Free Starter Pack Shortfalls

Reading the TSW 5 FAQ, it is very important to note that the FREE Starter Pack is missing some new TSW 5 features. Notably Scenarios, Timetables, Mastery Challenges, Conductor Mode, Route Hopping, Digital Display Screens and Timetable Layer Control.

It is explained that route DLC’s are required to unlock these features, but it doesn’t make clear if all features will be unlocked when adding routes. I presume they will be, but just make sure you’re aware of this table.

 

I believe it was explained on one of the streams that the chart was designed for new players who have no content. The features mentioned require a route. The free version comes with no routes and very limited stock.

if you have routes with the selected features (either “compatible” or TSW5 routes, then the features will unlock.

 

Of course there not, you need a route to do all those things.

The starter pack is literally just the training centre and that is it. You know the core of the game. Its only a core update not a core and some free routes.

If you have any older content then that can be redownloaded and used in TSW5.

But none of the old content will have new features as usual. New features only come with new routes.

 

Its not so hard to understand and they been very clear what exactly the free update is since it was announced.

On TSC when you get the free upgrade it does not included any new routes only new core features. So it's the same thing.

 

These new features in TSW5 are tied to new routes and new rolling stock. If DTG wants to, they could also implement them in TSW4, just like they did with the suspension improvements.

 

Why would scenarios and timetables be included? The free starter pack is just the training centre.
It's very simple. If you don't own any routes and download the free starter pack the features in red are not available
If you own any previous routes to TSW5 you will have timetables and scenarios

It's not that hard to understand.

 

At no point have I said it’s difficult to understand. Friggin hell there are a lot of passive aggressive people in this forum.

 

I wouldn't expect any of this to be in the free update though? The issue with TSW4 is that I had to purchase the ECML which I had no interest in just to be able to play BPO.

The point of the free pack is to allow us to upgrade without having to buy the new routes if we don't want them.

If you buy the TSW5 routes then you'll get the new features like guard mode etc. it's just a nice change to be able to get that core update to TSW5 for free without being forced to buy routes you might not ever use

I bought TopSpin2k25 and was very unsatisfied with that game. Since then I'm ignoring that game.

 

• Scenarios: None without a route
• Timetable: Nothing without a route
• Mastery: Nothing without a route
• Conductor Mode: Nothing without a timetable
• Route Hopping: Nothing without routes to hop between
• Screens: only applies to TSW5 stock (which I assume means the Training Center doesn't have it)
• Timetable Layer Control: Nothing without a timetable.

With the exception of Digital Display Screens, none of the above would be included in the Starter Pack (which is just the core + training centre)

Your existing collection will have some of these features, while TSW5 content will (should) have them all.

 

The problem with that matrix showing the features is that it doesn’t specify which features apply to past TSW routes and which are only on the new routes. Scenarios, timetables, layer control, route hopping are definitely features we know will work with old routes. I think digital display screens also but I’m not entirely sure. Mastery challenges I don’t know. The only one we know for sure is exclusive to the new routes for now is conductor mode. DTG should have put asterisks on those ones to specify which features are there if you already own previous TSW content.

 

It's cut off on the OP's post, but the right hand column is old routes, the middle column is new TSW5 routes.

 

Well, tbf, it may also be due to the words chosen for the title of this thread;-) It does not suggest that you have any questions, rather that there are deliberate shortfalls in the free starter pack…

 

Um also ain't it against forum rules to have that many profiles potentially on the go lol......

 

It is absolutely understandable that if you don’t own route, you can’t use functionalities specific to routes. I see it as a well made move by DTG to release free starter version of TSW5 to allow anybody try to ride a locomotives in Training Center, and If they like it, they can buy some DLC’s. Also it’s a very fair move against players with older versions, they can upgrade to TSW5 for free and bring their content in.

 

Yeah, also means they'll receive any future updates to older routes for free too. Without having to buy any version of TSW 5.

I haven’t threatened to have anyone banned. You cannot deny however that I’m being ganged up on by you and the others I’ve listed. That’s what it feels like to me anyway. That post was published on Friday during working hours. If DTG had a problem with it, it would have been removed. It hasn’t been removed, so there is no issue with it.
