I would love the opportunity to drive any train on any route without any restrictions to be honest. Would love it if there was an option to turn “Off the Rails” on or off for free roam or Timetable mode in TSW5.
Free Roam allows you to drive any train on any route. I could drive a German train on WSR or GWE if I wanted too. Free Roam allows you do to anything you want without being in the way of AI Trains - you have that route to yourself.. It is also possible to spawn any train into any route during timetable mode
I agree with this, If I buy the LGV, and spawn it in Free Roam, I EXPECT for it to work regardless of voltage.
exactly my point. I don’t want to make a scenario just to drive a train that’s not capabale on driving on specific routes.
Not even remotely true. Generally speaking, you can just SPAWN trains. Power compatibility is not in any way ensured in Free Roam and, what is more serious, sometimes not even adequate power sources are correctly recognised (either because of route or train limitations). The already mentioned TGV, which is in generally incompatible with any non 25kV AC line despite the in-cab power source controls, does indeed offer a good example of the issue. Moreover, in a few cases, perfectly functional trains (even a diesel in a rare case) are rendered useless by the stubborn opposition of the Dispatcher ("Unreachable Destination" and similar messages). Conversely, a few cases of unexpected compatibility do exist. For example, the Desiro-based British class 380 can be used on 15kV German routes, though it appears to be underpowered. The same used to happen with the somewhat related class 700 but, in TSW5, that is not the case anymore. The train however, still works on LIRR... In general, all of these sub-cases are rather unstable, artificially scripted and independent from any real simulation. Consequently, we are led to view the original suggestion as quite reasonable and not redundant.
That's alright.. I naturally assumed that you were generally referring to the comcept of Free Roam rather then suggesting the ability to have electrics drivable on non-electrified routes (for example)
Yeah that’s on me. I should have worded it a bit better But that’s way i mean. Having the ability to have electric trains driveable on non-electrified routes!
Last night I was trying an apples-to-apples speed test in free roam -- ICE 3 vs. TGV on Kassel-Würzburg. I got the ICE 3 up to 376 km/h! But when I spawned the TGV I couldn't get the circuit breaker to close, even when it was set to A/C, which should (as far as I know) support the German 15 kV lines. Super disappointed. I guess I should try an off-the-rails scenario. I really wanna try the TGV on Kassel-Würzburg -- it's a much more gradual gradient than parts of LGV Meditterranee which sometimes has a 3.75% gradient, and I'd imagine the TGV could scream on there.
