Not everyone will agree with everything. This is about being courteous and respectful to all members. Respectfully
I remember at work we disagreed with somebody we would say "With all due respect" Oxford Dictionary says " used as a polite formula preceding, and intended to mitigate the effect of, an expression of disagreement or criticism." "Respectfully" is the same Oxford Dictionary says "used to express politeness to mitigate the effect of a refusal or disagreement."
Not allowing disagreement would kill a discussion board, reduce the variety and quality of suggestions and be contrary to human behaviour. I notice the new code doesn't prohibit going significantly off topic, which I think is an ommission.
Real people define it as "I'm trying to keep things as polite as I possibly can but I'm sorry, you're an absolute idiot so shut the **** up"
Often that phrase is a deceitful linguistic ruse, because what follows clearly shows no respect for the person or idea. Your language or your delivery will show whether you are respectful or not, it doesn't need insincere padding.
I think the message was simply intended to curb the chorus of sour folks and interactions related to that. Among other things I've frequently read the equivalent of "if you disagree you are an idiot / lowlife" which of course, kills the discussion. I am always correct and you better choose to agree with me freely. Seriously though, the evening skims of the US 3rd party content thread haven't been pleasing.
It's like starting a conversation with, "I'm not being funny mate but.... " and of course the, "Don't take this the wrong way...." Respectfully
I once got canned for saying 'LOVE'... yet people can just go wildly off topic and derail a thread... go figure.
Thats all well and good but I dont get upset by people calling me names, I treat everyone equally and call a shovel a shovel, so if I were to do unto others as others blah de blah insert more religious mumbo jumbo here then I'd definitely get banned lol.
With respect, I'm not being funny mate, but sometimes I forget and call a shovel a spade. Respectfully. Keith
