I’ve got a copy of the 1981GBTT on the PC upstairs so I’ll take a look later if I remember. Off the top of my head think it was around 1hr 10” for a non stop loco hauled run, then add 5” for each station stop so calling at Lancaster, Oxenholme and Penrith would be around 1hr 25”.

Been trying to learn the class 87 through YouTube tutorials and have I got this right.

You go into run up or notch up to accelerate ensuring the dials stay in green or amber and not red?

And are notch up or run up both the same?

Then to reduce power output go to run down or notch down?

And to coast go into hold.

Have I got that right or am I wrong?

Then off is simply off. Power handle locked

The 87 has 40 (?) Notches of power. Notch up and notch down increase/decrease by one each time. Run up/down continually increases/decreases.

Hold maintains that notch of power.

Off immediately cuts power completely but you must wait for the tap changer to run down to notch 0 before re-applying power. Therefore it's better to leave the handle in run down unless you need to move it to off.

To give a smooth ride you need to think ahead and plan ahead. It takes skill and patence and practice. Moving the power straight to off will result in a jolt rippling through the train.

Working off my knowledge of German tap changers, the locos certainly don’t like immediate power cuts and you will damage them over time doing it.

a couple is 2. The updates are every two weeks from September 11th until release. However, it's now 1/2 past 5 (pm) and we still haven't had an update so the next one will either be tomorrow or next week

    Update to my earlier post:
In 1981 a non stop electric hauled service was booked 1hr 14min from Preston to Carlisle, a semi fast calling at all three principal intermediate stations was 1hr 28min. Probably not a whole lot different in 86. We are going to get a fantastic long rn with this one.

I thought the updates came on Thursdays rather than Wednesdays?

I'm thinking that while it is showing in the 0-3 months bracket on the roadmap that since some other route has been confirmed for release on 29th October that this route will come after it :( Still, I've got three weeks off in December, if I can wait that long :)

I suspect (and I might be way off) that it will be released within a week or two of the next roadmap. Then again I thought we would get a fairly imminent release date for GWE remaster and that isn't even in the 0 - 3 months section!

I grew up along side the WCML and used to watch the trains all the time,in the period it's set that's correct that the trains were only loco hauled in the BR blue era

The route is set in 1986, 3 years before the class 90 & DVT was introduced

No, just the traction amps going to each bogie.
The 19 notches up and 19 down aren't shown.

I'm afraid you're wrong there. I suggest anyone interested in the details of these locos and how they're driven check the BR Manuals such as this one here: Locomotive Repair Books, Record Cards, Manuals and Driver's Handbooks. (locodocs.co.uk) rather than relying on the spurious information that might be posted in this forum.

And which part of what I said was wrong?
If you are referring to the 'Notch Indicator' next to the ammeters, that was just a % of the taps selected, not the actual count.

The ammeters show the current drawn by each traction motor not each bogie and the use of the term "19 notches up and 19 down" makes no sense, to me at least. You're correct in saying the meters labelled "Notch Indicator" don't show the actual notch the tap changer is in but by showing the percentage tap they give a very good indication of the tap changer's position.

I have been.. I've given up now and I'll try again on Wednesday. JT also announce the dev updates on Social Media so I've been checking FB every now and then to see if they have announced another.. I wouldn't have minded if they said "sorry no update this week" on Social Media.. I bet there hasn't been one because Tuesday was Roadmap Day

In fairness to JT, when I say to the Mrs I'll do something in a couple of weeks or so, it usually isn't done 6 months later so by my timescales (and I am sure I'm not the only one here guilty of this;)) JT will be well on time, even if we had to wait another week. Must admit I am looking forward to the next update a lot as Carlisle looked great in that short clip, during the middle of the night last time!

Considering they said the next update will be out 'in a couple of weeks or so' from the last that probably means they don't want to adhere to a fixed schedule of updates, so we'll probably see them more irregularly for the time being with more frequent updates coming out closer to release

If only.. I hope next year's JT route is a 1980s southern route so we could finally see the Class 50 in game and possibly a slam-door unit as well or the ECML set in the 70s so we could get the Deltics in their prime

1960s GEML with maroon AM9's anyone? I'd pay a lot of money for a early AC EMU in this game. That's just wishlisting for now though, while patiently waiting for more info...:o

Only if DTG significantly rework how steam physics function in this game, which will probably never happen...

I wonder why they don't fit the cars with a simple softshadow texture underneath.... costs zero performance.

but it isn't as they are doing Preston - Carlisle. Skegness is on the otherside of the country.

This will be the Morecambe branch

This'll be one immersive route... Can't wait for the tap changer of the 87 (and hopefully the 86 if that's the next loco add on.). I've nothing against the combined power handle of modern units as they are interesting in their own way. But having to concentrate on the tap changing and brakes will really take some concentration and skill.

I believe tomorrow's update will be a 'station history' article on the stations on the Morecambe Branch as they did say one was coming when they [Just Trains] did a 'station history' article for the main stations. I think it's a bit early for an release date announcement..

After just having a look on the update articles for Blackpool Branches (https://www.justtrains.net/in-development/tsw-blackpool-preston-ormskirk-route-addon), JT never announced the release date on their website - It was DTG who announced it on a Blackpool Branches-sentric article which (as always) was released exactly two weeks before release so we could see the release date being announced in late October to early November if it's due for release before December

Don't think that was there in the era set, Eric may have still been around, certainly remember him on TV around then. Spent many days in Morecambe in the 80s and early 90s before they pulled the Pleasure park latterly called Frontierland down. The station was in a right state early 90s. Once a busy seaside town terminus it had BR sans serif signage all over and full track layout intact but in an extremely poor state.
