Like I have said, TSW6 will just be a box of ones and zeros. DTG need to take stock and fix what they have and stop trying to propel out the next new thing, just adding another items that needs to be fixed.
And that's the point, loss of license will mean loss of revenue when people decide not to buy a DLC because it doesn't have the TOC brand.
I have heard this countless times and seems a little odd to me 'the console market is the biggest customer base' It doesn't tell the whole story and assumes the 'console' is all the same version, it is not. An Xbox is not a PS5 and then you have different versions on the same console. If you take an individual format the PC is the largest base by some margin. I'm not being a fanboi of any system but just because you have a PS5 version and it is classed as a console does not make it the largest customer base imo.
I don’t think anyone has said that a particular console is the single biggest base. There is something to be said for DTG needing to put more effort into the console side of things though, because at the end of the day that’s where most the users are. Sure you can’t say put all the effort into an Xbox build, or less effort into a PS build (the discrepancy between console builds support that), ultimately though you’ll arrive into a ballpark of consistent hardware specs, which is probably an easier baseline to establish, as opposed to individual PC builds. You could very easily split the same ‘hairs’ breaking down the most popular PC specs.
Have to agree to disagree there. As a retired railwayman who has had the misfortune to be involved directly (on train) and indirectly (various Control Offices) with numerous fatalities over the years, it is no trivial matter. Trying to help the traincrew fix the fractured brake pipe underneath the front of a Class 47 surrounded by blood, bone and brains is not an experience easily forgotten. So, okay to put it another way, DTG had better hope no one from the infrastructure or train operators decides to fire up the sim themselves, to see what use the game company have put all this privileged data they have supplied. If I was an Operations Manager at NR or a TOC and ran into a station with person(s) stood in the four foot, I would be straight on the phone to Matt P or whoever the liaison is, reading the riot act. It doesn’t matter if you ghost through the person, it’s sloppy and incompetent route building followed by lax testing and apathy over fixing the problem that needs a massive kick up the backside, IMHO.
I’m also railway. It really bothers me seeing the NPCs on the platform stood right at the very edge as I’m driving through. Surely it can’t be difficult for Dovetail to program it so that NPCs don’t go over the yellow line unless boarding a train.
My dad worked for BR (and then EWS) from 1975 to 2000, In that time he had three fatalities, and while he never spoke about them and the impact they had, he did say the last one was at Syston station. Walked off the Platform and under his train. So I can see TOCs clamping down after several years of this same issue of passengers spawning on the tracks.
Don't think we're going to get any huge improvements on TSW2s Zombie Rush-Hour passengers during TSW5's product cycle unfortunately. It seems to be a more fundamental issue than simply placing invisible walls for them but only when there isn't a train to board.
I had a very weird experience yesterday using fast travel on this route. I fast travelled back to Euston and my screen went black. At first I thought that the game had crashed but then the world came into view - sideways. Apparently my player character fast travels on their side. As the world spun into view half the assets disappeared, and I fell to the ground. Then the tracks and platform reloaded, leaving me stuck in the platform. Also had a crash about 5 minutes out of Euston. There was only one train in the area, as it passed the game froze and hard crashed to the Xbox dashboard.
I weren't going to comment on this matter, but just want to pop in and out again to agree with what you say Vern. This game is an escape and the last thing I want in that escape is, quite frankly, my absolute worst nightmare.
I totally respect that Vern and agree about the sloppiness. Maybe this is a selfish reason for myself, but I wouldn't want to punish the whole game and see the game collapse and become a beige landscape for a sake of an issue that could be easily fixed by DTG. I feel, yes it needs to be recognised, but it's most likely an unintentional error and I'd personally be willing for DTG to just acknowledge it and fix it ASAP as a small update. I just don't think it's worth punishing the whole game for sake of an easily fixed error and potentially losing licences and the snow ball effect that can have for the entire game. It starts and licences but where does it finish? I can't fully relate because my own proffesion is in a different field away from the railways, but I totally respect your view point and sympathise with your own lived experience of such traumatic incidents on the railway, and I don't want shy away from the grim reality of such things and how even a small error in the game like this can give the impression of such incidents regardless of train and AI people acting as ghosts to each other.
I agree. In fact, the large majority of train drivers have faced traumatic situations like this. On the discussions about using high beams in Germany, I've read a post by a german train driver in another forum, saying they never use them because they do not want to see what they're running over. DTG haven't managed to make correct navmeshes for passengers for 7 years now - I doubt they are able to fix it suddenly. In TSC, it occurs very rarely (if at all, can't recall such a situation myself), it more than often suffers from passengers being sunk into the platform, which is just down to a mistake when connecting ramps to platforms, in that case the lower end of the attached ramp is considered as the platform surface height (easy fix, split and weld again).
