Playing WCML South and San Bernardino on TSW5 this morning, and my headphones have been constantly crackling and popping more than a Geiger counter at Chernobyl. I thought audio compression was supposed to be fixed in TSW5, but it seems like it hasn't been touched? DTG Matt DTG JD
Some examples here. Better quality audio was probably what I was most looking forward to with the update.
If I'm not mistaken they only made the sounds at a higher bit rate so the sounds don't have distortion and are clearer.. the popping and crackling is due to how unreal works with xbox audio engine which is not very good at looping sounds.getting rid of it would require a new sound engine and that will use up more memory which is not good matt peddelesden did mention this a couple of years ago please correct me if im wrong on this. on gen 8 and now even gen 9 is struggling for memory ,I've had several out of video memory already on tsw 5
So xbox is stuck with poor quality sound, and z-fighting. A contender for worst platform to play the game. I know PS is also suffering crashing at the moment too. But at least the sound is decent and the cab decals aren't flickering for the entire trip. I suppose the one consolation this year is that at least the core update was free.
Definitely a console thing; I remember it well on Xbox SX, to a much lesser extent on PS5, but absent on PC except for when looping is simply poorly done. A shame this is still present, I wonder if they will finally iron it out one day?
Just jumped in the 47 on Blackpool and the sounds are awful. They are like dropping in and out, it is terrible.
Still not fixed? That drove me nuts on Xbox. For me the crackling and popping made the game unplayable on Xbox. Having all those Xbox exclusive problems on top of the many problems TSW5 already has makes me so glad I moved back to PS5.
they explained it is an ongoing issue they are working on improving. It is not something that can be resolved in 1 simple update
Keep telling yourself that. Amazing how none of the other 2000+ XBOX games on the store are getting audio complaints, isn't it?
Game on PC/Steam is exactly the same, unfortunately. Horrible issues with audio whenever it stutters, even apparent on DTG's own streams yet they seem in a constant stae of denial or silence over the matter. I actually refunded the F59 in a probably futile protest at the ruination the train sounds are encountering from this bug.
If you knew what kind of issues to expect then why purchase in the first place? Like all other dlc you've bought and refunded. Maybe it's time to find a different hobby
None of your business, frankly. But since you stuck your beak in, previously it hasn’t seemed as noticeable on diesels as electrics but I should have twigged that the GM smoother sounds would be more prone to distortion. I also have a large sum of money invested in TSW, so why should “I find another hobby”? The company running this turdpile need to get on and fix it. Won’t make that mistake again..!
And strange though it might seem I haven't noticed it much on Mittenwaldbahn, which you might think would really put stress on the core.
I've not played that route, so I couldn't comment. But for example, bcc seems free of pops and crackles. Yet take Blackpool branches, it's really noticeable.
At this point, I think that TSW5 is running on such a "Frankenstein" build of UE4.27 that it would be impossible for anybody to bring it back to anything approaching stock. DTG have modified and altered (read: destroyed) UE4 so badly whilst trying to force it into fitting their specific needs, that I doubt even Epic Games could revert it to a serviceable and stable build. Just gotta pray that update patches don't break currently functioning content, I guess.
