Yeah, its actually a pretty sad topic for me personally. But on the same time, I want to give a good recommendation to everyone in this forum, at least if you like cars.

One of my favorite games ever, Forza Horizon 4, is soon to be delisted on 15th of December from digital stores because of licensing issues.

The publisher, Playgroud Games, stated this back in June:

"Due to licensing and agreements with our partners, Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from digital platforms (Microsoft Store and Steam) on December 15, 2024. This means the game and its additional content will no longer be available for purchase through online stores.

    [...]

On December 15, Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from stores and Xbox Game Pass. This means the game and its additional content will no longer be available for purchase. Players who already own the game and its content will be able to download and play it as normal, including its offline, online, and multiplayer features; physical copies of the game purchased after this date will also work and will be able to use online features."

    Source: https://forza.net/news/forza-horizon-4-delisting

This should make us all aware how license issues can actually end up, so its good that DTG takes this matter very seriously. So should we all.

However, why do I talk about this here? Because I want to give a recommendation to anyone interested to get this game before its gone. Its honestly one of the best games I've ever played and its much more than just a regular race game. You don't need to engage with races at all, if you don't like them. You can simply drive your favorite car and enjoy the beautifully landscape of Edinburgh and its surroundings, in a scaled down, yet absolutley authentic format, showing Scotland in a fantastic way.

I actually own the Deluxe Edition, however I wish I had bought the Ultimate Edition because it got all DLCs included. A shame that the developer overnight decided to take all of its DLCs out of the stores, leaving me with the ridiculous but only option to buy the Ultimate Edition on a different Steam account again. However, I can tell even that would be completely worth it in my opinion. So I had so many hours of fun with this game.

If you don't own the game before, the Ultimate Edition is the best option because as said above it offers all DLCs, which are not available to purchase separately anymore.

It's a fabulous game, in which you can drive real cars on a real (but scaled down) landscape at absolutely stunning graphics and just have fun to do whatever you want to do, drive around, create your own liveries or just participate with a few others mates at the special Forzathon multiplayer event happening each and every full hour.

You also drive every car with its cab, just like we're used to in Train Sim World or ETS/ATS, and enhance immersion in a way to simulate physics and mechanism to real life behavior, so that it comes closer to an actuall car simulator rather than a racing game.

Oh and did I forgot to mention that the seasons change every week at Thursday? Means while you only have one map, you have a map in 4 different themes with 4 different types of weather and road conditions, plus different vegetation and events.

All I can say is, Grab this game before its gone. There probably will be some discounts in the next 2 months until the game disappears off stores on December 15th, so I highly recommend you to grab it at least there.

Here are a few screenshots I made in the game. I only can upload 5, but actually have 1000s on my hard drive I wish I can show you. Maybe I will upload more in some following posts, if I'm allowed to.

    Screenshot (4864).png

Oh and another very, very important point, especially for the fans of steam engines.

Beside the one race against it,

the Flying Scotsman is actually actively spawning on the map in free roam. Lets you do make some stunning photos if you're quick...

or other funny things, like chasing it or ramming against it. Spoiler: The battle between your car and the Flying Scotsman, will not end that good for you car.

Only played the demo, but looks fantastic. The foliage/scenery is great, has a very realisic feel to it. Would be great to have this level of foliage and distant scenery detail in TSW.

It´s a great game indeed, I bought the Ultimate Edition a few years ago and never regretted it.
I like it way more than Forza Horizon 5, even though it has a smaller map.

Forza Horizon 4 is a wonderful game and in my view, the best Horizon game. I have invested a lot of hours into it and it’s sad that it’s time has come.

I also enjoy FH5 and still play each week to get the new rewards. I don’t have all the cars, but I’m pretty close. Hopefully with the introduction of backstage pass, I can fill the gaps.