I wonder when did they start making WCML before its release? Looking on how bad it is in terms of the timetable and scenery looks horrendous, don't take rocket science to go on 'google maps' Type in Milton Keynes Central and go along the line. 13 miles from MK on TSW, Scenery is very poor and TSW2 Style type, looks like I went on TSC. It is disgusting. Then it is Rivet we are talking about, [EDIT - Jan - Inappropriate]. Whoever had the brains at DTG to give Rivet to WCML (sorry for repeating myself but can't help it) needs to come out here and make a statement instead of hiding behind the Community Managers back and having them let do their talking. End of the day TSW Franchise wouldn't be blooming if it wasn't for us customers. DTG could end up losing customers if they don't improve. Customer Service we get on here ain't top notch, we say something that is honest it gets deleted. Only reason I bought TSW 5 was for the 350 and 390. I do say I was very happy but then for the 390 to not have like barely Functionality for the TMS is beyond pathetic tbh. Also PIS being wrong on 350 and 390 and also as we know departure boards totally incorrect. As I say the distance is a bloody disgrace Yorkshirelad and me say us players who want longer UK routes especially for High speed get neglected because everyone will moan when we get a decent long sized route. Yet Germany gets very good high speed routes. At one point at DTG did they think Euston to Milton Keynes was acceptable and going to please the community? 30-40 mins with the 390 is barely enough time.
[EDIT - Jan - Inapporpriate] Like my buddy matthewgoddard510 has said, there is a massive part of the community crying out for longer routes!
If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all. Throwing insults is not going to get you anywhere.
The issue of passengers on tracks and elsewhere they shouldn’t be is a concerning one. Then again, it’s DTG, it’s happened for years and they don’t seem to think it’s a fix that’s needed. I’m enjoying the WCML in parts but my goodness, it needs some work to bring it up to the standard of the Goblin for example. DTG are capable of putting out an excellent route, but have shot themselves in the foot entrusting Rivet (allegedly) with this offering.
As soon as it was announced as Euston to MKC, feedback was given that it should have been to Rugby and included the Northampton loop. I think the response was along the lines of "doesn't fit with the plan", I'm shocked that their is a plan to be honest.
Stating that someone should be in a mental institution is a fact is it? Do you have proof of this? These aren't faceless people this is an actual real person the poster was attacking. No matter how passionately you might feel there are lines you shouldn't cross in my opinion. There is much hysteria in some of these posts it devalues the original reason for the post existing.
I was horrified when i saw it was to MK, they used Euston as an excuse to do it shorter.Yet still couldn’t get anything much right. Poor tbh
It’s not him being serious but in what right mentally you give a route a very much requested route to Rivet?
Your use of the word snowflake says everything. You don't know it was given to Rivet, they had a hand in it and so did other third parties. To what extent we can only speculate.
I'm really enjoying this route now. With ini changes and some lighting mods, other mods etc, it looks really good. Done a few runs on the dc line, even with the vague traffic, the route being transformed, I hardly notice the missing traffic. Can't wait for the new timetable though.
I noticed a “Seal The Deal” advertising board somewhere on the route across from the Overground. The Seal is part of the Rivet Games Fife Circle route. I’ve only been doing some Pendolino runs as I decided to learn just the InterCity stuff on Train Simulator Classic. For the most part it’s been mildly entertaining and the train seems like a definite upgrade compared with the still good Train Simulator Classic one. It is just a shame that we can’t have longer cab only routes to take advantage of the high quality trains, but that wouldn’t be Train Sim World unfortunately. I really hope Just Trains impress us with their upcoming long route.
It i Yep and we got JT doing routes better and better. Longer as well. If I had money to upgrade my PC and have mods I would. I enjoy the WCML EUS TO BNS on TSC. How they thought they would get a positive reaction doing it to MK i don’t know
Passengers walking out in front of trains, spawning on the tracks and standing so close to the platform edge are all terribly bad issues with TSW that DTG has failed to fix over several years, despite massive amounts of feedback. Yes, it’s a game, but if I was a TOC, I would not be licensing my branding. DTG doesn’t allow trains crashing in the game, but is ok with suicidal passengers. Hmm.
