I'm surprised it's not been mentioned in here yet but apparently there's news on Tuesday regarding Train Sim Classic.
Do we think this is a major core update, new features or are DTG.....gasps...making some new routes and/or traction for it after a significant hiatus?

We'll just wait and see. Speculations only lead to a TSW style forum.

I did see the announcement. But after the developers update on the core code optimisations that were abandoned, i guess i’ll just wait and see.

Probably more core updates followed up by announcements of 3rd party content.

I think they are going to announce the discontinuation of the product because you guys only buy stuff when it's on sale. LOL.

Yes, guilty as charged. I am only interested in US stuff which I almost always buy at full price within a day or two of release right after the "experts" get done telling me how horrible the product is. LOL.

I'm usually a release day shopper when it comes to routes I like. Loving everything around the world, just rediscovered the south african routes (did some fixes on the rolling stock, applied reverse azimuth US AP skies) and really enjoy them.

Sales mostly used to mass pick up rolling stock or completing the Marketplace collection (damn you brits got an awful lot of coaches).

The original Railroad Tycoon had better graphics! I hope Sid Meier is getting his cut of the non profits to be generated.

Another DTG stream means yet another day TSC is forgotten. :(

At least Train Sim Steve still cares! :D

I kind of like it, as it leaves room for imagination by using "symbols" instead of full depictions, which is very important for kids and can create a bigger immersion than a true to life route where you will inevitably start comparing things and find fault, whereas the symbolism (like Minecraft) lets your imagination shape the world, which can often be more immersive than any realistic graphics. That's primarily because our brain works using symbols, that have properties assigned from our experience.

TSW5 not for me, no way do l want to install all my TSW4 content into the new game. I have bought everything until now! My computer overheats as it will take me about 4 days to install it all on my slow internet speeds. Why can’t they make it like TSC and just change the name keeping all your content looked in.

The free starter pack just upgrades the core to TSW5 and lets you play your previous TSW routes. It doesn't include any routes (except maybe the training track).

It will be available for 30 days after release. After that, the only way to upgrade will be to buy one of the bundles.

The only positive thing in TSW5 is Just Trains are making a Class 87 for WCML over Shap

Well, got that wrong then didn't I? :D:D

Seriously I'm not surprised in the slightest..

    Regarding the cringennouncement video:

Did I understand right that TSW2 and 3 players will get legacy DLC for free now? Kick in the teeth to those that paid for it if so..
Also has no one else spotted the fact that this 30 day "free starter pack" upgrade thing is just a dik move on DTG's part to stop people waiting till the sales and some of the bugfixes (let's face it there will be loads) being fixed and even waiting for decent time served feedback before committing, it's just upgrade straight away or lose your old content.

Anyway this topic is dead here now as it's not the TSW forum, I don't know where the OP got his original thread title concept from but it should teach us not to put any weight into a post that has "apparently" in it!

What are the plans for TSC now? Is it obsolete or are there any plans to further develop and improve it? I thought there may be some news regarding the headlight flare bug in the latest stable version. It would have been great to see DTG create a new route for TSC like the good ol' days. From the looks of it, it looks like there is nothing in the works from DTG regarding TSC. I hope I am wrong about that though

TSC is a cash cow. Dont expect DTG to spend much more money. ATS is the most likely best place for DLC going forward. I perceive TSW to be the new method of piecing together DLCs. This way DTG can make more money with 50 mile stretches pieced together with the quick connect method.
    Respectfully

When TSW allows for custom routes/scenarios/rolling stock, i will consider moving over. And i doubt that ATS will start making non-UK content anytime soon so you can't say that it will be the "Best Place for DLC".

Keep up Gary it's TSW 5 :D (quick get it right now or it'll be 6 if you blink)

But no my point was if you do choose to buy 5 then you'd better do so within the 30 day period or you will lose the ability to play your existing purchased DLC on the "new" ? version.

Will I get it.... *sigh*... I honestly don't know, there are a few features that are tempting but seeing as we haven't had any prices yet then it's hard to say whether I'll justify keeping my legacy DLC or just wait it out till a "get it for a fiver" sale like I did 3 and 4..

Thank God I'm a millionaire Rodney.

No, you won't lose anything if you don't buy TSW5 within the 30 days where the core is free for existing owners of previous iterations of TSW.
If you don't take the free upgrade, you will still be able to buy TSW5 and have access to all previously purchased TSW routes (excluding the NYC NEC route + switcher loco from TSW 2020).

    Prices are:
Standard edition £39.99/$49.99 with core update, training center, WCML London - MK, San Bernadino line and Frankfurt - Fulda
Deluxe Edition £59.99/$74.99 with the above + Class 390 Pendo, BR 193 Vectron Flixtrain, Kassel - Wurzburg and Cajon Pass (5 routes + 2 locos).
Special Edition £104.99/£119.99 with Deluxe edition content + Bakerloo Line, NY - Trenton, London Overground Suffragette Line and Bremen - Oldenburg (9 routes + 2 locos).

