Where & what locomotives are these ? Why do they remind me of the Soviet TEM-7 heavy shunter ? Here's one for reference -
Station is Ostrava hl. n. and the locomotives are both ČD 742 (you can see the number plates) manufactured by ČKD between 1977 and 1986 (494 produced in total). The manufacturer was also producing broad-gauge locomotives for the Soviet Union so maybe what you are showing is some kind of modernization. They also exported a few locomotives to Albania in 1990s before facing bankruptcy but I don't know what these were exactly. Other than that, I would say that it's a pretty classic long-hood design that you can see just about anywhere.
Another great Don Coffey video. Of particular interest to those planning to buy the forthcoming Preston - Carlisle route.
Not the MTA, just the museum. The MTA has their own software, it looks like the museum just rigged up their cab mock-up to run with TSW. The railroad museum in Toronto has a similar setup that uses Trainz software.
I just got the YouTube suggestion to watch this cabview from a BR 798 again. It is a "Schienenbus" roughly translated to trainbus. One could say it is the german Pacer. The video shows first how to operate, the sound and then a run from Kappeln to Eckernförde, a branch line that was reactivated in 2022 for the summer under reopening conditions. So you also get some nice, warm Schleswig-Holstein summer
Minor Amtrak Train Derailment heading out of New York's Penn Station: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/m...r&cvid=3f6580977f6c4d64f3dd9a1f92a0eb7f&ei=10
We took a ride to New Jersey yesterday to visit the URHS of NJ's "Museum for a Day" event at their facility in Boonton. We took an Amtrak Empire Train to NYP, transferred to a NJ Transit Morristown Line train, then got off at Denville, NJ to connect with the special "Boonton Scoot" service to get us to the event. It was my first time riding Transit and actually spending time in New Jersey (as opposed to riding through it on the Acela), and aside from the chilly drizzle it was a pretty good day. I will say, NJ Transit really needs to clean the windows on their Multilevel cars; we couldn't see out at all on the train there, and the train back we could sort of see. The event had an excellent selection of equipment on display, and guests were allowed to visit the cabs of select locomotives. We visited the cab of ALP44 # 4424, my first time in the cab of an AEM/ALP unit, and I was surprised at how satisfying the "thunks" of the notches on the auto-brake handle felt. We also walked through their restored 20th Century Limited cars that they charter on various Amtrak and museum trains, it was a fascinating look into the past. In addition to the display at the URHS yard, the town itself was holding a festival where they blocked off their entire main street from car traffic and had tons on vendors, booths, local shops and businesses, and more on display. Afterwards we rode back to NYP and spent some time in Moynihan Train Hall, grabbing a bite and using up a lounge pass to people watch from the balcony of Amtrak's fantastic Metropolitan Lounge. Eventually we boarded our Empire Train home and whisked up the Hudson Line under the cover of darkness. More to come...
Last post for today; a few videos I took from yesterday. Not the greatest quality, between the rain, my cellphone being covered in rain, and my less than steady aim, but I figured they were still worth sharing. I hope you all enjoy! I'll have more photos to share next week following Metro-North's Open House at their Croton Yard Facility this coming Saturday.
The Japanese shinkansen bullet trains turn 60 today, being launched on Oct. 1st 1964 between Tokyo and Osaka. To celebrate, JR Tokai has made an 60th Anniversary TV commercial, which they have also released on Youtube.
Thank you for the pics! Especially the P.R.R. loco ones, I have always liked that livery. Would be nice to get a P.R.R. gameplay pack for the Horseshoe Curve route.
You're most welcome! GG1's are quite the sight to see in person, you don't realize just how large they are until you are standing in front of the coupler looking up lol. I agree on the livery, the dark green with pinstripes is gorgeous and truly accentuates the art deco styling of the locomotive.
