I am reaching out to whoever has a lot of experience with this game on building my 10-mile route so that they can help me with scenery guidance and route envisioning. I am also looking for help with gradients. How do I make them, and how do I make it a percentage?
Route building is quite complex and I doubt you will find many prepared to give an in depth tutorial. If you do a bit of Googling there is a Wiki style page, possibly semi official, that does run through much of the basic functionality. Otherwise it’s very much a case of trial, error and self learning. Certainly start with a fictional route, maybe even an upscaled model or miniature railway to get the hang of things. Don’t think you need to rush to publish your “masterpiece” on the Workshop. Be prepared to start and scrap several projects before you find the sweet spot!
For Christ's sake Vern, if you know of a resource post the bloody URL.. https://railworks.fandom.com/wiki/Route_building_tutorial
Might wanna check out this one by Brandon, now DTG dev. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/good-route-building-tutorial-from-cactusjuice.83769/
If you take a look on YouTube, there's plenty of route building tutorials. When it comes to gradients, it's a bit of a tricky process! I found it best to snap to terrain then use the smoothing tool. Getting gradients perfect I could never get the hang of.
Keep yer hair on... I was posting from the phone at the time so not exactly easy to jump around finding links. Not to mention if the OP had done some Googling would probably have found it themselves. Shesesh, this place sometimes...
