Wcml South Feedback

Passengers walking out in front of trains, spawning on the tracks and standing so close to the platform edge are all terribly bad issues with TSW that DTG has failed to fix over several years, despite massive amounts of feedback. Yes, it’s a game, but if I was a TOC, I would not be licensing my branding. DTG doesn’t allow trains crashing in the game, but is ok with suicidal passengers. Hmm.

Quite literally also you got train drivers on this game who may have experienced it in a location that is in the game, and that could lead to flash backs. It’s not fair and I don’t find it amusing because it’s common. Same when people have fun crashing trains tbh, don’t find it funny because people are traumatised by those events

This is something I questioned elsewhere on the forum.

Remember their trip to visit the VT 390, I wonder if they started/planned the route back then but maybe something went wrong with gaining the VT licence shortly after, so work stopped on the route? Once they gained an Avanti licence they were able to continue building it - who knows!?!

Exactly mate. I just don't understand how you can release that route in such poor condition....

You might want to look at what facts are.

Saying they should be locked up is an insult, not a fact. I highly doubt you'd like it if someone said the same about you.

The analysis on this runs deep, bottom line is they released it, why should be simple to answer.

Well the route is so unnaturally quiet they'll likely all be fine to walk along the tracks.

Rivet have their own timetable book, most of the pages are missing.

As a console player, its really not good to realise that there is no real hope of a busier timetable on this route. PC is king with the amount of modding you can do.

There's every possibility of a revised timetable for all platforms.
I remain optimistic, that all community issues highlighted on the forum, will be addressed.
The timetable in reality has been highlighted from the pre release livestream.
The core program memory leak that affects all platforms, degradeding frame rate from launching tsw5 ,or from layering either from adding dlc to the core or in-game layering.
Could and should have been spotted in an earlier build.
Not a technical expert,it would've been good if the community manager had come forward and highlighted what the issues are.
It would have calmed the fierce pushback from the community.
Whether Dovetail felt some personal hurt from the feedback, shouldn't have stopped them from making a general statement, that A, the release date wasn't realistic for a launch.
B,a good timetable from the off would have gone some way to mitigate the bugs while Dovetail got to work on patches and updates.
As the last thirty nine pages have pointed out; the WCML south and the core update/build that is TSW 5 are not without problems.Ive only run the West Coast intensively since launch and bearly touched the two other new routes.
Personally the suspension not being implemented across all dlc at launch was another example, TSW 5 simply wasn't ready.
Hopefully Dovetail; when there's a next time;should come to the community and say we need another month or so, rather than just hitting a launch date.
And with the Consoles having the worst of the launch, they could also have said to the community, they would be prioritising them in the short-term .I personally would've been good with that too.

Alex alluded to there being a patch imminently, and it seems to be pretty substantial. I'd like to think Rivet have had their knuckles rapped for this, but in reality, we all know that probably won't be the case. They've been pumping out shoddy work for a long time and if DTG have deemed acceptable previously, not much will change.

I think the Class 350 camera is overdramatic. I mean there is no such a difference in speed reduction between braking on 28% and braking on 40% so that the camera would fly right up to the windshield so hard.

I just hope one day DLC is all released of a decent consistent quality, that Steam and heritage diesels get a fair release schedule and are not abandoned with a string of excuses. Whatever I say here about modern stuff UK based it deserves better than this. I also can't believe that on the 3rd major Train simulation platform the routes are getting shorter (MSTS had Euston to Liverpool and many lines in between for free) TSC had Euston to Birmingham and TSW ends at Milton Keynes. Train Sim 2030 will end at Watford Junction at this rate. The excuses that it's hard to develop for wear thin especially with some of us who have been around for decades. It's ridiculous that we now get less for more cost. The quality should be A1 now not inconsistent depending on developer and country being modelled. I will keep beating this drum as will others. Maybe it's time for a new platform if the best WCML that can be produced is the current one. Oh hang on what's JT doing again.....?

Some do want to imply that the PC is sort of minority user base, that old community manager did it time after time, that 'failure' bloke. I agree that sometimes more work should be put into the consoles especially long term issues but then DTG tend to ignore them after a while don't they? As for the different specs on the PC you usually can set the graphical options in the settings for your PC so I don't think it is fair saying there are loads of different versions.

Fully agree, there used to be a mental institution not far from where I live and in that village they had a railway bridge that was easily accessible and so mental patients used to go down there and jump off the bridge in front of trains. Sometimes you would get a couple a week doing this and what it must do to a driver seeing a body hitting the windscreen must of been horrendous, and then you had the people that had to go round collecting body parts.
We know there are many railway workers that enjoy this game and triggering them is unfair and not warranted at all but DTG will carry on and do what is best for them I suppose.

The fanboys and apologists will say "oh it's too much work for the poor employees of DTG and 3rd parties". Nonsense, stop doing unnecessary gimmicks and give us more track please. There was no excuse for not taking WCML further as they copied and pasted some of it from TSW2.

When I read that it was ending at MK I just basically fired up TSC and drove my Pendo to Brum, then thought nah not buying that until they sort out the 710 timetable.

The length really is the worst part of driving this route, just feels underwhelming especially in a 390

How bad is the timetable again?

