    Hey guys,

    Hope you are well.

Been going over some games I have really liked and been wanting to replay and I have made a list of sorts.

What are some of your favourite games. Games you think about long after playing that stay with you as they were that bloody good?

    And give reasons also.

    I will start:

Alan wake 2 (meta and totally gripping).

Red dead 2 (worth all hype: played 2018 when released and didn't think anything of it but after replaying was amazing).

Control (never thought I would like it but blew me away)

Last of us 2 (played in 2020 in lockdown and was speechless)

God of war 2018 (amazing and cinematic)

Resident evil 7 and remakes (scary and amazing)

The only non train game that I play do a significant number of hours is Forza Horizon 5 - I like free roam driving games and the fact that there new challenges every week.

Apart from that I mostly playing Retro Games from my collection of handheld consoles. Currently Crazy Taxi on PSP is a favourite. I used to have that on the Dreamcast and played it endlessly.

I mostly play using RetroArch emulators now, but I still have a fully working PSP (and Vita + a number of variations of Nintendo DS).

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012).

Never owned them myself, but had a blast on my friends' consoles!

A game that I just have so few complaints about and always enjoy is Forza Horizon 4. It's the game I always turn to if I'm unsure what I should play. Can't stand the 5th version though.

I've been playing Stellar Blade recently on PS5.

Thoroughly enjoying the fast paced combat of it, also quite challenging for someone not used to fast paced battle systems. The post apocalyptic visuals and soundtrack are amazing too!

I don't know if you have heard of a game called returnal but that's very fast paced and challenging. So hard I quit and sold it

Over the years, too many to mention. Not including railway/transport titles:

    Pretty much all the GTA’s.
All the Fallouts apart from 76.
The Mass Effect series up to No.3.
    Elite Dangerous though not recently.
Various Egosoft X games, with Terran Conlict best of all, went downhill with Reunions and X4 never got much further than the opening missions.

Oh and a huge shout for Snowrunner though technically a transport game.

so much over the years, but Darksiders series has a special place for me... finished all games in the series multiple times, recently on hardest difficulties (as someone who finished Dark Souls I-III with DLCs I figured I should be able to beat those games) :)

Legacy of Kain series is seemingly gaining some traction with imminent release of Soul Reaver 1 Remaster... still kinda hoping for a new game

also, Darksiders IV seems to have been teased recently, so, yaaay :)

loving me some RPGs, shooters, even some racing (almost forgot I got the most recent Need for Speed for like 7 euros lol)... oh and from Castlevanias, I cherish the most the Lords of Shadow series... such a shame it has never gotten a third full entry

but from the hrs and overall perspective, TSW reigns supreme with way over 1000 hrs clocked in when you count 2+3+4 and soon 5 :)

so many games, so little time :D

Nice to see a Senior enjoy the GTA Franchise. Most elderly folk (at least the one’s I know) absolutely detest it. They believe it messes your brain up and all that nonsense haha.

    Games I love: (Barring TSW)
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very chilled out game for me. Going hunting, fishing, camping out in the drop dead gorgeous scenery is just too good. By far my top game.

    Mortal Kombat:
Played them all. Grew up playing MK. It is super violent but I love the story and lore. My second favourite game franchise. It’s a bit sad though because the latest one really lacks content. It needs more game modes. Invasions mode just doesn’t cut it. It’s boring. But this isn’t the forum to complain about that so I’ll leave it there lol.

    Minecraft Creative Mode:
    I love building things.

I also forgot to mention the Deus Ex games, though Human Revolution was much better than Mankind Divided, IMHO.

Rdr2 is fantastic. They need to make a next gen 4k ps5 version. It is a beautiful game indeed.

Yes, I know I’m much older than the core demographic but I’ve just really got into Hogwart’s Legacy (and, yes I read and enjoyed all the Harry Potter books thanks to my son). I balked at the original price but it’s on offer for £29.99 on the Microsoft store at the moment.

I also enjoy the Broken Sword and Monkey Island series and adventure games in general (particularly those with plenty of humour) and in an earlier life, enjoyed the Sierra Online games. More recently games such as Life is Strange I found enjoyable if I just want to relax without having to think too much. Also RIP Telltale Games.

If anyone is passing through Edinburgh there is an exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland running until the 3rd of November: Game On .

There is quite a lot to try there from early arcade style cabinet based machines, console games, handheld devices and even some modern console and PC stuff. Microsoft Flight Simulator was featured but sadly no train simulators.

Something that I quite enjoy that many will not be familiar with is Glider Pro where you navigate a house looking for stars whilst interacting with switches, fans, vents and other sources of lift to keep going. You need a PowerPC Mac to play it on.

Some of the open source games that were popular on but not exclusive to linux were quite fun from the arcade style clones, to racing a penguin down a ski course on their belly, and the fun multiplayer Super TuxKart https://supertuxkart.net/Main_Page where computing mascots become fun racers: I usually play as Hexley.

I miss Midtown Madness and Midtown Madness 2 from the Windows world; I think these run on Windows 7 as the newest OS.

More complex than that. The successor to the original Elite and Frontier, but has been mired in controversy particularly if you play in multiplayer mode where stronger players preyed on, or “ganked” new and weaker players. Of course it’s all a bit of illusion as while the whole galaxy is procedurally generated only a very tiny percentage populated. Whether you trade, mine, explore or fight a huge grind ahead of you to get upgrades and materials for better and stronger ships.

And if you think these forums can be bad, the official ED forum is so toxic at times as to make this place look like a petting zoo!

I did play and finish Freelancer back in the day but I never quite got used to flying with the mouse rather than a joystick. It was also quite linear as despite the side missions in each system you opened up, the main plot was always driving you forward. That’s why even though the space flight mechanics are not very good, X3 Terran Conflict represented to me the pinnacle of the space game genre.

I quite liked it, as the battles and set pieces had strong Star Trek / Babylon 5 vibes and I loved the simplicity of the controls... I mean, how cool it was and how easy it was to learn the controls :) a nice power fantasy
