I noticed the new LIRR is on the PS summer sale and I would like some opinions. I heard it suffers from stability issues. Thanks.
Stability issues like what? I have it on the PS5 and have had no problems running it the time I have played it. Hentis
Biggest issue with the revamped LIRR is the safety systems. Yes, yes, yes it was all explained why at the time but doesn’t stop it being a right royal pain in the jacksie and ruining overall enjoyment of the route.
I'm gonna say this. It's genuinely one of the much better American routes for TSW and MUCH MUCH better than original LIRR. Besides the safety systems, once you get the hang of it it's quite enjoyable. I've hadn't had any issues regarding stability, I've did a lot of trips with only one crash. If you want to buy it you can, it's one of the American routes I can recommend
The safety systems are annoying and ruin the enjoyment for me. It's not that it's hard to learn just really freaking annoying with 4 different types of alarms blaring all the time, also the route has crashed a few times on PS5 because of the sheer amount of traffic
Weird as the crashing as so far (touch wood) Its not crashed. Although I suffered a crash whilst streaming yesterday afternoon on Penninsular Corridor for the first time ever!!!! Hentis
The last time I played LIRR it crashed on a journey service in the snow, all I did was tun the cab heater on lol, then there's Jamaica which is just a huge frame rate killer
As long as dtg hasn’t fixed the crashing issue around Jamaica, I wouldn’t recommend to buy the route. It’s not just an annoying bug, the route is unplayable in this stage. If it gets fixed one day (hopefully they don’t just ignore it in hope we forget about it) it would be definitely one of the better tsw routes, especially if you like commuter routes.
What crashing issue? I haven't had any issues around Jamaica and mind you I'm on PlayStation 5. If it was PS4 I'd understand
The " crashing issue " is not universal. Like Antony, I have no stability problems when running the route. The safety systems I have gotten used to and, although I would like every feature to be switchable, I can live with them in the same way that those playing German routes live with their alphabet soup of safety systems. I don't hear many complaints about SIFA, LZB and PZB, which I turn off when playing German routes because I find them indecipherable and I don't like being yelled at in a foreign language.
Lol gotta love the German safety systems lol. My PS5 set up is TSW 4 only installed on the default PS5 895 gb SSD. Every other PS5 game is on yhe 2tb internal WD SSD. PS4 tities are installed on a 4tb external HDD. It's also a disc PS5. Although I do wonder sometimes when TSW crashes on a route it could be because I am streaming as well (direct from the PS5 and not via a PC). I need to run the service that crashed the PS5 on Penn Corridor again but with out stre
The safety systems are nuts. I would hate to be a passenger in my driving cause I slam the brakes on quick to drop speed to get rid of all the alarms. Wish the safety systems would prewarn you of a speed change in advance. If that's what it's like in real life I'm amazed they can hire drivers. There must be a lot of commuters in USA that suffer sore necks from the public transit system
I'm sure all the drivers on LIRR are very familiar with the route and signalling just like drivers everywhere and they very rarely would need to brake hard. I'm playing the route regularly in TSW and I don't remember ever having to slam on the brakes. If you stay alert to the in-cab speed limits, you should not have a problem.
Huge fan. Luckily no crashing for me yet. Very rewarding route to learn. Once you learn the signaling and the route, you’ll know where to reduce speed to stay ahead of the safety systems that some people are so annoyed with. Probably one of the few routes where inclement weather is actually impactful. If you’re not going to want to put time into learning the route, that’s ok, but this might not be for you. You may not enjoy getting corrected by safety systems often. Ditto if you like to spend a lot of time a lot of time in external view. You need to be in your cab, focused, most of the time. I tend to find the whole experience pretty immersive. Also, busy route, lots of services; I think over 1,100. Can go to Penn, Brooklyn, Long Beach, Hicksville, Hempstead, Belmont; take your pick.
In summary I'm rubbish at USA commuter lines such as LIRR. Especially moreso now that it is actually busy. On PS5 and never experienced a crash yet. Excluding crashing my train into the backend of another train when I was not paying attention.
