Where did they get those prices from though? Can't see any pre-order, and don't think they are officially confirmed, so is it just a guess?

They have to make money somehow, we've had only ONE UK route DLC from DTG since last October.

I guess TSW5 will be top notch, bug free with a several hundred mile detailed recreation of the West Coast.

They've been quite obviously been busy working on it since TSW4 came out. It might be the new business model. An annual new game. One DLC somewhere after 6 months.

I originally thought suspension was taking up all this time, but perhaps not being as only a handful of the fare was upgraded.

There could be some sarcasm there. Anyway, I've got the popcorn ready and waiting for tomorrow.

We find out in around 36 hours, but wondering, if the "rumours" are correct, the deluxe edition could contain Goblin and/or JT Blackpool to tie into the DTG main UK route and the JT route. Or the Deluxe includes the new JT route.

  4. Even after all this time and with plenty of empirical evidence to the contrary, l hope for my own personal self interest that its not just TSW4 with a small patch (if any at all), locked behind another paywall with some DLC that could have been part of TSW4 in the first place which I may not want but which I'll have to get in order to buy the dlc which I might want in the future.
Actually, for me personally, I dont 'have' to get anything. Im still happy with TSW3 and havent seen any compelling reason to migrate from that yet. I appreciate others may feel differently, but I wonder how many more might be carried along without the paywall model..

As I said in the Direct thread, I have more content in TSC and TSW4 not to mention various other games, that there really is no compulsion to buy TSW5 unless there is a significant wow and must have factor to it. I’m certainly starting to consider if a one handled WCML from Euston to MKC, an extended Koln to Aachen and Metrolink 2 fits that category.

We certainly need those prices peer confirmed but it has created a little bit of angst in the final 30 hours or so to the big reveal. I’m kind of hoping there is a Martyn Lewis effect here, who a couple of weeks ago was preaching UK energy price cap could go up by 77% in October, the reality now looks to be 9%.

  7. I'll add to that Wow factor point with "from launch". We've fallen for promised features that are 'not quite ready' before.

There's no difference between DTG ignoring 118 pages, and ignoring 200 pages.

Its just getting out of hand, games are just getting more and more expensive yet there is no justification for it. TSW5 will be 90% the same as TSW4. Its the same with other games such as EAFC 24 and the F1 franchise. They just copy paste every year and milk everyone for their money. Its crazy.

Mr Lewis was saying no such thing this year. You were watching/reading something that was actually from a previous October prediction when it did go up by a massive amount. It’s so easy for misinformation to spread online. For TSW it’s just best to wait for the actual prices to be announced before going off on one based on unconfirmed leaked or guessed prices.

Actually you are right! I had that previously off my missus who then denied vehemently this morning she had ever said that.

And yes I will be taking a view of the packs in terms of content and any discounts as the actual DTG info emerges. If as existing users with a pre order we can get the Standard pack for £32 or even £36 then that’s not bad for three new routes, even if they are what we think.

Epic database suggests pricing will be as follows, with a release date of September 17th:
    • Train Sim World 5 – Standard Edition: £39.99 / €44.99 / $49.99
    • Train Sim World 5 – Deluxe Edition: £59.99 / €74.99 / $74.99
    • Train Sim World 5 – Special Edition: £104.99 / €119.99 / $119.99
For reference to TSW4 - Standard edition is the same, deluxe is +£7/€10/$5, Special is +£15/€15/$10.

Worth bearing in mind that you'd only have bought the Special edition last time if you wanted a package of additional older routes - all of the new content was available as part of the Deluxe pack.

Furthermore, there was a pre-order discount of 25% for Steam purchasers if you owned TSW3, and 5 days early access for Deluxe/Special editions.

Honestly - the pricing isn't vastly different, there's been no 'huge' jump, I'm not at all concerned about pricing, more about content and whether the routes look any good this time around!

Even stuff that gets put into the "We'll add it within two-three months of release" bracket gets a "I'll believe it when I see it" comment from me now.

Heh, 10-12 months? TSW4 went into panic discounts a month into the release, those of us who bought it for full price were utterly and totally stupid.

So you are saying that I should wait for a period of time before purchasing TSW5? This graph is for Steam though, I use PlayStation

On Playstation TSW4 was £32 for a pre-order, £40 for full price, £25 for Black Friday, so I guess it depends whether you want to save approx £7 or play it 2 months sooner, or even wait until next summer when it will likely be 70% off again.

