2 more uploaded from the Dean Forest Railway - 2 wagons this time. The first is a representation of the preserved wagon on display at Parkend Station - 7-plank 'Parkend Deep Navigation Collieries Ltd' No. 317. Since there is no 7-plank wagon available - (???) - I have repainted a LPC 5-plank wagon instead, numbered as 137 as a salute to the original. Next up is a wagon in need of restoration - E255252, a 12T Van (NTP) The weathering is a bit heavy on the rust, but otherwise...
The Motherwell Salmon was completed in half a day (second time around!) and has now graced the sides of a number of Class 37s. Here are 37311 'British Steel Hunterston' and 37314 'Dalzell' 37311 https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/153751 37314 https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/153752
A little aside as I explore the BR Blue workings around Thornaby Tees Yard and area in the late 1980s. All pics are NOT in-game! 08582 + 20119 at Thornaby 08816, in industrial use at Cobra, Middlesborough 20112 light engine at Thornaby 45104 + 20015 passing through Northallerton. Apologies for the awful shot, but it shows an unusual combo. I'm sure these were running light engine.
47310 at Thornaby with a very light freight! 47316+45128+45104 passing Thornaby from the TMD 37180+47304 at Thornaby accessing the TMD
A couple of dual-numbered locos - by request - now on the Hub. 37074 / 37198 https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/154076 37128 / 37215 https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/154077

Great models Dave. Thanks for the 'double-siders' and also for the light engine formations. Having the Peaks running about with other locos is something that I wouldn't have really considered first thing. The Cobra CL08 looks 'interesting'. I'm sure that that's something you could knock up in 5 minutes?
This may be very late, but do you know or remember the HSV Values for BR Green? like the green you use on those 20’s
Hi tomtrainboi, The shade of Green on my Class 20s is: H 80 S 60 V 13 It does appear a little dark at times, but it looks 'right' to me. Of course, its all in the eye of the beholder! Regards, Dave
A 'Preserved' theme next - after doing various bits from the Dean Forest railway, here are a few a bit nearer to home for me - the NYMR. 12139 in BR Black: 08556 in BR Green
Forgot to post this one! Mentioned earlier, 08816 was bought by Cobra, Middlebrough and painted into this light Green livery with no number:
TEA Tanker 87867 has just landed (July 2024) at the Dean Forest Railway and starts it life in preservation in a very scruffy state. The wagon is represented here in a much more presentable condition as it may appear in the near future. Well done to the National Wagon Preservation Group for saving this oily beast!
I've been wanting to do this loco for some time, but was put off because I would have to compromise using a Class 47 as the basis, but when I finally had a go, I was rather pleased with the outcome. Here is Brush-built D0280 'Falcon' in 2 liveries - first is the as-built Lime Green and second is BR 2-tone Green:
Final livery variation for 'Falcon'. BR bought D0280 from Brush in 1980 and after an overhaul at Swindon Works which included the replacement of the Vacuum brakes for Air brakes, the loco was renumbered to 1200 and painted in BR Blue. The loco ended its day on heavy freight, particularly Iron Ore trains from South Wales and was withdrawn in 1975 and cut up by April 1976.
Thank you Tom, I'm happy with the result. I think D0280 in BR 2-tone Green must be my favourite loco! Its now my desktop picture!
Returning to the Preserved theme - I realised just how much scope there is for individual locos within the Preservation world. Obviously, I'm limited to only a few classes, but stiil it'll keep me busy for a while. I've already done some preserved locos, e.g 08556, 37264, 47077 and 47401, but lots of 08s, 20s, 37s and 47s, as well as Class 101 sets, to do. I'm going to do a specific Preservation centre at a time. I've already done NYMR, so next up is the G.C.R, Loughborough. To start, here are 3 of their shunters: 13101; D4137 and 10119 (D4067)
2 Class 101 DMUs from GCR: The Green set 50321; 59575 (from a Class 111); 51427 The Blue set 50203; 59506 (from a Class 117); 50266
Well, a few things to update you with... The Preserved Railway locos continue with the uploads of D1501 and D3000, both based at Rowsley South, Peak Rail, Derbyshire. D1501 in BR Green livery. D3000, the first of the many in original 1952 BR Black livery. Notice the BR emblems are facing the wrong way. I'm not sure if this was an original feature and has been replicated, or if it is a mistake by the restorers.