Am in the uk. Lirr 2.0 is actually 1 of american routes i actually play, due to how busy it is. Ifs good to see so many trains going out of Jamaica
I’m on ps5 too. I noticed as soon as it starts raining or snowing the game crashes around jamaica. Most of the time I play journey mode where it’s often rainy. Maybe that’s why I’m experiencing those issues
Do you think it's worth the money? Are you interested in the brand new train, overhauled m7, overhauled timetable and signaling, new graphics? Also the signaling and safety systems are required on by default due to mta.
I’m going to buy this later when I get home. I see it on discount in the PS store currently. Almost a £10 discount is too tempting to pass up.
I know everyone has different experiences but my personal feelings is this is one of the best US route ever. While I know people dislike the safety system aspect, I find it to be much more immersive and with practice and knowledge of the route, I often complete the route with no speeding penalties and on-time/early arrivals, so a short learning curve later I was fully immersed. Now, mind you I’m at 5000 miles driven at this point so I know what’s going to happen almost everywhere on the route (realistic to how an actual driver would learn his route imo). Lastly I will say the immersion and different outcomes in the timetable are excellent. I find myself just continuing this route over all the others, and the few times I’ve played other routes, I find myself quickly back on LIRR. Though I am from USA and grew up in NYC area so I am biased in that regard. there are some crashing issues for me, but they seem totally random other than it often happens with weather though for me mostly near Sunnyside yard as opposed to Jamaica. I’m on PS5, but it doesn’t ruin the experience overall, just slightly annoying at the time. Hope that helps
I had a bit of an arc with LIRR 2.0, made some big forum posts before I was actually done settling in, I've learnt not to do that now. LIRR 2.0's scenery, detail, timetable, sound design, and everything else is, to quote a certain popular UK motorist, 'It is fantastic. It's wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.' I agree with what other people have said, it genuinely is one of if not the best US route ever released. The final post I made on the matter however is one that I'll still stand by, and it's those bloody safety systems. Since I made my big wall of text once upon a time, I did actually get to learn the safety systems to the point where I can drive it without getting stopped. In fact I learnt them so well, I even by choice turned them on while driving on NYT. But I recall once saying something that I'll say again here: You cannot enjoy this route casually. The safety systems, especially in packed areas like Jamaica and the NY termini, go off so often and with so little leniency that you have to pay 100% attention to everything you do. At certain times I do like the full immersion, but a lot of the time I just want to drive and relax, and for that reason despite all my praise I still haven't played it since not long after it released. It's not a route for the faint of heart and it's not a route for someone at the entry level. If you are a well experienced player of simulators, if you don't mind the pressure and you really like getting fully immersed with all safety systems on at all times, then hands down make that purchase tonight. Basically, it's amazing, but know what you're in for driving wise.
I just bought this route, and I'm curious how the scoring penalties work. So, line speed is 60 mph, I was driving maybe 50mph. All signals ahead are green, but ATC (or ACSES, whatever) lights up 40. I acknowledge the alarm, drop speed under 40mph, but then it says "Driving over the speed limit" and I get no points. Is this normal? And how can this points penalty be avoided? Was there a reason for the 40 alert, and I missed the signs? Thanks. P.S. This is my 3 run in Journey Mode. First was the M7 tutorial, then the ATC/ACSES tutorial (where I was also heavily penalized for speeding, albeit never exceeded the line speed), and this is a night run through the snow. I thought the sequence in Journey Mode is supposed to ease me into the route, not scare me off.
(PS5) I think it’s a good route, I have nitpicks of course but overall it’s nice. The timetable is very good and there’s lots of opportunities for parallel running especially in the very busy peak times. Although, if you do pick it up I would avoid heavy rain and horrid weather during peak hours, for me the performance drops and often crashes mainly on approach to NY
Yes, it's normal to be penalised for a lack of psychic abilities, or route knowledge as the purists call it. In time you'll learn where you get pinged and slow down sooner.
I enjoy the route it’s mostly very well done , hopefully they’ll do some more patches for some of the remaining bugs . The timetable is amazing , and the variety of different services you can run .
