I still don't understand how passenger behaviour can be so inconsistent. I got TSW 5 and the first thing I did was continue with a saved journey on West Somerset. Passengers were getting on and off the train at each stop, using more than one door along the carriages.

Then I started journey mode on the new Frankfurt – Fulda... And so far, in each chapter, the train is packed full of passengers from the start, and that's how it remains on both ends of the run. Nobody gets on, nobody gets off.

On the run I did with Flixtrain, there was no one on my train at the start and no one boarded at the intermediate station. Effectively ran empty stock.

I remember back in the late 60’s or early 70’s, “when I were a lad”, there was a cheap train from the North East to London. Think it was called The Highwayman. However the caveat was it terminated at Finsbury Park, not Kings Cross. And I bet it didn’t get a Deltic for power, more like a Class 40 or maybe a Duff hauling some run down Mark Ones.

Before my time, but I am certain from Class 40 archives it was a booked 40 turn.

Certainly sounds plausible. Unfortunately as my parents weren’t that well off, they rarely used the train to travel anywhere so trips via London to visit relatives in the south used to be by coach. I always kicked up a bit of a fuss, but funny how your perception changes - I would pay good money now for a 7 hour thrash along the A1/M1 in a United Automobiles RELH coach with that glorious Gardner engine and transmission singing!

Though I agree with your statement, TSW5 will be the last entry for Gen 8 support. Sony will cease supporting the console at the start of 2025. People will need to start putting in some thought into buying a Gen 9 console soon or get left behind when it comes to new content.

  10. "We've had to make some difficult decisions based on the capabilities of the hardware - we'd seen a lot of performance issues with all the content included on WCML, so we've had to remove them in order for the content to run. It's been our #1 priority as we've got closer to release. This sort of route is very performance intensive with the extra traffic, and we were finding that the Gen8 experience was less than acceptable with the content we've subsequently removed present in it."

Last weekend I atempted to play TSW 5, but was pretty fast frustrated about the routes and missing connections. That got me thinking about solutions on how to connect routes.
What I would love to happen is, that DTG offers a connection package. For example the two Dresden routes could be connected. Yes there must be a new timetable, for some routes there is an extension needed and/or a change in era. Of course this must be a paid addon just because of the work that has to go into it. So the conditions could be that one has to own the routes and with this addon you would connect the two routes getting in fact a complete new route. Am I making sense?

this is something DTG has said is impossible for years. the timetable and era being the biggest problem. a connection package on TSC like RSSLO did for München to Vienna connecting about 5 routes together I think I learned recently only works if you buy the routes from them and not through steam. I think route hopping is throwing a band aid on a gunshot wound. and allthough it is cool. the already mentioned problems still exist.

With the threads about problems with saving and reloading games (I don't know I barely use it) I think there is some more to do before a big connected world is possible. So however cool. I think we are a few years from seeing it happen, although, I think it will be possible. and I appreciate DTG trying. Railways are varied and it's difficult to make something work for everyone to enjoy.

I think a few years is sadly optimistic. It took them 5-6 years just to acknowledge that save games caused permanent red aspects and fixed that one issue. So unless they have a major dev team expansion and/or refresh, I think it's much further out than a few years.

Of course, I'm saying all these things like this, or that the dev team isn't up to scratch, in the hopes that it pushes them to prove me wrong :)

Maybe making two timetables for WCML on gen8 that allow to play also the 377/2, 72 stock and class 66 in one timetable, the second timetable for 350 and 390 hope will help to have all layers playable also on gen8

oh yeah I'm optimistic in hoping it will even see daylight. my estimate was for if they started working on it now. however I fully expect that route hopping with all it's issues will stay as the "solution" however a player can dream of the possibilities like driving a full RJ service from München to Wien one day.

For the 56’s BR Blue and the 60’s BR Sector livery. In fact even a Class 70 would look good in BR Blue or Railfreight livery.

and class 90 in (unbranded?) freightliner livery. Class 91 in intercity swallow livery. Surely ex privation liveries doesnt need to get licensed now does it?

No, because they're not owned by anyone except the government. A license is needed still, but easier to get that way.

The 56 is one that baffles me as to why they havent bothered and the 60 to some extent, the 56 could be on practically every UK route. Even now they still get about. The 60 is similar, but no have another 66 fans.

I don't know the ins and outs of it, but I believe the BR InterCity brand and livery is now owned by LSL?

    Enough is enough!

As reported in the appropriate feedback threads it appears the DTG coders once again broke the save game.

Twice now I have been unable to restart a passenger service after saving at a station stop. First on Koln to Aachen with a 442 which would not take power. Second yesterday evening with a 350, stopped at Hemel with passenger loading in progress. Resuming the game I was prompted to open the doors which were already open. Couldn’t open or close with any method to eliminate the stuck objective message. In both instances a physics reset was no help.