Hopefully one day we’ll get version 6. Would love to see a Forza game based in Japan

Oh eck, I'll have to buy this then. I love a good drive in real life, though living in Lincolnshire, even with the areas sheer natural beauty, it can get a bit, dull, after covering every road within a few miles of my house, so I do love a good drive in Forza 4 as well. In actual fact the game has prompted me to take a few diversions on my trips to Scotland, though just missed by Forza 4 the 69 and 68 from the M6 to A1 rather than the 66 are so much better. Excellent game!

If you want alternatives to just the 69 may I suggest coming off a Heddon if your travelling West and taking the B6318 'Military road' until Greenhead where you rejoin the 69. Much more picturesque, straighter (and quicker) you run along what's basically Hadrian's wall for the most part, well what remains. You can continue along the 6318 through Gilsland to Lanercost, Brampton, Longtown to Gretna and M6 north.
Returning may I suggest going down to the A66 (does get way better west of Penrith I promise) but at Penrith taking the A686 to Langwathby (S&C!) and Alston before continuing to Hexham and the A69. Real drivers road! Longer but way more engaging drive!

Played this game from end to back, full on, and I love it so much.
In my opinion, the map is so much better than Forza Horizon 5 for the sole fact it isn't just completely empty and boring.
Genuinely hope the next horizon game's map will be more interesting.

Is this in the game or real life?!

IRL I once did the Kielder Forest road which is mostly gravel in a bog standard Ford Sierra. That was interesting!

Anyhow at £54 a bit steep and even dearer than Forza 5 but think I will take the plunge between now and it going off sale.

I can't speak for the game sadly, I was meaning real life. The B6318 used to be my commute into Newcastle every day from West Cumbria and any time I'd return to the office from down south on the M6 I'd take the A686 over hartside.

Sierra were the puppies croutons back when the RAC rally was a proper rally. 2 days in kielder, 2 days in grisdale, both night and day, in the forest, in November! Walk ten mile t'pit and pay t'pit owner for privilege of working!
I don't know which was the madder us or the cars!

I was at my gaming happiest with the old Magnetic Fields Rally Championship from 1999, which featured all the GB Rally courses in full length and glory. Classics like Kershope and Pundershaw when you would limp over the finish with half the gears missing. I really must try and get that working once more.

Out of curiosity, does FH4 include any off road rally style sections?

Thanks RobertSchulz, I've put the Ultimate Edition on my wishlist and hope it will have a decent discount in the Steam Autumn Sale (Nov 27th).

Didn't have time for this yet as I'm occupied with TSC, ETS2, SimRail, Zusi, DRS and sometimes TSW.

Really looks as if 4 was the best of the franchise, a perfect piece of software. I wasn't looking for news, so if it were not for you posting this I would have surely missed it. (I am usually buying games long after release, no need for the latest and greatest here.)

Edit: Couldn't wait... ;) will run that from my large HDD for the time being, as train sims are eating up my SSD space :D (one for C:, one for TSC and one for TSW)

Can you recommend a particular steering wheel?

FH4 is one of those games where the world isn't just a backdrop, it's almost an art. It's stunning; Edinburgh feels like Edinburgh, the villages feel real - it's truly set in Britain.

Same category as RDR2 for me.

The Mexico one is too big and sparse, so for anyone looking to try FH / the newer installments, pick up FH4.

It's good to wait sometimes, so my hardware is advanced enough. Game wants to run at 260 FPS :) Nice thing with the automatic hardware benchmarking.

I have looked in my map and that would be re-joining the M6 as it turns into the A74(M) wouldn't it? Then at the Eastern end carrying on up the A1(M) to Newcastle which I haven't done in donkeys, so sounds an interesting route, and those straights would certainly be enjoyable in my recent purchase, which I am yet to chance taking on such a long trip!
Ah, now I like the sound of that route back, even more so the look of it on a map, looks like a really nice one to drive does that. I really am looking forward to going up there just for the drives, though I fear it won't be until Spring I get a chance now, but have noted these down for sure. I am more than happy to spend more time driving if it is on a road like this, you wouldn't know any nice cafes to stop at along the way? ;)

Sorry don't mean to drag this thread off topic, though I suppose it is somewhat related.