I was not happy with D1501. The black headcode was not right for the current (2024) appearance, so I remodelled it using the WSR version with alpha-numeric headcodes. Much better, but shame about the headlight! This was followed up with something definitely NOT preserved, in fact not even existed. A What-if... this time what if BR had pursued the idea of a 'super' HST after the abandonment of the APT project. The APT livery looks rather good on the HST, especially the Power Cars.
Of course there were 2 livery variations of the APT, so Super-HST receives version 2, complete with black 'masks' and InterCity 225 lettering on the nose ends:
Finally, the APTs ran around with various Departmental coaches while testing, so why not the Super-HSTs also? BR Test Service Cars No.8 and No.9 both worked with the APT, so here is TSC No.8 in its RTC livery. I had a problem getting this into game and have had to 'borrow' a pic from an earlier coach repaint. Neither does it appear in TSW4 Formation Designer. I may have to redo this coach for it to funtion as desired.
The APT HST looks great. You're right the livery does suit the model. How about one of these XPT train power car - New South Wales XPT The 'stainless steel' coaches would be a different look for the game.
A heads-up on another thread about HSTs not showing in TSW4 had me check and sure enough, some of mine are affected. I have started to rectify the problem and the first 2 are done. HST 253001 in Black / Yellow / Grey https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/88108 HST 253002 in BR Blue / Yellow / Grey https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/creations/88107
A couple more sorted: 253014 - 43028 and 43029, the Power Cars in early InterCity and the coaches in Blue & Grey. 43049 'Neville Hill' and 43062 in BR Blue & Grey
Its the turn of 43116 and 43118. 'City of Kingston Upon Hull' looking wonderful again... W43125 and W43126 (253028) in BR Blue:
Final MML 43+8 uploaded today. This is 43159 + 43162 in BR Blue / Grey but with Test Car 10 in RTC livery.
With that little aside now done, I've been busy integrating a new PC onto my desktop (the real one, made of wood!) The new PC is a proper gaming machine (as far as I am concerned) and comes courtesy of the granddaughter's boyfriend. What a good lad! And what a smart move it has proved to be!. The older PC could barely run TSW4, in fact I couldn't run ECML at all! And Preston - Blackpool was almost as bad. But now, they are so smooth and I've finally been able to bomb down the ECML in a Blue & Grey HST. A BR Blue scenario was begging, so that's what I've been working on. The recent ability to upload Formations also gave me an idea and the scenario is based on various locos and stock seen at Doncaster in the early 1980s. I've dated it to a specific visit I made in 1982. But first, some stock is needed, so you will find on the Hub - for TSW4 only - 3 items of rolling stock: HFP 12T Van in Railfreight: HTP Class 08 08114, based at Doncaster TMD: NTP MK1 BG in BR Blue - Condemned
A Formation was formed (obs) of a train I had seen at Doncaster (albeit a few years later) - an 08 shunting condemned and new rolling stock around Doncaster station and the Works. The short train consists of NTP 08 08114; NTP MK1 BG BR Blue - condemned; TVL PGA; HFP 12T Van in Railfreight; WCL Turbot and TVL HEA.
I call this formation a "PINZA" in my TVL mod (Again you can see that you can get community liveries on some of these wagons). EDIT - Just realised that I've put an MFA in my formation rather than a Turbot. I'll get that changed immediately Sir
Have you had braking issues with the formations? I discovered with my wagon repair Formation that PGAs and 5 plank wagons don't mix brakewise!
Can I make a request to anyone reading this: I would like to relivery the WCL Turbot, but need the markings to be removed. If anyone knows how to do it, I would be grateful.
Not as AI but definitely "YES" with Player services. Sometimes the effects aren't too bad and you can live with them but, other times (like adding a BG to a DMU) it's a nightmare. I think you can improve things by putting the 'wrong' wagon to the rear of a formation. Might be worth giving that a go?
Re the "PINZA" formation I now have the following. A loose consist PINZA (where I note I have still forgotten to swap out the MFA). A single and a double PINZA - both hauled by a CL08. A large PINZA - hauled by a CL31. An extra large PINZA - hauled by a CL40 with added MFAs. Take your pick David
