I'm on series x and there is more stutter now the route has been updated and also looks washed out in places. Played it on tsw2 and it's butter smooth and the colours are richer and the lighting just looks so much better. I know we all see things differently but this version looks washed out and what's with the stuttering.
That's the result of the new lighting system that we will have to deal with. The new lighting system while better makes it too bright. It also ends up using much more resources compared to the old lighting
I'm currently watching British Ace's ScotRail Class 380 FIRST LOOK video, which is running on Xbox Series X. It doesn't seem too bad to me but I'm only 10 minutes in.
Did a run on the line last night on Series X and encountered no issues other than the blurry destination board on the 314.
Yeah.. and that destination board issue has been present for as long as I can remember unfortunately..... The update seems fine to me, although I'm on an Xbox Series S instead but yeah, lighting and all that seems fine other than the board bug mentioned.
On pc this doesnt exists the blurry problem and if you dind't like the new lightning buy a pc and you get rid of it in a few seconds. The new route looks on pc stunning and no performance issues either
That’s because for some reason the game is using the Series S build. Why isn’t there two separate builds? An S and X. I play on the PS5 and Series X and there’s definitely more noticeable pop in on the Xbox version.
Thats due to performance reasons i guess! There is a big difference between the consoles in general related to GPU en RAM. So the blurry textures is an example of reduction of usage of a console i guess.
Seems fine to me on series x, Glasgow station can be a little chuggy, but there is significantly more there now than there used to be.
Thanks for all the replies. I never understand why one series x performance can be different to another when we all have the same spec console. I get some stuttering coming out of Glasgow and then for the rest of the route I get the odd stutter here and there. Why would I have that if someone else on here says they have no problems even though they have the same console.
Yes the tod 4 lighting does give that washed out feeling. But have had the stuttering on Cathcart since the PS4 pro days for me. In my stream, von the PS5 yesterday I was getting it in a few places. Also framerate drops because of the 4 or 5 different 314 reskins that I have as well. Hentis
As mentioned in the other thread, noticed a lot of stuttering on the first run with Cathcart remaster yesterday evening. Could just be shaders recompiling but yes, think TOD4 and whatever other core changes have been made have caused a performance hit. But let’s face it, TSW has never been the best optimised game, stutters, rubber banding with sound distortion regular occurrences even on PS5 where there are no hardware differences as you would get on a PC.
I wouldn't say that there are "no" problems, it's more likely that some people are just more sensitive to it / be affected by it, than others.
The frustrating part is all the fixes possible for it via engine.ini on PC, by tweaking a bunch of the values which DTG stubbornly refuse to add sliders for to an "advanced" graphics menu, which would let console players tone down the nuclear apocalypse sun. I completely gave up on console and switched to PC in part because I like to be able to see the liveries on my trains, and not have them completely blown out in reflected white light.
Aside from individual sensitivity, the specific cause and impact of the issue can also vary. While certain stutters will be visible on all devices, other causes of issues, such as framerate drops, will be compensated for if an XBox or PS5 is hooked up to a 120Hz+ display with VRR enabled, as the synching of the refresh to the output framerate will cover for a lot of framerate dips..
I've done some services on Xbox Series X and it works well for me. I really like the route and the Class 380. I'm also enjoying the 314. The biggest thing that makes me smile is the sound mixing which, IMHO, is by far the best I've heard in TSW so far - there are so many little details. And there are lots of other things to like as well.
I’m yet to properly try it out but the brief time i have seen it personally I thought it was an improvement, specifically in terms of how the TOD4 imitates a graphics update sort of thing. did the ballast change ? I’ve heard criticism on the old one before the update some time ago and I’m positive it looked more maroon colour on the new update compared to the usual grey/black sort of thing.
We need the ability to adjust display settings. Brightness and gamma mostly. It would be a welcomed feature for many of us.
Played a timetable service at 7 a.m., Glasgow Central as empty as before. Route looked better than in my memories. So, not much impressed.
Glasgow is busy for me. But I've got the 380, which is what introduces the new timetable (I believe).
The route is significantly busier than it used to be, I'd be inclined to say it's as busy as it could get, at least on series X, without bring it to a crawl.
Whilst I think the route looks good, and I'm getting nice performance now that the shader caching is updated there was a very big problem when driving the Warship rail tour: the lighting at that time of day totally washed out the signals. I was getting AWS alerts and driving up to signals showing a little light but I couldn't tell what colour until it was far to late to do anything about a potential red. Lighting seems to be a big problem on the Unreal based TSW, along with the blurring that makes trackside signage difficult to read compared to Train Simulator Classic. I think Unreal tries to make things too pretty and doesn't work well with driving simulators. I hope DTG can find a way to improve things. A lot of work has been put in the the Cathcart remaster.
I'm on series x I've had a bit of stuttering but overall I'm enjoying the route looks much better now its remastered the route is alot busier which I like and the 380 is great to drive when the 158 is added it will make the route feel even better