    You're quite correct M6/M74 junction.
It's just some alternatives to the A69 and A66 east<>west. I can guarantee you with a money back guarantee that if they're not more interesting roads I'll happily pay you what you want!!

Apologies to all for the thread disruption, that is save for matt#4801. He did it Sir!!

Well we are in Off Topic so a bit of thread drift is to be expected. It’s a nice positive thread and we’re not talking about competitor train sims! And all this talk of driving around Northern England and the Scottish Borders encouraged me to get the 1999 GB RC reinstalled. Almost got it, just need the game to recognise the joypad and sort out the screen resolution, for a very nostalgic blast.

Anyhow still going to hang on and see if FH4 picks up a discount or maybe some sort of bundle with some or all of the DLC.

The player can do the story, side quests and free roam challenges (like speed traps, speed zones, drift zones) completely solo. The same goes for the race events, which do have advanced AI drivers to compete with. You can also set the difficulty level from pretty easy to win to almost unbeatable if you like.

But what the game actually makes so great is the multiplayer experience.

Finding players to have fun with in free roam, a race or any other multiplayer event like the Battle Royal style "Eliminator" is one of the strengths of the game because its so easy. All the players I've never met before and I just had occasional fun with are usually very eager to play with you, too.

There are no evil minds and also no cheaters in this game, which can ruin your experience like in the warzone of GTA Online for example. Everyone just can be as good as their skills and cars.

In every session, you can usually find people racing with each other on the motorway and you can easily participate by just joining in.

This is a fun which can take hours because you can change cars through the menu and don't need to swap them in the garage, so everyone is testing the strengths and tuning of their cars with each other.

    Screenshot (3721).png
    Screenshot (2583).png
    Screenshot (2581).png

You also can find people by one the fly, by driving with them or pretending to be the police and chasing them.
    Screenshot (6105).png

But yeah, you can also do things completely alone if you want. You also don't need to participate in any event and just enjoy the landscape and have a nice zen moment. This is an open world, Choice is yours.

I love Forza 4. Being set in Edinburgh that game has a special place in my heart. And it's just a fun wee game to play when your bored (when your not playing tsw.) shame their taking it off stores but at least multiplayer servers will still be running

According to SteamDB this has been on sale as low as £10.99 quite regularly, so almost certain can be picked up for a bargain price between now and the end.

I only own the standard edition of FH4 on XB1 but have enjoyed playing it a lot.
I only had gamepass for a short time but the level of detail and effort playground games put into it is amazing.

The mix of various places within England and Scotland makes a great drive. Bamburgh, Edinburgh, the lake district and the Cotswolds all included in a scaled down map.

FH4 was the best version of FH although that might be bias living in England, lol.

I am going to come back to this thread and it is with an on topic comment as well! I have just bought the Ultimate edition on my Xbox for the absolute bargain price of £8.50, all installed and working. I were happy to have bought it at full price, but to get it for this cheap I couldn't just not buy it and not share the deal with others.

I was just looking through the car list on the Wiki and there are some classic normal vehicles in there - Morris Minor, Hillman Imp, Reliant Three Wheeler (I almost but not quite bought one when transitioning from motorbikes to cars) and quite a few others.

Really looking forward to getting this.

Just done the Flying Scotsman challenge (using my beloved and just acquired "Kowalski" '70 Dodge Challenger R/T). It's so much fun I'll do it again (arrived only 2 seconds late on first attempt.)

Also nice there's a VW Golf II, sold mine in 1998. Great to be behind the wheel of my old car again (wasn't a GTI, but cockpit's the same).

This is a piece of software where you can feel the joy the devs had when making it. It lets you do what you want to, adjust AI difficulty to your needs, play Solo, Coop or Head to Head with someone you meet in freeroam, set up your own races for others to play or just mindlessly cruise along listening to the radio and enjoying the landscape.