I suppose we had better be circumspect as last time we complained about the save game, DTG expediently fixed it by removing the feature entirely. In the meantime my advice is, if you insist on playing this pile of crud and need to save the game, don’t do it at a station.

But I for one am getting a bit cheesed off having paid the not inconsiderable sum of £54 for TSW5 to find this ongoing stuttering, juddering bug infested mess in front of me. Remind me next year not to jump in with both feet for TSW6. Also seriously considering just how much more money I sink into this pile of dung until it’s properly fixed and that’s even starting to include the JT WCML route, if the core platform is so unstable.

    Enough really is enough.

This issue is as old as save game feature in TSW itself.

Might be that you're aware about this, but the workaround I found for this issue is not to save game at stops (stations) during passengers load/unload. Just wait for this few additional seconds and save just right after you close the doors and start moving. It works fine for me all the time.

Not for me. I have always been able to save at stations and resume without issue, until these latest TSW5 patches. The only previous issue is the well documented being unable to save reliably if you have chained another run by returning to free roam rather than back to the main menu.

I would have been day one for the JT but the judders are right back in the game. I haven't bothered with the save mind much but may just get the AP 87 and run it on the RSC route.

Saving at stations has been working fine for me.

I don't think any user, of any software, should become satisfied with a workaround. We should keep pushing the developer to fix their problems.

As he got the permanent red signal bug fixed in the save game before, I'm sure DTG Matt will agree with me on that.

oh and not to mention (maybe again if it hasnt already). Enough with the 66 already i want to stop paying them. DTG is just making the situation worse by adding more variants.

Don't think there's much dtg can do if that's the only loco they are allowed to make. It depends on licensing and access at the end of the day and I wouldn't be surprised if it's restricted to the 66

Why does it seem that dtg are losing more and more licensing for tsw? And what happens when there's none left, is that the end for tsw?

I'm all for more BR era routes. Dtg seem to have strayed away from these. I seem to remember talk of these types of routes not being good sellers.
BR sim world gets my vote though. I guess I can't call it world.

Yeah, I remember that. I think it's fair to say JT proved DTG wrong with that, I mean if BPO didn't sell well, why would they create another for starters. If NTP and/or TVL didn't hit DTG's sales expectations, maybe it's because the timetables were poor, especially NTP.

BPO had a great timetable that help made it a great route.

I think unbranded trains are widely more digestible than entirely fictional ones. Of course the most ideal outcome is a fully licensed product with all the right liveries and signage, but not every route can be GOBLIN. Of course there will always be a grumble somewhere when a license isn't possible, but the approach of WCML to cleanly debrand the 350 but keep certain recognisable but not corporately identifying parts of the livery is a good one that I think people can at the very least begrudgingly tolerate. It doesn't bother me so much, I see a 350 in white and green coming and I know exactly what it is.

This is different to the 484 however where Rivet didn't debrand it, but rather completely parodied and altered the livery into a fictional one. That I can completely get behind why people complain about it.

Yeah without a doubt one of the best routes available. They chose a route with a lot available rolling stock.

Ntp and tvl are good routes also, especially now there are timetables available, adding some more services.

I imagine Preston to Carlisle will also sell well.

Yeah if the colour scheme is right then it's a bit hard to notice the branding missing as the come past. I guess another way to look at it is, you wouldn't notice if your not familiar with with the route and branding.

I didn't really notice the difference with the 484. Not being familiar with it. But yeah I can see where people are coming from if it's a fictional paint job.

I think unbranded trains are completely fine to fill up the world, but the centerpiece should be branded. In some cases unbranded could even help. There is according to a screenshot in another thread a "heritage" train with the Santa Fe F7 in San Bernardino, unbranded coaches without MBTA and other liveries would work better than the branded ones used there currently.

They could have gotten a much better result simply by taking the Island Line branding off. The same goes for the 483, though that being said I don't complain at that since the NSE livery wasn't fictional, just out of time.

Well, I have to admit since I had issues with returning to the service, just like these described by OldVern, when I was saving i.e. during passenger load (in TSW2 and 3), I have stopped saving on stops and start during the run. As I'm still on TSW4 I'll give it a try and check if I can successfully return to the service which was saved during stop on the station.

I'm not satisfied with the workaround, it quite funny that every time I'm loading game from a save, I'm sincerely surprised that it had actually loaded and all is working fine - this is the kind of experience only TSW can provide dated TSW2 ;)

Meanwhile what we have in WCML:
Is not only simply a debranding of the real livery, but also could be taken as a somewhat believable halfway point between these two liveries:

That is a big difference. I can see why some may have a problem with it.
The colour of the 350 is slightly different also. I've passed them on the watford line a few times and wouldn't have noticed the difference, until compared side by side.
