I think I already know the answer, but I have to ask... Are DTG able to set Steam updates to DLC to just download the entire .pak file again? Honestly, the patching process of unpacking and repacking just takes an age, even on an m.2 drive. I've got a 900Mb line, it would be much, much quicker for me to just download the entire .pak(s) rather than download the deltas and have the PC patch locally.
As mentioned in the OP, the game is stored on an m.2 drive. CPU is a 5800X3D with 32GB of RAM... the PC and storage are not the issue. Yesterday's update took around 20 minutes.
That is the de facto standard for patching to save on server bandwidth. Won't change. Have a cup of coffee or play something else during updating. Bit of a luxury problem.
I schedule the games to update in the early hours of the morning when I'm not using my pc. This way if there are any pending updates, they won't stop me from playing.
Yes. But the core also gets patched, so you would need to remove that too. Also, paks get patched that are not mentioned in the patch notes (BCC, RR Class 323). Good luck in first finding out what you need to uninstall.
So the only way to be sure would be to uninstall and redownload the entire game. There goes any net gain for OP.
Is it really sooo hard to wait 20 minutes? Just download a 1GB patch for Nightingale, it won't even take a minute, but then you'll be waiting hours for everything to be unpacked, patched and repacked. It's not the end of the world.
Same with me my update only took about 5mins to do as well, not sure why yours took 20mins to complete.
Depends on how much content is affected / you own. If you own all affected DLC, it was 55 GB of data to be patched. This + core paks and exes.
