The British Rail Class 325 is an electric multiple unit (EMU) train owned by and operated for the Royal Mail to carry bulk mail. The class consists of four-car sets with dual-voltage 25 kV (AC) and 750 V (DC) power. While the Class 325 cabs bear a resemblance to the Networker family of DMUs and EMUs, the Class 325 is based on the Class 319. The operation is currently undertaken by DB Cargo UK. There were originally 16 sets built but unit 325010 has since been scrapped leaving 15 sets operational numbered 325001-009 and 325011-016. Unit 325006 is the only named set as John Grierson. These sets operate up to a top speed of 100mph. 8 car formation with 325006 John Grierson leading.
I think this will be a great DLC for the freight packs. It could be used so much on Routes. Great suggestion!
Nice idea but can’t help but think as a concept is useless as a mail train has no other use apart from being a glorified console hornby trainset
The class operates point to point just like a freight consist except at higher speed. If animated with loading and unloading of trolleys by Royal Mail npcs at relevant locations it would be a little bit of fun unlike everything else thus far. Perhaps it could lead the way for further Mail and Parcels trains and units in the future.
Perhaps a 'Mail Line' can come in as well as 'Cargo Line'. I don't know how much mail stock British Rail has/had, but if there's enough for some 'Mail Line' Volumes...
There are the Class 325s and previously there have been.... Locomotive hauled Travelling Post Office stock. Class 127, 128, 129 and 130 DPUs. Class 302/9 EPUs. Possible others that I have missed.
I did notice there's a working for the 66 in the game that I'm pretty sure in real life is operated by a 325...
Currently Willesden PRDC is lacking in traffic, and the services normally undertaken by a 325 are represented by a Class 66 hauling I assume, container wagons? Having a 325 would make the service realistic and could provide a layer to ECML to represent the Willesden to Low Fell service as well. Good suggestion .
