You might want to contact DTG Support, if you haven't already. If there is enough evidence that you own the game, they might be able to help you. Typically they look at the app manifest, though, so this might be a bit trickier. Hopefully they can figure it out for you. :)

Of course, I have been reading issues with file ownership, so that's where that would pertain. If dealing with older versions, keep trucking along. :)

There was one above claiming inability to download a specific version. Which is not just the core but something like RW3, which isn't a TSC depot (anymore).

That was the idea, but I forgot to quote and might have misunderstood anyway.

Spikee1975 what do you (or anyone else for that matter) recommend as the most stable and user friendly version number to go with as my fully modded install? I don't care about the AHS stuff as I never drive it even though I'm pretty sure I own it, (assuming it was part of the free French content when Focus did their buy out).

I'm going to go for a completely new and clean install, it's long overdue my install is quite messy regarding 3rd party freeware and I've lost control of it (and my backups probably aren't much better), it does work ok but I'm sure it can run better. It needs to be done (boy, I'm not looking forward to the installer fest that awaits).

Nothing to do with DTG or Focus - it was a third party production from Atlantic High Speed
The same people/person who did the Atlantique High Speed released thru Just Trains.

I run the v72.3 which starts with the Peak, Lirr Emu & BR 612

Sorry to be a wisecrack :D

v72.3 came with Tehachapi, WCML South and Dresden-Riesa

Actually Patrick Millerioux who did the AHS stock made a lot of highly scripted and complex french locos (BB8100, CC7100 and others on railsim-fr.com)

I don't like reviving old threads but does anyone know what I need to put in to get TS2015?

  12. Spikee1975

Nothing wrong with bumping, as DTG refuse to pin threads here (and leave obsolete ones like the Raildriver.dll up). Stuff like the Buckeye coupler fixes thread should be pinned imho.

    The answer is here :)

    https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...t-your-favorite-menu-music.81612/#post-844049

It's easy, use SteamDB.info to get to the depot 24009 (core). Then browse history and select a manifestID of the version you want.

The one I bought included a DVD but you had to activate via Steam. I think the disk only features other software to make the game work on PCs of the day.

it's downloading now, thanks for the heads up. i'll let it finish then i'll try it before copying my content over.
Do i also copy RailWorks\steam_appid.txt and
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<yourID>\24010?

Just do what is explained. Userdata is not mentioned, and there is no point in copying it anywhere as there is only one location for it. You can make a backup if you want to of course.

Be aware that the previous version has issues too, and there'll be no support for it in case you're running into some trouble :)

The download location contains a fully working installation, that you can either fill with Assets and Content, move to another place, or copy over to your main installation.

All the disk does is confirm you have a license to use the software nothing else. It is not required to be inserted when playing the game.

I have the very first edition that came out and all predecessors of that as well my favourite one is the black box version with the steam train sitting as the sun goes down. Looks stunning. I even have my old MSTS cereal box version when it released on day one. All neatly stored in a box to keep them in good condition.

I know that. I bought the 2012 DVD on eBay under the note that, if the code activation didn't work (noting in advance the Steam DLC section I would show him if it didn't work), it was effectively a worthless product, I'd ask for a refund, and he could keep the stuff or throw it out. Thankfully, it worked, I showed the screenshot that it worked, gave the obligatory five star rating, and loaded up Castle Rock and its scenarios shortly after. :D

Make sure to run it directly from its folder by double clicking RailWorks64.exe (or make a shortcut to that on your desktop/taskbar).

    steam_appid.txt
must be present in the RailWorks folder else Steam will use the official path. If it's not there, just copy it from your main game.

You must have a New Shortcut to the downloaded version - and it must point to the version of Railworks64.exe in the New Directory.
Did you copy the steam_appid.txt from your current game folder to your new game folder?

I think you have to copy all the content over from the main version. Also make sure you don't remove it from your main install after doing so or it may not work.

Unless I misunderstand that sort of sounds backwards.

You started with a default Main Version, installed an Older version and , for some reason, you have coped files from the Old version to your normal Main version.

    What did you gain?

When I purchased TS 2012 it was also called Railworks 3 - was it the same when you purchased it?

I don't know if that is on the Steam DB

749006 is correct. It was called, I think, Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012 or something to that effect.

I checked again and yes, there is a code for TS2012 on the first page. RailWorks and RailWorks 2 are still missing though. Assuming there isn't another depot for them, I think it's safe to assume they are lost. I do have discs for both games, so if there's a way of theoretically getting the manifest ID out of the installers I'm happy to try it out.

    And the original: https://steamdb.info/sub/1684/apps/

Only accessible with the respective keys. A TS2013 key will not give you access to the original three "RailWorks" versions. From TS2013 onward, it has always been the same game and depots.

Or in other words, RailWorks owners were automatically entitled to download Train Simulator, but not vice versa.

I'm not sure that will work as they are not manifests. Could be wrong though.
I do have a RailWorks key so I would be able to download that.

You should be able to download a RailWorks core depot containing the initial route bundles, yes. (Core and routes were not separated back then.) I can't test it, no original RW key (got a boxed version of RW from eBay, but the code was already activated...)

I had to get a sealed copy. I think I paid £20 for it. The seller on Ebay was actually quite good to talk to, I helped him out with another sale later on as I knew more about TS than him.

I'm not sure the old RailWorks depot would work or if it would create a mess as it's using an older PhysX version.

When I tried playing TS2013 the game wouldn't start. The temp dump said something about memory allocations, and I have no idea how to fix that.

I bought Rail Simulator on Origin a few years ago and for a while it didn't work, but out of the blue it started working. It still has graphical issues (and doesn't support 16:9) but I'm genuinely surprised it works.

    Let me clarify something here.

If you have a boxed version outside of Steam, with no Steam redemption codes, then you will not have the ownership of those depots on Steam. That said, I can't speak for whether DTG would be able to take the evidence of a boxed copy and grant a user access to the depots without additional charge. I would think this is possible, but I cannot speak for DTG or their policies.

From TS2013 onwards, you would not have those depots. You would only get the base game and whatever DLC was included. So for 2013, you would get Sherman Hill, London–Brighton, and either Northeast Corridor/Isle of Wight or Munich-Augsburg depending on edition. ECML, GWML,and Somerset-Dorset were no longer included, nor was Cajon Pass and the fictional routes (the last of which were no longer purchasable and released on the Workshop for free under Matt's account with the addition of a steam-related water station or something to that effect). In 2014, the 2013 routes were removed and Donner Pass appeared with two others, and so it continued. I obviously don't need to go over this as most people know this, but just in case anyone doesn't, there it is. :D

What I know, from talking to an eBay seller and agreeing to purchase without shipping the contents (which also took the shipping costs off), was that the TS2012 I picked up redeemed as a Steam code. I took a little video for the seller, uploaded it unlisted, and linked it to the seller in a message to show it worked, leaving a five star rating at the same time. And that was that. :)

So the question pertains to the original Railworks and Railworks 2. Everything from TS2012 onwards seemed to have Steam redemption. Boxed versions might allow those owners to get the Steam keys, but that may also not be true because the same box could otherwise be used by multiple people. Perhaps it is tracked by CD codes. I have no clue.

You're not clearing things up mate. RailWorks has been tied to Steam since day one.

Box Editions were meant for collectors and people with low internet bandwidth back then - requiring Steam activation nevertheless by providing a key.

On a side note the boxed version of RailWorks was great. The cardboard sleeve had lovely moody artwork of the Class 37 at night, and the game came with no less than four manuals. The CD key being stuck on the back of one of them was a bit crude though.
