Some people can take a joke, others can not. I wasn't expecting this much backlash about this parody though but it is what it is. There was the meme of a crowd cheering at the announcement of the WCML, the Class 390 and ICE T as those were highly requested. There was laughter at the San Bernardino Line because it's not the most exciting route of the three new routes. There was a meme about the fact that many of the trains are recycled since DTG have a history of recycling trains. There was also the talk of DTG taking feedback seriously yet multiplayer which is a highly requested feature is not in the game and some other funny moments.

Also the attacks by some over the leaks is a bit odd. It's not the OP's fault that the leaks got out. If something is leaked, it becomes public information. It's DTG's responsibility to ensure that things are not leaked.

Pre-Crime is not a thing (here yet. It is in China). NDA works by threatening with civil lawsuits and of course giving trust (which is never an insurance). You can only prevent it by not having players on the Beta Team, only employees which in that case would risk losing their jobs. Which still isn't a 100% safety.

But yeah, let's not be party poopers. The leaks were funny, had no consequences at all, and it's funny someone spread the leaks because they like to see the forums explode, kinda "their thing now." Ha ha. Talking about trains, engineering or technical stuff's way too boring, it's for those old farts without a sense of humour.

not too ridiculous if I may say so myself as I could've honestly easily prevented further stress/drama if I just kept the last few images including the one of the 390 for myself, so that's honestly on me I guess. However I think it was also sorta for the better so DTG would notice faster that someone farther back was purposefully sharing images of not-yet-released content and take action quicker. I honestly don't know how to feel about all of it, but I do still regret my choice either way.

TSW 5 was already announced without a problem and was well recieved. The leakes are unfortunate but were well past that. It is what it is. Lighten up a little.

I'll be the first to admit this is an attempt at humour, a poor one but one nonetheless.
The problem lies with whom it's 'parodying'.
None of the staff asked or consented to anything within it. Amusing as it may be, did dtg_jd for example, find it as amusing? Being ridiculed unnecessarily is not what they signed up for.
It's their job for F sake!
These are people, human beings. How would you feel if your family and friends saw your job being taken the piss out of and mocked?
It's all well and good claiming 'its the internet' but there are humans behind this part of it and a little bit of contemplation and respect wouldn't go amiss.

Public figures constantly get memes and jokes thrown at them. It's not that serious

 

You don't understand that a comedian playing a role, is depicting public personas, a price you have to pay when being prominent. Nobody can stop anyone exposing Meghan Markle's attention seeking victimhood game. She's a public person. Is JD?

It's just about showing respect (everyone wants it, but not everyone is giving it) to the people whose footage you are using and whose forums you are using.

You are taking this way too seriously. Memes happen all the time. People make jokes about others without consent and often times, there isn't a problem. It's not that deep honestly.

 

If you are willing to put yourself out there on the internet this does just happen sometimes... Anyway what is the deal with some of yous getting offended for other people, again some people here need to calm down.

 

At no point was anyone mocked or ridiculed. By your logic we should start banning comedians for poking fun at people or culture.

This thread has been interesting to read. If there is one thing I learned though is that some people take things way too seriously. I guess it's hardly suprising that some are very sensitive these days.

I saw the video in question and honestly don't get the backlash. It was a light hearted joke about how DTG recycle previous content, excitement about the wcml and the German route and the other new content. Not so much excitement about the San Bernardino Line though. There was also the Qui Gon-Jinn meme about the suspension which did take a while to arrive. There was even a person who was part of DTG direct who commented about the parody in a light hearted way so I really don't understand why some are overreacting to this. It was just a joke and it's not that serious.

 

Can I ask what is the problem with this? It's someone shooting a laser at a virtual train. I've seen videos of trains derailing in TSW. Trains going extremely fast in TSW and other lighthearted tsw memes. Maybe you should go outside once in a while and not take things too seriously

 

single example of more people clipping streams of popular streamers... I bet you wouldn't want to watch the whole stream to find the "funny moment" but instead be happy if someone clipped that and uploaded it seperately. and they still don't claim the clips as their own, and neither did I. even Matin was fine with me clipping his unfortunate signalling situation, otherwise he surely would've DMed me already and asked me to take it down, or not?

 

Do what you want, but deal with consequences. Be original for once.

The people being joked about in the video are taking it as a joke, and its just you who seems to be getting more offended on their behalf than they are themselves.

But if the people who were featured in the parody weren't even offended by it, then what are you so offended about? Are your "values" to get offended at a joke directed at someone who isn't even offended by said joke?

I do always say that good comedy lasts, and quite honestly I have near enough forgot the vast majority of that video nearly 24 hours later, and seeing as Moron didn't take my request in his stride I am not taking the time to remind myself of it. This thread however has me in stitches and there are some brilliant posts here which are very funny, then some which are total bullocks. I do love the weekends on this forum though and It's been bloody enjoyable reading through this whilst trying to figure out how to build an Ikea thing for the Mrs. Speaking of which, must get back to that!

I can definitely see your point of view and I also agree about the lack of consistency in approach. I can only surmise that it was a pattern that maybe got people riled, and leaking of proprietary information can in this case potentially hurt our hobby, although that is debatable as it certainly raised the profile. A part of me wondered if a little tactical leaking here and there might not be a bad thing.. by the way, I appreciate your post. Its coherent and invites understanding, avoids personal attack and certainly helps present your position well. Hopefully I generally do the same, unless Ive gone into full meltdown mode or am mischievously stirring the pot..

According to some people on this thread fair use is considered illegal, interesting perspective. Luckily parody falls under fair use and therefore cannot be taken down for copyright as the content is transformative, I should know I've been using YouTube for over a decade.
Now it's just turned into a Myron bashing thread, If only people who are moaning about Myron knew they could block users.

I don't think you stirred the pot at all. I can understand that there will be those that don't find it funny and there is nothing wrong with that. At the end of the day, people will have a different sense of humor. All this outrage about this parody just doesn't make any sense though especially since the developers themselves actually found it rather funny. I think some just took this way too seriously which caused an unnecessary overreaction. Also the attacks on Myron hardly make any sense as well since he didn't even post this video on the forum. There's really only two musicians that can make me cry, Radiohead and David Gilmours' singing and storytelling guitar solos. "High Hopes" is immense.