I've just done a Javelin service on SEHS from St Pancras to Faversham. The amount of traffic on the Chatham Main Line between Rochester and Faversham is insane. I even discovered a previously hidden AI steam railtour which travels the line.

Really puts WCML, from TSW5, to shame, when a route from TSW3 has a timetable 1000x better (even if you took out all the railtours and extra services).

Ironically, the WCML is busier. If only TSW reflected that.

The sad thing is that, even if most major bugs are fixed, it probably won't ever get extended. The ECML was crying out for a Pboro-KX extension, which likely won't happen.

IMO it is really bad, 390 services are missing, some 350 services stop at stops in game which aren't in IRL. No railtours. Big massive Gaps in the London Overground timetable.
Also only having 1 variant of the 350 is a disgrace when you you 4 variants. Disappointing.
Also PIS is so incorrect it is just terrible.

It's also interesting how Victoria to Brighton, with its 1500 services and variety of trains runs absolutely fine on my series X. That route was released 3 years ago, and yet the WCML, with its incomplete, messy timetable crashes on arrival into Euston, or has frame rate in the single digits. I find it infuriating at how much the standard has seemingly dropped.

If they’d just done some proper diversions onto slow lines and around the back of Willesden on the reliefs it could have been so much more.

This was flagged to Matt P who was already aware of the squiffy routing. It was rumoured that it was to change it, but not sure if they'll bother with it. Hopefully they can with a timetable rewrite, would be quite nice to take the Southern units down to West London Junction.

At least with ECML we have 80 miles to enjoy and stretch the legs of an azuma on this route by the time you blink again you are at Bletchley

There's also the new graphics, lighting and simulation that plays into account. In my experience, dlcs with the new graphics use about 50% more memory

On PS5, i haven't had a single crash on this route so far. Mind you that i dont own Goblin but Bakerloo. Dont know if theres a problem with the Overground trains (hence a hint why the tinetable is as sparse) but thats only an Idea.

I didn't experience any crashes on the PS5 until I was driving in a storm and entering the tunnels outside of Euston and the game crashed 3 times (reset it 3 times to see if it would reoccur).

"We really love the West Coast Main Line". Now I know the people who reviewed this likely have no knowledge of railways, but for me WCCL really does not look particularly nice, and does not run as smoothly as other routes, and both of these observations were not only obvious when I played it, but also don't require any railway knowledge to notice. I honestly have not played the WCCL for, I'd say, two weeks and unless there has been a major unannounced/missed update I assume these two things remain.
Also that last comment is just nonsense, not only has it been said many, many times what the World in Train Sim World means, but there are also routes from places other than these three countries. If they are going to critique DTG at least do it on something that deserves, and needs critiquing!

Anyway I'll get back in my box now and rewatch the football highlights to get my mind off WCCL! ;)

I had a couple of Playstation gift cards for my birthday so bit the bullet and purchased the WCCL and 390 (Well, it wasn't my money lol), Holy moly it's bad, I've had various crashes, done services with hardly any AI traffic. The Bakerloo line section from Queen's park to Harrow and Wealdstone looks terrible in comparison to the other sections of the route, was it really copied and pasted from TSW2?

I think any criticism is founded and like you I'll be calling it WCCL from now on lol. The timetable is shocking.

I mean - game journalists and their reviews are a whole rabbit hole full of topics. The reviews are, I would say, real, but they're from people who don't know railroads and have spent 3-5 hours in the game, probably. They will stay in the cab probably the whole time, not mess around and on they go to write a review. They might spend a bit more time with large releases, but TSW is a quick review for them. Despite that, I think they should be capable of identifying at least some of the issues (lights and washed colors, for example)...

you can take (in real) units from West London Junction into Wembley Yard via the Relief Lines.

you could have a SO duty (as per the real ones) with everything sharing the slow lines in the evenings. Currently there are two jobs with slow line diversions but they are very late on whereas the Saturday ones are in daylight (summer) hours.

So do I, well not into Wembley Yard but WL Jnc to Hemel. And I’ve suffered being on many a late night VT/AWC Manchester to London via the Slows on my way home from a days travels.

Following my twilight drive on the route last night, got to wonder what the deal is with the reflective posts at various locations lineside along the route. From the daytime trips think it’s the cable supports but can’t see these would need to be reflective in train headlights.

Definitely noticed the floodlights at Ledburn Junction lighting the whole area up like a football pitch. Why?

Tunnel textures on the fast lines at Primrose Hill and Watford, noticeable texture repeating every few yards with a triangular dark patch on the otherwise rather too light Superquick scanned brick paper. Totally wrecks the immersion.

Ledburn is often illuminated like this in real life, it's due to previous events at that junction and also for maintenance crews to be able to work safely there, it's a very important junction in the running of WCML South so has a lot of work carried out on it to keep it in tip top shape.

DTG have confirmed on the stream they are looking at updating WCMLS timetable once the initial crashing/texture patches are out the way, which is great news. I hope they do it justice and make it as accurate as possible with regard to real train movements. This is especially good for console players who will not be able to benefit from the PC modding community timetable that is being worked on.
