I went on a Javelin yesterday to Dover and imo Dovetail got the sounds absolutely spot on for the train with good volume and door sounds, the 801 is a good train but the sounds are unsatisfactory with the hum being quite silent after 60mph and the acceleration sounds not being as sharp. The ECML is a terrifically beautiful route to drive but the Azuma is really a let down in some ways.
Lately DTG have been pretty good at making trains, the 710 and 380 both feel fantastic although the 801 is quite lacklustre. It feels incredibly rushed. The traction sounds are unusually quiet and the sound effects for the switches and levers in the cab are incredibly generic sounding, compared with other EMUs. Even Rivet got that aspect right with their otherwise mediocre 170. It definitely needs a rework in my opinion, especially if the 800 family is to appear in a future route, which it almost certainly will considering how common they are.
They did say during launch that they are trying to work with hitachi to try to record a real life 801 but I don't think that's happened yet
They could at least boost the levels of the sounds they do have. I know there's the mod, but while that buffed the track effects a bit it seemed to nerf the traction sound even more.
I'm usually a person who likes loco/units to sound authentic, and I'm pretty satisfied with how the 801 sounds to be honest... Not really got any complaints about it in that regard. The only thing I'd like improved is the destination boards as the destination flashes by so quickly that you could barely just make it out.