Innotrans 2024 The new dual mode Vectron!. It seems the success of the Stadler Eurodual has payed attention to Siemens. So they have just showed the new Vectron with dual mode (Diesel + Electric) In this case it has only one pantograph! Other interesting locomotive shown there, it was the corresponding to the ICE-L train set. Previously only shown with passenger and cab car, but not the locomotive!.
My wife and I took Amtrak down to Croton-Harmon today for a quick ride and tour of the Harmon Shop. Metro-North hosted their first Open House at their Harmon Facility in over ten years, and they did a fabulous job. The new shop was clean, massive, and had plenty of booths with demonstrations and very pleasant employees happy to share their work experiences. The equipment on display was fabulous, and the model train company Rapido had a booth showing an upcoming announcement for a run of HO scale Metro-North P32 locomotives (these were previously only produced by Athearn, and they only had a limited Metro-North release years ago). Metro-North was also offering Fall Foliage excursions up to Bear Mountain Bridge and back, but seeing as we already rode in from that direction and had an Empire Train to catch home, we passed on it. Enjoy the photos! Second page incoming!
And as a little bonus, some photos and video I shot while waiting for our train back home. I apologize for the less than stellar video quality. I was using my cellphone and the sun was doing me no favors lol. I hope you all enjoy!
Interesting and if you want to know what the American locomotive they were based on it's the Alco RSD-1. Meaning the class one Railroad in the United States if they still have an Alco operational they can actually order the engine from CKD if still around.
Not sure what exactly you are refering to but the original engine for the ČD 742 (and I believe also the current one) is a 64,8 liter Straight 6 derived from a V12 that was designed for the ČD 753 (though I swear that one was 144 liters and not 129,6). Has nothing to do with the loco you mentioned. Also ČKD isn't around anymore. They went bankrupt and at least the rail-vehicle production was sold out to Siemens.
Went to Berlin for the first-ever time recently and had a fantastic time. Some of my favourites were of course the Stadtbahn, Ringbahn and, of course, Berlin Hbf. Apart from Berlin, also travelled to Potsdam as well as places such as Hennigsdorf (where iconic locos like the 143 and many other types were built) too. Here are my pictures, enjoy! Berlin Continued...
Awesome photos, cloudy! Berlin Hbf is one of my bucketlist destinations. It's a shame we don't have stations like that here in the US.
I’ve been to Berlin twice with my wife. A beautiful city and well worth a visit. Recommend a walking tour.
I got surprised by Sir Nigel Gresley walking to the shops at lunchtime today. (If I had known I would have been in a better position to get a video).
A follow-up: SFMTA has entered into a contract with Hitachi Rail to upgrade their tech by 2033 or 2034, including obsoleting their 5 1/4" floppy boot system and their trickle-speed loop cable communication system. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/202...ly-get-san-francisco-trains-off-floppy-disks/
On October 9th SMS Rail Lines used their steam locomotive #9 to move freight in the Pureland industrial park in Bridgeport New Jersey #9 has also been fully painted
Metro-North has taken delivery of the first of their new Siemens locomotives, the first run of the model to feature third-rail dual mode capability. Eventually these will replace the GE P32AC-DM units that debuted in the late 90's. https://www.trains.com/trn/news-rev...rth-introduces-siemens-dual-mode-locomotives/ https://new.mta.info/press-release/mta-unveils-new-modern-metro-north-locomotives There is no solid news yet on if the LIRR or Amtrak plan to acquire their own units for the operations in and out of Penn Station. The LIRR DM units and Amtrak's own P32's are starting to get a little long in the tooth. Amtrak eventually plans to run their Airo trainsets on various corridor services (including the Empire Service), however, they have not shared their plans for how overnight trains like the Lake Shore Limited would be handled. Currently, the LSL is the only Hudson Line train with overnight passenger equipment, and merges with/separates from the Boston segment at Rensselaer. With the writing on the wall for the Gensesis locomotives, it may be a good time for DTG to start visiting the shops at Rensselaer and Croton for research trips!
