So the ECML diesel pack has been announced and it is not at all what I expected. It'll be nice to have blue/grey MkIs but not really sure what to say so I'll let the screenshots do the talking: Edit: Something in my head were telling me something strange were happening and then I remembered, this is what the loco looks like as of this year. Just really makes it seem like a strange choice personally: Class 47/4 47484/D1662-'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' - RSS Rye… | Flickr
Like the blue and grey mk1s. Will be interested to see whether the 47 is a complete remodel or if it’s just a livery…
It’s looking like Jane is back from Skyhook so I’ll be immediately tempering expectations. Looks like a small team & already they’re talking about various locos & routes in development.
Yes as I said in a thread that they themselves set up there is a lot of ambition and I'd much rather them under promise than over deliver, than get hopes um with promises, to then never deliver them.
In any case this wasn’t what I was expecting either. Some diesel thrash along ECML will be nice, I think the 801 is abit muted & leaves something to be desired. Im not sure how many runs you could get out of a railtour though, likely only going to be a couple of services (if it isn’t just scenarios). Something that is a breath of fresh air is that older stock seems to be on the uptake. I’m as much a fan of the ultra modern as anyone else, but it gets abit stale when you’re always in an insulated cab with the same screens as something else that just released. Finding a way to slot some older BR stuff into a modern route is a decent compromise, especially if it’s done realistically & not shoehorned like the Legends of the Great Western pack.
B/G Mark Ones welcome though as third party will be interesting how these will layer into future DTG Classic era routes or those from other third parties. Had really hoped this was going to give us a Deltic so yes, a Class 47 reskin a tad disappointing.
Not what I was expecting or hoping for, but given that my wallet has already gone into hiding after seeing the roadmap, that’s no bad thing if I don’t get this. I’m not really fond of the ECML (TSW4 had the worst set of base routes of all TSWs in my opinion), So a rail tour pack rather than something different that would really add to the timetable is not going to appeal to me, even though the 47 does look nice in that livery.
47 is a remodel, the marker lights are different and it mentioned the cabs were mismatching (as it is irl)
If not a remodel, then at least an upgrade of the first version. This one has the NTN ariels and the ETH receptacle box is in the older cab front position; as well as the flush marker lights. For me (that prolific reskinner!), I'm hoping there'll be a version for Livery Designer, without the 3D nameplates, plaques and numberplates.
This 47 was withdrawn in the mid 90s, has sat in a haulage yard since then and hasnt turned a wheel , its a strange choice for modern day ECML as although 47s do operate (Thunderbird and charters) there isnt one in GWR 150 Green let alone one thats been stored unservicable for decades. Feels like a random choice.
Random choice for sure, but it'll definitely be a nice addition! Such a shame the real life one is just stored and abandoned. Seems as though it will be available to use on other routes aswell, which will be great!
Sometimes it's as simple as a project of passion or being very accessible. Might just be the one closest to the office so it's easy to pop over and do measurements/pics/etc. Or someone has a book on it on their bookshelf already ;-) I really don't mind the Class 47 and people have almost come to blows over even different shades of colors being "entirely different locos" so this seems unique enough to be enjoyable. The team is claiming it's "more detailed" than other 47s so.... who knows? Can't really judge until I see it. Maybe it's coming from the US with huge fleets of pretty standardized engines, but I don't NEED every tiny batch of locos in game to enjoy it. If the loco that had 20 produced isn't all over the game that seems "realistic" to me. The loco that was produced more than any other in the diesel era probably SHOULD be seen all the time. In that vein though, I do wonder why we haven't seen any 25's yet. Were there 300 or more of those? Far more than the Class 50, Class 87, or Class 55s people are clamoring for.
Passion yes (and I rode in her cab many times), reference materials also a yes including a book. She is one of the few real standout diesel locos of that era. It will also sit really nicely with some of our future releases
