Noticed the other evening putting mouse over cab controls was not displaying what the button/switch does. Went into Options and found the radio button was unticked. Ticked it, hit save. Next time I loaded up TSC back in a German or Japanese cab and same again, found hovering mouse over a switch didn’t flash up the information. Back into Options and, yes, the Show Tool Tips box showing unticked again. Ticked and saved, will see what happens later but does look like there’s a bug for the coders to look at.
Have never encountered this. The config is stored in Content\PlayerProfiles.bin. Is this file write-protected by any chance on your end?
Shouldn’t be but will check later. As suggested sounds like a job for a ticket, as I doubt DTG actively monitor these forums.
Can confirm last night back to unticked. Bin file definitely not read only or write protected, seems to be losing the setting on exiting the game as ticking again then loading a run within the session had the tips appear. Final check this evening then ticket time.
I wonder if the last update changed something I used to see the descriptions when holding the mouse bit it stopped recently.
Interesting. Two differing experiences. One more trick to try later is open the bin file with RW Tools and see if I can find and change the value with that.
Scenarios can alter some settings, simple / expert controls is one rather well known, but saves also include Auto Fireman and upon reloading, it restores that state. I checked mine and it is on. I've been playing Production branch, Hamburg-Hannover, Ohio Steel and today a RG SD9 scenario. You might have a script or something like RWE that keeps setting it - if nothing else than prepared QD scenarios. Does it also happen if you play some "innocent" factory career scenario? (Having a minor confusion as I may have a setting called Hints. Gameplay tab, second or third. For absolute clarity, is that the setting?)
Well would you believe it, opened TSC and the setting has remained ticked this time. TS Tools also shows the relevant entry in the bin file with a "1" switch against it. Intermittent bug it seems, the worst kind. Anyhow with regard to triznya.andras question above, it's the highlighed setting in the image below I'm referring to:
With the Auto Fireman thing, the settings did save, however loading the scenario has overridden this setting. I assume there is no scenario level setting, same with controls, it's one big global thing. So the verification is, open game, check settings, play scenario, check settings, re-tick if needed, exit. Whenever it goes away, the scenario you played is the culprit. In theory, you may have a conflicting profile on Steam that keeps overriding yours, but that sounds a bit odd, too. Likelier if you play offline, or keep switching networks (LAN / wifi, I had sync issues about 2 months ago).
Maybe a scenario script can override these settings, though I am only aware of it changing Simple/Expert mode. Apparently there is a glitch in TSC that allows a scenery tile containing a PlayerProfiles.bin to change your settings, it happened on a SimTrain route (Lötschberg) as the only example so far... Vern, which scenario where you playing? Looking at its ScenarioScript.lua will solve the issue. (That's why it is so important to always give steps to reproduce a bug.)
No complex LAN setup. The PC is jacked into the BT Home Hub between the Ethernet ports and cable, everything else around the house is connected wirelessly. TSC is installed on the laptop but rarely used and then only for editing as it sends the fans into overdrive and pees the missus off royally. Scenarios… Forest Rail think it was the first one in the list, same on Tadami though it might have been the third one there. Anyhow it does seem the easiest solution if it’s not working, is to save the game, dap out to the menu and tick the box again.
I will just play a random Forest Rail scenario and see if it happens there. Playing 3. CS late Return Hints still active. Sorry, cannot reproduce this.
Bumping this slightly as I just ran into a similar issue trying to disable auto coupling due to a stubborn recoupling on Woodhead Blue after detaching some bank engines. Started TSC, unticked auto couple in Settings, loaded the scenario but on releasing the brakes and taking power the train eased back a little which was sufficient to touch the uncoupled Class 76's and reattach. Went back out and called up Settings where auto couple was once again shown as ticked, despite having saved the change. It appears the only way you can get Gameplay option changes to stick is to exit TSC and restart the game. Have done that and auto couple now shown as unticked, so about to test the theory in the scenario once more.
Strange, as I have not experienced this. Whatever you change in the settings will instantly land in a file in the "RailWorks\WriteCache" folder, so even when TSC crashes your changes are saved and applied on the next start / correct shutdown, stored in PlayerProfiles.bin. There is however, a tiny chance that a very unlikely issue arises. SimTrain.ch released a DLC recently, the Lötschberg route. Users reported that their game settings changed after playing it. The reason was, a PlayerProfiles.bin xml blueprint was somehow hidden inside a Networks\Roads tile. How that happened is a mystery, because it had a proper tile filename. But unserzing it showed it was a player profile, not a road tile blueprint. (Just saw I've repeated myself, been a while... )
Apparently not worth the money. Sloppy route building, you don't want to be thrown around in the cab because of missing superelevation in a TS 2024 release. Random user review from rail-sim.de Hello everyone, I bought the route quite soon after it was released and was bitterly disappointed. I had expected much better for over €40. This has not changed even after the update released some time ago. The track layout is catastrophic in places, with hardly any superelevation and lots of swerves in the track that would derail any train traveling at the permitted speed of 80 km/h. Either the specified speed was set too high or the curve radii are far too tight. This is particularly blatant between Goppenstein and Brig. The scenery is quite nicely reproduced and the rolling stock supplied is ok so far, but this does not compensate for the poor track construction and the poor sound quality. I strongly advise SimTrain to thoroughly revise the route, otherwise it will be a flop! X( Best regards Your Lirex! Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