Them pretending that TSC does not exist on the Dovetail Direct was really concerning to me. OldVern with his announcement to take TSC off his harddrive to make space for TSW 5 was the icing on the cake. As I´m struggeling with other issues in my life right now, I really started thinking about taking a step back from the route editor for a little bit and see how things pan out the next couple of months.
I´ve completed Harznetz Phase 1 and uploaded it to Railsim. That was my big goal and I know a couple of users on this forum also downloaded the route and enjoyed it. That makes me happy.... but as of the other team members of Harznetz are also disheartend by the increasing TSW hype, phase 2 or even 3 are up in the air right now. I think all TSC creators are asking themself at this point, if they are playing on stage to no audiance and if moving forward even makes sense.
I´m definitly putting things on hold for a while and taking care of other things... I have been hoping for Frankfurt-Fulda on TSC for years and I even considered doing it myself at some point. Now it´s announced for TSW 5 and it does look really good. Today, I´m a little concerned about the commerical future of Train Simulator Classic.

I wish I could remember which one of the DTG team said it but I distinctly remember one of them saying "And we'll also be bringing you news on Train Simulator Classic" prior to the Dovetail Direct stream. But there wasn't any.

I would say this is a bit pessimistic; yes TSW is more popular than TSC but the thing is it always has been… and that hasn’t really put off all that many developers. Most developers working on TSW content also continue to work on TSC stuff as well; for example Just Trains.

TSC is a niche community compared to TSW but TSC still has an audience that’s for sure; as there is a lot more you can do with TSC than TSW in the ways of DLC and modding goes and many other aspects of the game.

Many of us still fork up money for new TSC releases either on or off Steam so it is still a money maker for developers; and if not some do it purely for passion over money with lots of high quality freeware stuff out there.

Also TSW always updating to a new version each year in the form of a “new” game at a higher price with new features that mostly could’ve been added as a regular update to a previous version does put off new & old players with TSC having the benefit of you never have to purchase a new version of it and everything you own for it will (usually) always be useable over the games life. This business model appears to be like DTG digging themselves into a hole; as each new TSW release the complaints about it grow and grow. TSW also appears to be rather un-accessible for developers; mostly new ones as it seems you sort of already have to be a pre-established popular TSC payware developer to be able to publish big things for TSW. I may be wrong as may have not been looking in the right place; but I have seen little to no third party off Steam TSW Locos & Routes. Again for developers the game having a brand new version released each year may be a pain especially for route development; and may hurt overall sales since eventually what they made will be redundant unless they make a remaster.

Can’t deny though that TSW massively overshadowing TSC will always be a bit disheartening. I remember a time when the TSW YouTube Channel was once the TSC / Railworks channel; if you go to the TSW channels oldest videos you can see lots of old TSC / Railworks DLC advertisements, showcases and trailers. TS2014 even got the sub-title of “The World’s Favourite Train Simulator” in its trailer at the time.

Is it possible that the TSC announcement is so monumental that it warranted its own Dovetail Direct event? This could be a game-changing reveal, following in the footsteps of other major announcements like this:

"We proudly present TS2, the much-anticipated successor to TS Classic. We know you've poured a significant investment into your collection, and we're here to ensure that investment isn't left in the past. We’re committed to preserving the ecosystem that TSC created while propelling it into the future!

In TS2, we’ve thrown out the old graphic engine and replaced it with cutting-edge technology, all while ensuring full compatibility with your existing collection and retaining all the beloved tools. But that’s not all—we've completely revamped the User Interface to get you into the cab faster than ever. We've also introduced a flexible Quick Drive feature, allowing you to run Real-Life schedules in Real-Life environments, along with Route Chaining and a Live Map to enhance your experience."

Oh well I better keep dreaming..... :):)

It was a tongue in cheek comment and what I really need to do is upgrade my PC (or replace it) in readiness for Win 11 including adding more hard drive capacity. There’s also titles like Derail Valley or even SimRail which I would remove before TSC.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying TSC and TSW take up a massive amount of HD space even compared to something like MSFS. Probably in excess of 500Gb of data between the two. Despite my spring clean of TSC a few months ago a lot of stuff has crept back on there I’ll probably rarely play. I am still playing TSC probably slightly more than TSW, but got to admit while the three official routes with TSW5 are moderately compelling, the prospect of WCML Over Shap coming from Just Trains, the Cardiff Valley network, the Dutch route and other forthcoming content are going to prove a mighty draw.

So TSC is not dead for me by any means (though MSTS, Open Rails and Trainz are now gone) but the balance is likely to shift significantly in the next 6 to 12 months Inthink.

Yes, I was kind of happy but also very sad for TSC at the same time. The british and german route are ten times more compelling to me than the TSW 4 stuff. Really strong annoucements. I´ll give them that.

They could have knocked it out of park by including the underground S-Bahn Line from Offenbach Ost to Frankfurt on the Kinzigtalbahn. At that point I would have caved in and ordered the Deluxe editon.

Is this really the end of TSC? I have invested so much money in it, and I am currently building a personal track.
