That still exists? This was raised with DTG on several occasions..

The starter pack is free so they can stop supporting TSW4 sooner

Assuming its the same thing I don't think DTG can do much as its to do with steam. That also still works for TSW5 as well.

These gen8 timetables used to be more like a recommendation rather than mandatory id like to see them like that again as I could still run services by turning off unwanted layers.

They probably didn't realize or forgot. It's easy to forget things when there's a lot of things going on at once. At least they said the truth regardless

What feature will be removed? Being able to request routes will be removed? Or no more UK routes as of TSW6?

What has happened to this game? I've looked at some other threads, notably on WCML, and it looks like a mess. Everything is good over here on TSW 2 by the way!

It's not all bad, Frankfurt and San Bernadino came out great. WCML, yeah, they must have had a setback. But 2 out of 3! Not a bad result, I've now lost 10 hours on the Frankfurt route :D

San Bernadino is definitely growing on me, especially with the lighting mod installed.

Probably because it gives off that GTA Los Santos/ATS/Run 8 vibe!

In response to the poll: This thread is a good general whining and crying thread (that's the name given to the equivalent threads on GTA Forums) and continues to serve a purpose as a general discussion and complaining thread, and because this is Train Sim World there will always be new things to talk and complain about.

I dont actually get the fuzz about WCML, from my perspective its a solid route. Only a bit short for my taste as the runs with the 390 falls a bit short. Maybe its due to not being local at all. Even more, i think the 390 is in its whole a better piece of content then the ICE-T is.

The route may not be that bad, but the lighting at London Euston station is awful. It really takes away from the immersion when the station doesn't feel well-lit or realistic. It's something that could definitely use improvement to match the quality of the rest of the route.

  19. Unfortunately its a sizeable part of the revenue stream so understandably not going to get trimmed anytime soon.
Maybe GTA6 and other triple A titles/studios will lead the way, encouraging consumer upgrades which the smaller studios like DTG can then slipstream. Then there's the question of exploiting the new platforms potential which also seems to take place on the back of the drag curve..
    Ho hum.

There are flaws. No question. The lighting issues are nothing new to TSW since Tod4 those issues are well known and were raised all over from the community an not only affect WCML. Its a core problem thats needs to be sorted for all of the content.

I also agree on the sparse timetable regarding Over- and Underground. Regarding 350 and 390 services, i think its decent.

Still i quite enjoy having a go in the Pendo, its a well made train and feels really authentic to drive (as far as i can possible judge this)

    No, it isn't.

They build routes for Gen 9, then scale it back for gen 8.

That means gen 8 does not hold anything back.

In the days of the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, developers who wanted to release games on all three platforms had a choice of three:
1: Develop a separate Wii version from the ground up (best results but too expensive for most developers)
2: Port the PS3/Xbox 360 version to the Wii, scaling it back so that it functions (often barely playable Wii versions, as was the case with Quantum of Solace and other games)
3: Port the Wii game to the PS3 and Xbox 360 (best for the Wii, but often meant the PS3/360 versions were very ugly)

Either way there is a compromise. I know first hand that the presence of the PS4 and Xbox One limits route development - when I was working as a third party route builder for TSW we were told to keep the scenery simple and to limit distant scenery so that it ran well on the older consoles. While undoubtedly DTG could do more for optimisation on all platforms, the DTG line that the PS4 and Xbox One don't affect development is anywhere from a loose interpretation of the way the game works to an outright lie.

You'll notice on most routes that trackside scenery is significantly better than what's behind the fence. This is especially visible on Blackpool Branches, where there is thick vegetation close to the track and nothing beyond it. That is without a doubt because of the PS4 and Xbox One. It's simply not the case of just 'scaling it back' for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Either way, until someone provides solid proof that gen 8 does hold TSW back (funny how everyone who says this doesn't do so), it's false.

    It can't just be said.

There is only so far that something can be scaled back, Routes and content in general will be built around the lowest common denominator which is Gen 8. I don't think it can be overstated how little performnce the Gen 8 consoles had even when they were brand new. The same CPU performance as a 2007 Core 2 Quad and less GPU performance than modern intergrated graphics.