Quite literally also you got train drivers on this game who may have experienced it in a location that is in the game, and that could lead to flash backs. It’s not fair and I don’t find it amusing because it’s common. Same when people have fun crashing trains tbh, don’t find it funny because people are traumatised by those events
This is something I questioned elsewhere on the forum. Remember their trip to visit the VT 390, I wonder if they started/planned the route back then but maybe something went wrong with gaining the VT licence shortly after, so work stopped on the route? Once they gained an Avanti licence they were able to continue building it - who knows!?!
You might want to look at what facts are. Saying they should be locked up is an insult, not a fact. I highly doubt you'd like it if someone said the same about you.
As a console player, its really not good to realise that there is no real hope of a busier timetable on this route. PC is king with the amount of modding you can do.
There's every possibility of a revised timetable for all platforms. I remain optimistic, that all community issues highlighted on the forum, will be addressed. The timetable in reality has been highlighted from the pre release livestream. The core program memory leak that affects all platforms, degradeding frame rate from launching tsw5 ,or from layering either from adding dlc to the core or in-game layering. Could and should have been spotted in an earlier build. Not a technical expert,it would've been good if the community manager had come forward and highlighted what the issues are. It would have calmed the fierce pushback from the community. Whether Dovetail felt some personal hurt from the feedback, shouldn't have stopped them from making a general statement, that A, the release date wasn't realistic for a launch. B,a good timetable from the off would have gone some way to mitigate the bugs while Dovetail got to work on patches and updates. As the last thirty nine pages have pointed out; the WCML south and the core update/build that is TSW 5 are not without problems.Ive only run the West Coast intensively since launch and bearly touched the two other new routes. Personally the suspension not being implemented across all dlc at launch was another example, TSW 5 simply wasn't ready. Hopefully Dovetail; when there's a next time;should come to the community and say we need another month or so, rather than just hitting a launch date. And with the Consoles having the worst of the launch, they could also have said to the community, they would be prioritising them in the short-term .I personally would've been good with that too.
Alex alluded to there being a patch imminently, and it seems to be pretty substantial. I'd like to think Rivet have had their knuckles rapped for this, but in reality, we all know that probably won't be the case. They've been pumping out shoddy work for a long time and if DTG have deemed acceptable previously, not much will change.
I think the Class 350 camera is overdramatic. I mean there is no such a difference in speed reduction between braking on 28% and braking on 40% so that the camera would fly right up to the windshield so hard.
I just hope one day DLC is all released of a decent consistent quality, that Steam and heritage diesels get a fair release schedule and are not abandoned with a string of excuses. Whatever I say here about modern stuff UK based it deserves better than this. I also can't believe that on the 3rd major Train simulation platform the routes are getting shorter (MSTS had Euston to Liverpool and many lines in between for free) TSC had Euston to Birmingham and TSW ends at Milton Keynes. Train Sim 2030 will end at Watford Junction at this rate. The excuses that it's hard to develop for wear thin especially with some of us who have been around for decades. It's ridiculous that we now get less for more cost. The quality should be A1 now not inconsistent depending on developer and country being modelled. I will keep beating this drum as will others. Maybe it's time for a new platform if the best WCML that can be produced is the current one. Oh hang on what's JT doing again.....?
Some do want to imply that the PC is sort of minority user base, that old community manager did it time after time, that 'failure' bloke. I agree that sometimes more work should be put into the consoles especially long term issues but then DTG tend to ignore them after a while don't they? As for the different specs on the PC you usually can set the graphical options in the settings for your PC so I don't think it is fair saying there are loads of different versions. Fully agree, there used to be a mental institution not far from where I live and in that village they had a railway bridge that was easily accessible and so mental patients used to go down there and jump off the bridge in front of trains. Sometimes you would get a couple a week doing this and what it must do to a driver seeing a body hitting the windscreen must of been horrendous, and then you had the people that had to go round collecting body parts. We know there are many railway workers that enjoy this game and triggering them is unfair and not warranted at all but DTG will carry on and do what is best for them I suppose.
Unfortunately, what they should do and what their profit hungry paymasters tell them to do are two completely different animals.
The fanboys and apologists will say "oh it's too much work for the poor employees of DTG and 3rd parties". Nonsense, stop doing unnecessary gimmicks and give us more track please. There was no excuse for not taking WCML further as they copied and pasted some of it from TSW2.
When I read that it was ending at MK I just basically fired up TSC and drove my Pendo to Brum, then thought nah not buying that until they sort out the 710 timetable.
