This, to me, is the key. Ever since Train Sim World 2 launched it's been touted that the PS5 runs on the 'high' PC settings, but TSW2 for PS5 came out 3 years ago now, when the RTX3090 was the top of the tree in terms of PC graphics cards. The RTX4090 came out 2 years ago and the RTX5090 is expected this year, but TSW will likely still be on the exact same pre-sets. The game should be moving forwards every 2 years, with the 'high' becoming the 'medium', the 'ultra' becoming the 'high' and new improved settings implemented for a new 'ultra'. At minimum they should be improving the pop-in without resorting to ini tweaks, the shadow pop-in on the track right in front of the train can't even be changed in the ini. Other than the imminent arrival of the PS5 Pro, the console spec stays static for 7 years, but this doesn't mean the game can't advance on PC. Nothing technical is holding back progress, it's just whether DTG thinks it's worth the time and effort pushing out the graphical capabilities.
But why do people claim this game is at its limits with PS5? Even a PS5 Pro and optimisations won't make it run like people claiming it would be. TSW2 on PS4 did not look like a PS4 game. TSW4 on PS5 still does not look like a PS5 game. It looks like a PS4 game at best. The PS5 can produce more than TSW offers.
Agreed. When metrics start being collated and the official minimum or recommended specs get updated, that'll be when I start getting more hopeful. It's worth highlighting a concept here I suppose. We have minimum and maximum settings and a host of permutations thereof. I wonder why the maximum is not elevated while the minimum stays the same. In order to loosely keep this on topic, if they did so, then the pricing point would be a good question indeed, right across the board.
Does this reflect from the winter survey on more expensive locos. Interesting to know how many put this as a high priority.
If your on steam it don't matter about prices , it's amazing with the heavy discounts for TSW , TSC product's.
TSC certainly seems to be getting a different batch of content on sale every week at the moment, though this weeks UW campaign the only one of theirs I haven’t got is Shanghai monorail, which doesn’t really appeal. TSW doesn’t pop up nearly as frequently though. Looks like the next one might be in September around the same time as TSW5 or whatever’s coming releases, then another fairly long gap to the late November autumn sale.
Funnily enough, I had an email from Hornby yesterday saying they’re going to have to raise their prices… What makes it worse is the quality Hornby’s models more often than not, don’t match the price tag. They cheap out on aspects. They’re the Rivet Games of the model railway scene in my personal opinion On the other hand, I do feel I get my value for money with Accurascale. My Deltic, Manor and Class 37’s have been wonderful runners! Got a few more models on order with them too