Said on the other recent Gen 8 thread, i'd be amazed if TSW5 looked any different if it was released on PS4 or not.

May be worth actually looking at the trackside graphics on a PS4. Victoria rail bridge is around a quarter of a mile away from empty countryside. The buildings at Croydon appear when you are 100 metres away from them. There is one half of 2 road bridges on Fife Circle. Start a freight Service on Glossop and the rear of the train is floating in mid air as the viaduct you start on is missing.

Imo this will probably be the last iteration on Gen 8 and we'll see if there is a difference next year.

yep low end 2013 tablet CPUs and lower end 2012 GPUs. The mid gen refresh with the PS4 Pro and One X did pretty much nothing to fix the biggest bottleneck with those consoles which were their CPUs (funny enough Sony has repeated the same mistake with the PS5 Pro), hence why they pushed resolution over framerates, because the CPUs literally couldn't push more frames.

I'm curious why people think that removing support for gen8 means gaining anything for PC/gen9.
I believe that this is it, this is the best game they can put out, and the only "support" for gen8 are reduced timetables.

Just buy yourself a ps5 or series x.

I mean after all, money doesn’t seem to be problem according to most in here when people complain about the quality of routes and releases a new game every year. Or so we keep being told.

Not forgetting that a new console would cost a lot more than a £30 DLC.

Seemed the best place to put this…

I got an email yesterday evening there is a new version of ProMods to go with the latest update to ETS2, which I haven’t been on since January. So I took the plunge and headed off to my favourite stamping ground of Northern Europe. Frankly the lighting, graphics and performance put TSW to shame. Everything just looks so good, you can see SCS are a team who take real pride in their product, as indeed are the talented modders who produce ProMods etc.

Nice to be playing a game that doesn’t hitch and judder continuously, doesn’t alternate between trying to burn your eyeballs out one run to peering into a black pit of night on the next. Towns and cities that look more than a few random buildings plonked down and disguised by avenues and clumps of trees.

Sunset on the approach to Honningsvag has to be seen to be appreciated.

There’s also far more sense of purpose to what you do in ETS2 (or ATS) than just mindlessly accumulating AP.

I've been buying ATS extension maps for the past 2 years without playing them. It's easier to buy them in chunks, when they get discounted.
I look forward to driving from coast to coast one day, and I mean proper SCS maps, not the copy/paste job that the C2C mod was.

Yes I see Arkansas has just released for ATS, only £10 too which compares favourably with what DTG charge for incomplete and poorly tested DLC. Will be grabbing that at some point.

I've not got it but it's the lack of traffic I've seen on streams that make it look more like the Fife Circle than the WCMLS. I live near it and it should be way busier than it is. Also the way they've decimated the LO 710's timetable of course. This is not a simulation of the real route.

In the recent "Planes Trains and Automobiles Fest" Steam sale instead of getting anything for TSW or TSC, I went for Diesel Railcar Simulator (additionally to a couple of other games that are more about building around trains than driving them). Maybe the scenery there doesn't look as detailed as in TSW, however the graphics get updates every couple of months, like just yesterday for example ballast got bumpy tessellation and some textures were updated to look more natural, but it costed me only 1/4th of a single TSW route, it has things in the Steam workshop, including some Japanese DMUs and routes, and for me it's always more fun playing with diesel locos and DMUs than single handle electric stuff.

It stops them being able to add frame generation and the latest versions of FSR as it drastically changes the code base. It's been said many times that they have to develop everything for the lowest system version they want to use.

It's more about the core game being able to run on low end systems, not the routes being made and scales back.

My only issue with DRS is that the route editor doesn’t support real world terrain or mapping data import. Otherwise once you get your head round it, quite nice to work with.

As noted above, I have suggested repeatedly to the developer that having real world data import would massively expand the route building potential but has fallen on stony ground.

I believe FSR is just a plugin to UE4 available on the Unreal Marketplace, not a drastic code change.

Just out of curiosity, what does a modern TOD4 route look like on a gen8 console compared to High/Max settings on a PC?
