I like playing TSW4, but there are some features that I wish were in the game, or were changed to make it more enjoyable. I dunno if the team behind the TSW series will see this, but if so, then this is what I have. PS, This is mostly for the steam engines, as they are the main reason why I play this game With the Custom Livery option, I wish instead of having to use the general coloring option or even the shapes features to color parts of the engines that they would allow us to chose which parts of the engines to be a certain color. I've run into the problem of shapes bleeding through to other parts that I didn't want seen, so this would be a handy feature to have. Down below is an example of what I have been dealing with. In Free Roam mode, I wish it wasn't an instant game-over if you went past a red signal. If anything, I wish there is an option where the whole map is a free-for-all for exploration without having to worry about ending your session prematurely. I know it's to make it more realistic, but it's a feature I'm not too keen on. I wish they gave us more ways to interact with the steam locos. I know that so far we can drive them, load them up with coal and water and even add lamp codes to their irons, but what about cleaning out their smoke-boxes or oiling them up?? There is so much potential in features like that. Adding to #3, I wish there was a scenario where you can help a derailed train get back on the rails. I also wish that derailments didn't mean the end of the session. I mean sure, derailments are inconvenient, but hey, they happen sometimes on railways? Why cut them out when it would make the game more realistic? I wish there were more steam locomotives in TSW2-4. I know that diesels and electric engines are popular, but steam engines need more representation. I don't even care what country or era they're from, just lemme have them! That's all I have for now!!! If you guys agree, lemme know!! I still love the game, regardless of it's flaws, but it would still be great if features like this were in the game!!
I’m sorry to tell you that production on anything stream related in TSW has stopped indefinitely. If steam is your primary interest I’ll point you to Train sim classic which has many more steam trains from across the world and frankly has it better simulated. We’re stuck with what we’ve got.
I don't think allowing derailments to happen without ending the session would go against licensing or the tocs simply won't want it, who knows. It's why going past a red light ends the session right away.
Derailments end the session because how exactly are you going to continue after one? You have to give detailed interviews with an NPC from the RAIB? And while a one-off SCENARIO where a derailment has happened somewhere along the line and you're needing to work around that might be something you could reasonably expect, it's unlikley to get the approval of any of the operators of those trains.
I guess that's fair. Honestly, I think I might be way too interested in learning how British Railways operated during situations like that.
I do have that game, but the graphics aren't very good, plus the controls are kinda janky. May need to try it again at some point, if I'm feeling motivated to. Kinda sucks that the TSW team don't see the value in Steam Engines, but you are right when you say that we're stuck with what we got. Fingers cross that the team may change their mind one day.
I have seen this a lot and I do genuinely wonder what would be done after the train derails? In my mind you would exit the game and start again as there isn't much else you can do. As mentioned TOCs would flip over if 'their' trains were seen to be derailed, but also just the thought of the human impact real derailments can have doesn't need to be brought into the game either. Suppose these can be linked to the scenarios as well. There were a SoS scenario which had a train getting stuck in snow or something, if memory serves me well. So do I mate, so do I. How much I still hope for the East Lincs line with a B1, V2 and teaks, even after she abolishment of steam from DTG towers. They really need to buck their ideas up, as even diesels seem to be slipping away slightly.
Train sim classic graphics are not bad at all, the enhancements make it look better than tsw in some cases
I'm not sure how continuing after a derailment is seen as realistic, unless "wait 3 hours for a crane" as an objective is something that appeals to people, although even then a more realistic response would be tea and biscuits.
Train companies won't want to see their trains coming off the tracks even in virtual form. Doesn't look good for them.
the operator doesn't want anything bad happening to their trains so if they do see it they could revoke the license
The issue is that DTG have buggered steam physics in the game, this has already driven some 3rd parties away from steam.
Fast moving external camera on consoles. All other versions from TSW (TSW, TSW2020, TSW 2and TSW 3) had that feature.
I actually remember watching an old BR training video about what happens when a derailment happens. The process is actually pretty extensive. I can link it to you if you want!
I guess that makes sense. I mean, it seems unrealistic, given that.... well, accidents happen now and again, but hey, policies are policies I guess. Plus, I've seen all the purposeful derailments that people have done with TSW2/3/4, sooooo.....
I'd like to see the ability to import SVGs into the livery editor to be able to make better liveries. At the moment it's hard (if not impossible) to make realistic liveries because of the limited decals available. I believe Wayside Works is making that for TS. If you get the AP Sky and Weather Pack, you'll see the best TS has on offer. On a technical level the graphics aren't as good as TSW, with no true reflections and few advanced effects, but in practise TSW looks ugly a lot more often than TS. Part of that is down to the lighting, and the LOD can be blamed as well - there's not much that takes you out of the experience than neon trees in the distance. Generally I think TS has a more appealing colour palette and has better daytime lighting (read: not a supernova). The AP Cloud Pack is expensive but adds hundreds of randomly selected skyboxes which I have to say look a lot better than the volumetric clouds in both TS and TSW. I don't see why DTG went for volumetric clouds in TSW, the TSW2-era flat skyboxes had a lot more detail. As a side note, TS has much nicer water. I have attached some screenshots in the spoiler which I think show TS looking great should you be interested. Spoiler: Screenshots Note that the screenshots don't have the same colour depth and resolution as the base game, so they won't look quite as good. I also expect the forums will add even more compression to the already compressed screenshots. All except the last were taken on the route that I have been building for the last two years in my free time. The two steam locos are by Wayside Works and Bossman Games respectively and are great - the former is free.
Note, since you're new, its best if you want to replay to multiple messages at once, to use the +Quote feature.
I'd forgot about the sports train, still yet to see it on the ECML! You know what I may just have to watch that episode again, so much wrong with it but that makes it great!