Well, I'm on PS5 and 9 Euro for Deluxe some weeks ago was a fair price for me although I already owned the Dresden route. Vectron was a must for me and the Scotsman is a nice to have. I'm planning to do the same with TSW 5. No need for TSW 5 in the next couple of months.

The minimal hud was a TSW4 launch feature....but it took them a little bit to remove that intrusive traction lock indicator from it

It's easy for me. If there is something I really want on day one, I'll buy it. I'll even preorder it to get whatever discount they offer (Though as Swiss prices are 33% more than Euro Prices despite the exchange rate being almost 1:1 due to Steam unfairness, that still means I'm paying more than full price).

However, there is not much on my 'really want' list, Certainly a short bit of WCML is not enough. (I don't gamble, but if I did I would bet it is Euston to Milton Keynes). A German route that went through Berlin Hauptbahnhof would be a must buy as would Riviera Line in either the 60's, 70's or 80's - Throw in a Paxman Valenta HST in the Deluxe Pack and I won't be able to handover the money quick enough. I suspect I won't be seeing any of that in TSW5 or whatever pack is announced tomorrow. I have loads on TSW and TSC that I haven't driven yet, so I can wait.

Interestingly I went through my Drivers Log Book last weekend to see how much I've played the TSW4 Core Routes (Standard Edition). Less than 10 hours in total. I have 3 times that amount in Blackpool Branches alone. So even the argument that it's good value for 3 routes doesn't really work for me.

Can't even summon up the enthusiasm to watch it live tomorrow. I'll catch the fallout on this thread afterwards.

Love the game, but it peaked at TSW2 Rush Hour, the new core features don't in my opinion justify a new paid title every year, especially when it takes all year to actually get all the features out (and the editor still can't cook). Best I can hope for is a free core update and then purchase the rest in a sale, hopefully sometime before JT's next route comes out.

As for new features, I hope we finally get the option for configurable controller input and ideally an api like the one in TSC so that we can read the state of the game externally. That's about all I want.

Assuming it has a similar amount of content as the same bundle TSW4 had, it will be 7 or 8 routes and two locomotives, which would normally be around £240 to £270 as separate DLC (assuming no increase in DLC price) and will include the base game, £105 would actually be very good value. It could have a bit less or a bit more content than last year but it’s likely it will be around the same level.

But hey, let’s not consider what you might get for that money before complaining about it. That wouldn’t be the forum way.

£105 special edition is mainly for newcomers who don't have many routes so to most of us we won't be looking at that edition anyway.

Could be worse Sony want to charge £60 for the Until Dawn remake which is just a graphical overhaul

Let's take a look at what I'd pay for......

TSW Annual release with a UK NW Home Counties electric route (including a suburban unit, an express unit and any other recently released units that'll work on metro services), a couple of Berlin S-Bahn services, something from the US (I won't care)
With extras of: Class 91 for the ECML that also layers HSTs in at last. London to Shoeburyness line circa 2002. An new ICE unit for various German routes and a Class 730 for Birmingham Cross City and any other lines it might be useful on.

I'd pay £150 for that lot.

You would have to pay me £150 for that, how's about DTG start doing more transition era stuff. Blackpool Branches worked as it had the noisy diesels and the more modern DMU. No more 2024 offerings that you can walk onto in real life thanks...

I mean the new TSW itself, the UI and menus, features and Training Center. Not as exciting as the content but it is still a thing that you get and indeed need.

There is no indication DTG have recanted their current stance on steam traction. i.e. not doing any more.

Is West Midlands transition from 323s to 730s not enough? I picked 2002 era LTS to capture the transition from slamdoor stock to the current units and the HST to ECML so that route becomes one going through transition. I too prefer a choice of old and new stock and my selections, whilst not your area of interest, were all picked to satisfy my love of transition era stuff.

If they do the 730's I wonder if they'll add the built in stuff ups that West Midlands Trains have turned them out with like the geofencing that makes the rear doors not open at many stations

Your probably right on the 730/323 transition. TBH I am pretty much chucking TSW in the DB routes only and then only if discounted. The UK routes are just not interesting enough to keep going back to so the thought of paying £100 plus is not likely.
