The cursor speed when selecting which switches to change in the map mode is too sensitive. Even with the sensitivity turned to the lowest setting it is a painstaking process trying to highlight the correct icons.
I agree that it is at times very frustrating trying to lock on to the switches. In fact a lock on function would also be useful for selecting cab controls! Not sure if you know this but you can "fly around" and change the points/switches while using the free camera. It can make it much quicker and easier.
