotrail if nobody else would be happy to allow to be released. Same with the Intercity 7. The 91 is one of the most asked for trains but no sign just yet unless it's on the way. Really unsure as to why DTG have this modern only stance when JT showed a BR route can be popular, just set it in an era with something that appeals to all. The Pacer was the clincher for many....

I think our best chance is with the third party developers where enthusiasm for the BR blue period is probably a driving force for the creation in TSW. I would say the same for steam routes and locos, but DTG have put the mockers on steam’s future, sadly.

First of all, i dont understand the "hate" when its about one handled EMUs. But its clear that something that calls itself "train simulator" should reflect all traction types which are at least very common, and those are Electric, Diesel, Steam. A Train Simulator should be able to represent all of them in the same quality matter.

Its DTGs position that grinds my gears, simply saying that only a modern commuter route (likey with a one handled emu) is the only thing that sells.

First of: thats not true especially if you have a look at the german content, where everything else besides EMUs is hot right now. A DB Br 111, although still in current use, is pretty much classic traction.

Secondly : its about the way its implemented, the forum has gone over this enough but its sad to blame the community when its really a testamented fail to say so.

Im too young to had the privilege to experience those classic locos and trains in my day, so im obviously striving to experience them in TSW (or if needed other Train Sim titles).

Give us Deltics, Ludmillas and Steamers !

There are people who really don't like modern multiple units, often throwing around the cliched 'plastic LOVE' descriptors, or any number of other silly comments. That said, DTG's output for TSW for the past few years has had very little variety when it comes to the types of trains being made. I don't think the issue is the MUs themselves, but the fact we don't seem to be getting anything other than multiple units is what's causing problems.

Nail on the head. Nobody would object to modern stuff if some older traction appeared. Even if it was on a more modern route, we have no class 56, 60, 50, 55, 37/0 they have all operated on the mainline across the UK in the last 20 years. For older routes 25, 26, 27 would be great and that's before looking at older DMU types. Why has the HST been reduced to GWR only. This is probably the UKs most iconic train yet its relegated to TSW first incarnation and hasn't been seen since. Collectors club etc is ok but if we have start adding stock in then may as well go back to TSC where its easier.

Although I'm one of those who has railed against the " one- handled" emus, I actually wouldn't mind them cropping up as part of a wide variety of stock from all different eras.

Why haven't we had any slam door electrics or electric locos? And where are those modelers at DTG who gave us those BR era locos in TVL and NTP?

These days DTG is just a conveyor belt factory of shiny, silent running 3xx emus like the latest 380. I bought it, didn't like it, went back to the 314 for Cathcart. But it would be fine if the next one was a 1st gen dmu or a 55 Deltic.

I seriously question whether DTG still has the personnel to develop older models. They certainly lack the will and the imagination, it would seem.

Giving us the 66 as the token freight diesel is not very exciting.

Thats exactly what i was on about. Im not really interested in "pLaStIc TrAiNs" myself but if other players are, im fine with it as long as all groups of interest are represented. Like others said, hope is laying with third partys. I'm German so can call myself lucky to have a developer like TSG making sure german Rolling Stock mostly hits the mark extremely high. And also seems to have a higher interest in older motion aswell. Im really happy UK classic traction fans can wait for JTs next creation, confirmed to be in the 80s. But would be good to see more of it nonetheless.