Fortune Island, a northern highlands style map has just opened up for me.

I only had one crash, after a race when I switched to view the global leaderboard. Somehow it froze my PC trying to load 34 million player rankings, had to do a hard reset (Power Button)... so avoid clicking that, not important anyway ("Friends" is default)

So lookout for that white Challenger tagged with "Spikee1975" and feel free to invite me to a race :) (In Winter, I'm often using my blue Subaru Impreza WRC)

On another note, the online system is free from idiots and "griefers", as you cannot collide with other players in freeroam, only with the AI traffic. They'll just drive through you. Sometimes, there'll be nice spontaneous races in freeroam too, I've enjoyed shaking off some pursuers using sudden turns and backyard routes :). Fun to see how many players can't handle their overpowered cars :D

This game excels everywhere, be it dirt rallyes, cross country, ice roads, highspeed races, everything just feels super real and the car handling is outstanding. Perfect balance between realism and playability, with toggleable helping systems.

And it's a textbook example how to efficiently use the hardware. (TSW is quite the opposite...)

Audi Sport Quattro S1 (1985. This car was an absolute beast.) This was the final era of the Group B, which the FIA abolished in 1987 as it became too dangerous.

Will be a day or two before joining in the fun as it's a 90Gb or thereabouts download.

Wait until you see the Peel P50 and what you can do to that.

I also drove a Mk2 Golf (5 door) at one time in my driving history (21 years full UK licence holder). It was my dads work car and my parents put me on the insurance a few times to help them out. I absolutely loved driving it (no ABS or power steering) and for the last half of my final year at uni, I had it there with me after my parents let me buy it from them.
I was absolutely gutted when I was out driving to B&Q one day and as I slowed down for a roundabout, the clutch went. I had to be towed home (that was great though as it was a big American truck).
Unfortunately, at the time, I had only just returned home from uni so was job seeking and couldn't afford the repair bill.
It sat on the driveway for around 6 months and had to be scrapped due to water getting into the car making everything go mouldy and rotten.
That golf was the best car I ever had but I do love the Mk7.5 Ford Fiesta I had for 5 years and now have a Mk8.5 Fiesta.

I wonder if I buy on Steam and link my MS/XBox account to it, if my progress will be there from the XB1 version I had (haven't been able to use the XB1 for a while due to component failure and I don't have XBLive either).

A Microsoft/XBox account is required, but seems your old XB1 progress can't be imported.

Q: Is there a way to transfer my save progress or gameplay to my Steam version?

A: There is not a way to transfer saved data between Steam and Windows Store/Xbox at this time

I'll have to wait and see if it goes on heavy discount on XB1 before it is removed from the stores then.

I had some pretty controversial views about the game when it came out which the other members of GTPlanet did not appreciate. Amusingly when FH5 came out many of my views became quite popular with the community, so I was a few years ahead of them in that aspect.

The game is functionally quite decent but I found it had no personality, flair or any reason to play it above any of the other Horizon games on the Xbox One. That also applies to FH5. The series nosedived after Forza Motorsport 4 and the first Horizon game, with the exception of Forza Horizon 2 which was pretty good.

I do like MGB GTs, used to have one and were a lovely car, but haven't seen one in game up to now. Is this LH drive? If so I know what my mission will be tomorrow after work!

Ah that is a shame, though I don't think I'll be able to resist! Thanks for sharing though mate, looks great in green does that.

I weren't going to admit it, but I actually bought a car because I enjoyed it in the game, though I had had my eye on on it before. :)

You'd be surprised at what vehicles are actually in FH4.
I was trying to collect all the Euro Ford cars that were in the game when I last played it. I had to have the Mk7 Fiesta ST though and make the colour similar to what I had at the time even though mine was an ST Line and not a full fat ST (Deep Impact Blue which was a rare, premium colour on that model).
