How do you choose which TSW5 to pick? I am guessing if you are new either the free version if you are not sure or standard edition maybe or you have nothing and the special edition gives you a good head start into the hobby, so who is new or who is gonna get the special edition?

If you have been playing TSW for a while more than likely you would already own some of the routes you might have picked up in the sales, the special edition might not be the one if you already own some of the routes or would be still worth getting cost wise if you don't own all the routes? I am guessing deluxe might suit most plays, but if you already own Cajon pass, then do you still buy it?

Standard edition is missing the pendolino, so do you buy the standard and get the pendolino seperate or not, which is cheaper?

Who is going for the free edition? What edition is everyone picking?

I think I'll be picking up the special edition at £94.49 pre-order price.
Even though I own 3 of the included routes (Cajon, Bakerloo and Kassel), it still works out cheaper than the free upgrade, standard edition and deluxe editions compared to buying routes/locos individually.

As someone who enjoys mainly modern British routes, I think I’ll pick up the Standard Edition, as for an extra £6 pre-order, i’ll also get frankfurt-fulda which i would enjoy, and then instead of getting the deluxe, i think i will just get the pendolino separately, as i do not care much for the flux train, and do not care at all for cajon pass

I’ll probably go for the deluxe edition, since I’m not interested in US freight I’ll probably try and uninstall Cajon Pass unless in brings significant AI to San Bernardino

Okay, good choice, it is nice to be able to pick and choose. How much do you think the pendolino will be seperate?

Since there is a free update this year, the edition you choose basically comes down to which routes and trains you are interested in getting. I will be getting the deluxe edition since I already own all of the extra routes in the special edition, but I want the Pendolino. I am not sure whether getting the standard edition + Pendolino is cheaper, but I can remember something about it being cheaper to buy the deluxe edition with the 10% discount. Additionally, having early access and a new set of German coaches are welcome.

Just find it boring, I find UK freight interesting because you’re usually mixed in with passenger trains, same with Germany + PZB

That is a hard choice, but you probably will save on pendolino buying the deluxe edition, plus additional German coaches. The early access is good, but I don't think you get access to back catalogue till offical launch?

For me it's a saving of £50 at least (based on the £29.99 route prices but including the standard edition base price of £40/£36 with discount).

£14.99 for the Class 390 Pendolino.

If you're really not sure then get the free version and sit it back and await reviews for each route. If you can wait till Christmas or later you will save a shedload of money and avoid the turnips.

You would have to get confirmation from DTG, but since they specifically mentioned Steam players, console players will likely have to wait like last year.

At the moment, I think I'll get me the German regional edition at launch and the Flix-Vectron separately, as I'm mostly into the German stuff. For me, not so greatly interested in the new UK/US routes/locos, this is still the cheapest option, apart from the free upgrade.

UK Regional Edition for me as I have zero interest in non-UK content (I only have thenLGV route installed for the SEHS layer, and it was free anyway).

I always wait until I watch all the previews before I make the decision, but if everything goes as planned I will be getting Deluxe and then get Suffragette when there is a sale with a good discount.

According to DTG and the TSW5 FAQ's, only Steam players will be able to access the full back catalog of routes owned.
However, the section below states that:

What will be available during Early Access?
During early access you will have access to the full game, including everything in your chosen bundle (Deluxe/Special). For the first time, Steam players will have the opportunity to download their Compatible Content during Early Access.

So that makes it sound like those on other systems (PS, XBox and Epic) will get access to any content that is part of the bundle they chose (inc the Pendolino, Flixtrain etc).

I'll get the special edition for once, something I've never done for any game before and here's why:

I started playing TSW 3 last year on my old XBox One S on Gamepass but transitioned to PC again but on Steam recently.
Since there are two TSW 3 starter routes in that edition plus one of the two other routes I previously purchased on XBox it's a good deal for me to get some of the back catalogue that I already played before and some more I haven't planned on getting otherwise really. Helps to broaden one's horizon I say and I'm looking forward to try route hopping on Kassel - Würzburg and the upcoming Kinzigtalbahn.

I had a similar experience on TSC before when I realised there are quite many british steam engines and routes from the era of steam in the catalogue but only a few technically and visually outdated german steam engines and no route from the era of steam at all. So I decided to broaden my horizon to british DLC and by now I have even more british DLC than german, so who knows.
The early access is just a nice bonus to me.

