Given cActUsjUiCe / Brandon’s expertise on US signalling and his willingness to fix the signalling on the New York to Trenton DLC (if DTG were to commission him), I would like to petition DTG to commission Brandon to carry out the work, so that the DLC can be the best it can be.

I and I’m sure many others would like to see the signalling brought up to the standard set in the Boston to Providence route, which Brandon so brilliantly upgraded as well as his great achievement in developing the signalling for LIRR 2.

Didn’t he already do at least one signalling pass on NJT?

Has anyone actually asked the guy if he’s willing to do this, before posting the petition?

Surprised people are voting no :o

I would be interested to know why. Seems like a no brainer given the route has signalling issues and cAcTuSjUiCe knows how to put it right. And also given how much praise Matt Peddlesden (DTG Matt) was giving Brandon when showcasing his work on Boston Providence and LIRR 2.

Ive vote no due to the fact there is no button with "DTG is made such decisions not us"...... DTG has clearly not a possible option to fix the issues and i think they will never fix it. Its promised so many times but its not there. It would be a better pole "DTG should be honest or not"

I see no real problem, DTG can pay him his expenses, saves them doing it and the community is happy.

I voted no. It's too focussed on 1 route. Unsurprisingly a NY route again. I don't like this route and signalling alone is not going to fix this route.
Also I hate polls that are designed to get a 100% voting result. Who wouldn't vote yes on fixing things? Your surprise that there are NO votes tells the entire story of this poll ;)

As someone who used to commute on the route in real life, I think signaling fixes are all the route needs to get it into that top tier of routes. So I’m in the “yes” camp.

Edit: obviously with the caveat that the involved parties agree that it’s a workable business decision and what not.

I saw the conversation but I’m not sure if Brandon wanted this poll to be the outcome, he’s clearly discussed it with DTG already.

These routes with signalling systems only seem to work when Brandon actually has involvement, not sure why in one breath DTG are saying the US content is difficult as they don’t have many contacts, but then won’t bring the existing capable contacts they have on board.

You’d think the US content would be something DTG strive to get better as it’s a huge weakness for DTG, but issues like this are what give ammunition to the people calling out DTG for not caring about the US.

The other thing is that it’s not just as simple as changing the signalling.

The timetable will need to be run to check it still plays alright and if not then you enter the possibility of a huge recast. Likewise scenarios also need hand testing to ensure they still play out as anticipated.

My opinion is that if it's broken it should be fixed but the reality is that unless they have plans for the route, such as a new loco, then there is next to zero chance that they are going to pay out for it to be fixed.

Yup, it’s something that needs addressing in development. NYT was in trouble from the start, I appreciate Joe & the teams work for the timetable but again, whoever is making the decisions from the start line needs to get their ducks in a row.

The US content is on thin ice as it is with a lot of people. Whilst licensing & distance is an understandable problem, not working with the existing contacts, skimping on timetables & cut & pasting route tiles from years ago is an avoidable issue IMO.

It’s a fair point. Shame they couldn’t get it right the first time around. I think they learned a lot from the whole timetable debacle and tried to fix that (and applied what they learned to future content), but adding services to the timetable and ignoring the signaling issue was always going to be like putting lipstick on a pig. Now it’s probably going to have to be someone’s voluntary side project.

I don’t have any expectations whatsoever but I’d be pleasantly surprised if they were somehow able to fix the signaling on this, my home route.

Either way, I’ve probably gotten my moneys worth at this point, I’ve got thousands of miles driven on this one so I’m not actually complaining.

The saga of NYT is a comedy of errors. First it was launched before it was ready for prime time with a laughable timetable, AI issues, platform clipping etc.

Despite a flood of complaints, DTG flatly refused to revisit the route.
Then they changed their mind and issued 2 timetables, full and low fat. Fine, but then they deleted the freight component. And there were still myriad issues such as AI trains with lowered pantographs etc.

At this point, the route was at least playable, especially if you managed to overcome the signalling problems and speed limit quirks.

This route could have been a flagship, but it was royally screwed up.

If Brandon can work some signalling magic, fine, though isn't he busy with Boston- Worcester. I assume he only has one pair of hands.

(I don't think a poll is either needed or appropriate though.)

Just to clear some things up.

Yes, I have said on multiple occasions that I am willing to go back and fix the signaling provided the price is right. I can't do this work for free and I don't think anybody expects me to.

The signaling wouldn't be the only thing requiring adjustments. The rolling stock would likely require updates in order for them to understand my cab signal implementation (it differs from how DTG did Harlem and NYT).

The point was brought up that the timetables would need to be resimulated, which is absolutely correct.

So the poll should be: Who is going to pay the bill?
    Option 1: Me
    Option 2 : Not me

I think it’s make only Sense, if DTG expend the Route for 36€ to Washington or Baltimore Like on Long Island.

If you ask to ignore how fair is this poll then?! That implies you dont need negative results and thats exact what he gives a warning for.... Better skip this whole theater

DTG Alex DTG Harry Sorry to ping you but can you check the poll system in general here in the forums? This in my vision a very good example of abuse this facility.... Thanks!

The person I replied to said the poll was set up just to get a ‘Yes’ vote. It’s not because there is clearly a ‘No’ vote option.

How is it abusing the facility?

The poll has been live for almost 24-hours and registered 88 votes so far. Clearly the moderators don’t have an issue with it or it would have been taken down earlier today.

Again, if you don’t agree with the poll, don’t participate in it. You’re not obligated to do so in any way.

Polls (just like real life referenda) are always posed so you get a majority behind your own beliefs. You just twist the question in the right direction.
Here it is not binding to anything so i don't see any problem.
Only problem is when they're binding ( brexit anyone? :) )

It's a closed poll which doesn't give much choice. Given the poll is about fixing the NYT signalling (which I couldn't care for and did ignore the poll fyi), it's obvious, when the only options are 'yes' 'no', that most are going to choose 'yes'. It's biased towards one point of view.

Or, people say yes, then make more pointless polls around similar issues. End result being a forum full of polls saying should this or that be fixed.

If you believe they should, vote yes. If you believe they shouldn't, vote no. If you couldn't care less, don't vote.

Why do so many people get their knickers in a twist over something so simple and meaningless?

There is no such thing as a simple yes/no question
    it will depend
    - if people own the route
    - if people who own the route are annoyed by it that you in your high speed acela do 40 mph for 10 miles straight for that bug (not sure if its this one)
    - if people generally want every route to have every bug fixed?
    - how annoyed people are with certain bugs

    But meaningless: YES! :)

Wow this thread seems to have been shot down.

Instead of building entusiasm for something it seems to have brought out alot of uninterest.

Who did the timetable on NYT in first place?

Sounds like a huge fix to change all the signalling rules and then rework the timetable. Surely not a quick fix.

  49. mjc83me

    mjc83me Guest

It won’t be a quick fix, but that doesn’t mean it should just be brushed under the carpet. DTG has someone willing and able to fix the issues, but hasn’t yet got them onboard. This poll is intended to prompt DTG to do the right thing - to hire the expert to do the work - like they did on Boston Providence and LIRR 2. Brandon has said he will gladly do it, but at the right price. He has to make a living like everyone else.

Don’t forget, DTG are bundling New York Trenton into the TSW 5 Special DLC pack even though the route is critically flawed.
