We've got 4024 and 1116 (with weird LZB and AFB stuff, so not perfect, but at least sth), so lets dig into what locos and units would be nice to have in Austrian content to make it truly evoke sth of IRL picture when travelling around the country, or at least in the greater Vienna area - I dont have personal experience with what stock OBB uses in other regional networks, but since they are fairly standardized, I am going to assume they use this stock also in regions such as Tyrol and others Siemens Desiro ML - 4744 / 4746 / 4748 / CityJet Eco (not sure what designation this one has) - vmax 160 kph (CityJet Eco is 140 kph and 120 kph in battery mode) Easy to learn and drive (got a taste in TSC), with devillish acceleration and great typical sound... also has a handy feature - where you would usually have sth like "min" on throttle, this one locks the current speed in and holds it ... along with 4024/4124 it is the backbone of regional travel, especially in Vienna, at least until Mireos start coming: Which are basically almost same, just more energy efficient, more passenger features and I guess slightly different cab OBB 1144 "Herbert" (vmax 160 kph) You can still meet a lot of these, both in freight and passenger service... used to be the strongest horse until Taurus arrived... still powerful and with great acceleration, also mighty rumble (hence some call it "Vacuum cleaner" )... used in all kinds of services from regional express to "D" (sth like IC services)... recently I took the REX8 to Marchegg a couple times, with this one pushing like 5 CityShuttle carriages (1 of those is a cab car) - got to 40-45 towards the end of the platform, and very quickly to 80 in Vienna and 90-100 outside, and then very quickly to 140 kph... so old, but very fast still (tho the smell from the brakes was pretty bad lol - I usually sit in the first carriage in front of 1144, and with windows open... lol) CityShuttle carriages + cab car (vmax 160 kph) / Wiesel dostos + cab car (vmax 140 kph) You will find these mostly in regional travel... both are fairly fast, tho CityShuttles often dont have air conditioning, or a very basic one... Wiesels are slower, but very comfy cos of the beefy suspension... there are also those that underwent some nice rehauls, those have different seating and some added features and overall look... besides the IC coaches, these two thingies are most common from my experience... who knows, maybe in the next round, OBB will upgrade those dostos to 160 kph, tho not sure, since they also ordered some Stadler KISS 160 and 200 trains These trains/locos should make up a nice representation of Austrian regional rolling stock, tho they might occasionally be used for longer distances... since RailJet is sth we have yet to see and Stadler KISS trains are sth for the future, these ones might make Austrian TSW experience much more complete Bonus loco OBB 2016 "Hercules" (vmax 140 kph, mainline diesel) Hercules is mainly used on non-electrified routes or those that have non-electrified sections (which used to be the case of REX8, which had a couple km of non-electrified section between state border and Devinska Nova Ves station; it is undergoing electrification till this December, which is when Taurus will take over, most probably), but also in freight... sometimes referred to as diesel bro of Taurus, tho this one is weaker, obviously... but still decently nimble (once took a REX from Wiener Neustadt with this one pushing CityShuttle consist with cab car and it blasted its way 140 kph consistently till Vienna)... when it comes to mainline diesel, this one is fairly common around Vienna and surrounding area
Say no more ... You are right that I should have included also some stuff for lovers of older stock ... But pls, lets not go into 1044 (1144 is its improved and fine-tuned cousin) or such 5047 (vmax 120 kph) 5047 is mostly present on non-electrified branch lines, like Aspangbahn and others, sometimes as supplement to CityJet Desiro Classics... has a nice rumble and swiftness to it and is fairly comfy - for me, first two legs of Aspangbahn (Wien Hbf - Traiskirchen Aspangbahn and Traiskirchen Aspangbahn - Wiener Neustadt) would be awesome 4020 / 5040 (vmax 120 kph) THE face of Viennese S-Bahn until fairly recently (Desiro MLs started service around 2014-2015, I believe), and still used on regional routes (S3, S40 etc)... has a nice sound to it and is surprisingly nimble for such an old EMU... the only disadvantage for passengers is the lack of air-conditioning (mostly) and the fairly high stairs into the carriages
Soooo gooood razmatus#2517! Love these units ! Except for Mireos which I hate so much, like those SNCF Intercity (they all look like Yaris with those noses!). I'd also like to see more Austrian material in TSW. Maybe on Franz-Josefs-Bahn or something around Wien? You forgot the 1216 and... Railjet/Nightjet ! I can confirm that even in Carinthia and Tyrol the rolling stock is practically the same. You only see more locomotive-coaches services, especially on mountain lines. In general, more single-decker units. I also confirm that ECOs have the same 4746 designation. PS. I'm curious to see if RSSLO will make its official entry into TSW, in the August broadcast... There could be a new AT route and locomotive among those 5 "hidden objects"!
I havent forgotten about RailJets/NightJets, those I assume will happen at some point in future, as they are the flagship trains for OBB/Austrian intercity/long-distance travel I LOVE Mireos, they are almost same as Desiros, just have that angry look to the front face lol... like new Badner Bahn units: I mean, look at it, it is almost as if it said "I want to eat your soul" lol oh yeah, RSSLO do this stuff for TSC (but e.g. on Wien - Parndorf - Bratislava/Hegyeshalom they included 1144 but not 8033 as driveable cab car, thats why I didnt buy it )
Franz Josefs Bahn, I did a suggestion thread here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...s-bahnhof-tulln-an-der-donau-st-polten.82813/ as for Franz Josefs Bahnhof, that one has a special place in my railfan heart I see it literally every time I go to Vienna (plasma donation place is right across the road from it), so for last 2-3 yrs I have been watching the construction around it what is also supercool about it is that if you take any train out of there, next station is Spittelau, and literally the whole section is UNDER the massive buildings complex of Franz Josefs Bahnhof and its parts