I will get the free edition for XBox and PS5 as well, since they're free and you never know.

Cheaper just by the numbers, in case of value for the money it would be the deluxe edition.
Deluxe is (with 10% discount) 67,49 € and regional + flixtrain will be 50,98 €

Probably free, followed up by using steam's refund policy to test out SBL to see if its worth it or not, followed up by the MTBA route later this year.

Have no interest in these special bundles, as I have no care for the UK/DB locos & routes that are included in them, especially since the US still never has gotten any special loco in these bundles.

Well I have gone for Deluxe as WCML without the Pendolino just seems pointless. The Flixtrain does look nice and we get some new coaches plus the Vectron is always a pleasure to drive. Otherwise it would be waiting round (probably) to Easter next year for both of those to get a 40 or 50% discount which is only going to save £6 or so off the extra £20 for going deluxe over standard. I don’t really see the point of the Special Edition, if you are a complete noob to TSW you’d be better off testing the water with a regional starter pack than blowing £100 on a game you might not enjoy.

I think I'm going to do the same and buy the Pendo too. Ok, it will 'only' save me something like £8 or £9 over the deluxe edition with the preorder discount but it'll make me feel less guilty about having DLC I 'own' but never install or play.

Yeah, well hopefully DTG will do more US stuff for you. I guess if you have no intetest in UK or German routes then it is no contest as to what you pick.

Yeah good point and it is hard to warrant spending a hundred pounds on a game you haven't played unless you have being around your friend's house and tried it out before hand. The deluxe seems to be the best choice if you want the full use of WCML, but I guess DTG geared it that way.

Yeah, the deluxe seems to make sense for long time users of the game, especially if you like UK routes.

It's very simple for me this time: wait for launch day, download the standard edition to both PC and XSX, and sample the content for free with my GamePass subscription. Also grab the free upgrade, just in case TSW6 does not go on GamePass next year. Total net spend: zero.

Not too sure just yet. I am a massive fan of UK routes and definitely want the WCML Route and the Class 390, so Im not sure whether to just get the free version of the game and pick them up separately or get the deluxe edition with the German Frankfurt route which does look good. I am still yet to decide. I want to see the preview gameplay first.

Free edition for me, then wait until the Just Trains route comes out and buy that. Zero interest in modern stuff so the Euston to Milton Keynes route can wait until it's on sale. I'll then put the 87 on it.

My head says free update and wait for sales.
    My heart says standard edition.
I'll watch the streams and decide then.

I did the calculation: if I'm only interested in the content of DE or UK, then regional edition plus loco DLC is likely cheaper. But if I'm interested in both countries (as I am), then the deluxe edition with 10% pre-order discount is the most cost-effective solution and you get one US route for free. As I already own Cajon pass, that is wasted on me as part of Deluxe.

It's still cheaper to buy deluxe and Suffragette and Bremen-Oldenburg separately though and not buy special edition. BRO has been on sale already with under 10€ and Suffragette was also reduced before.

Yeah, DTG probably Matt will probably be playing the routes and that should give us an idea of what's on offer. UK routes are great and if you like them even better. The deluxe one is probably the best for long term players, but you can't go wrong with the free version either as you have nothing to lose.

Free Version for now. Still so much to do with the TSW 3 an 4 routes plus the GWE remaster. Will pickup Salzburg-Rosenheim, Semmering and maybe BPO or Niddertal when on sale.
With at least 50% discount the Special Edition seems like a good deal for me as I don't own NY Trenton, BRO and Suffragette.

Yeah, players choice is usually down to budget or interests in a certain region and probably pick bits up in sales.

I am still not sure what is best for me.. It is either the Standard or the Deluxe Edition..
I own most of the routes, so I already own Cajon Pass and I don't want to pay for something that I already own..
But I do want the Class 390 Pendolino and the Flixtrain..
I read somwhere that the Pendolino will be sold for £14.99.. Is that confirmed..??

Yes. I only bought a lot of UK routes during TSW 2 when they were used as layers for London-Brighton. They didn't have an individual value for me before.

So I'd rather see few routes that are completely filled with accurate services filling all service patterns than a bunch of empty routes.

If you only want UK and definitely not the Germany/US one (or not anytime soon), then you can go for WCML (regional edition) and Pendolino separately.
