Tap into 1980s nostalgia and run up Just Trains’ stunning and immersive West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle coming on 21st November to Train Sim World 5!

Introducing: Just Trains and WCML ‘Over Shap’
Just Trains are one of our Programme Partner Developers who work on their own routes and locomotives for Train Sim World. Last year, Just Trains made their TSW debut with the release of the Blackpool Branches route Add-on, featuring the Class 142 Pacer DMU!
For their next release, they’ve continued to push the boundaries by developing the longest UK route in Train Sim World and introducing more sought-after rolling stock with the Class 87 locomotive and Mk 3a Coaches.
A full timetable of 1980s services features in the Add-on along with Conductor Mode functionality and plenty of layering for players that own other routes and locomotive Add-ons set in and around the same era.
There’s a lot to get into, so below find a summary of the rolling stock, route and gameplay elements that you can look forward to.

    Rolling Stock:
    BR Class 87/0 Electric Locomotive
plus BR Mk 3a Coaches, FFA/FGA container flats and BBA steel wagons

New to Train Sim World is the Class 87 electric locomotive – the first electric locomotive to be added to the British fleet in game. This classic traction from the 1970s quickly became the star of the West Coast Main Line during the 1980s, when the nationalised British Rail branding was widespread across the entire UK rail network.
In-game, the Class 87 will provide a totally unique driving experience in Train Sim World. An advanced style of operation offers a real challenge to players familiar with more modern electric units and diesel locomotives and is equally distinct from the large roster of electric locomotives seen in German Add-ons.

    TSW3_James_1729776774_00.jpg

In Just Trains’ own words: This loco takes you back to the much more interesting time when you drove a bit more by the seat of your pants and had to think and plan a lot more.
At the centre of this is tap changer operation. This phrase will be familiar to players of some of the older German locomotives in TSW, like the BR 103 and 111. With this comes a degree of jeopardy, with the potential to fail if not operated correctly. The Main Circuit Breaker (MCB) will trip cutting power to the drive motors if you try and demand higher power than the train can supply.

In addition to this, the Class 87 has a number of notable and unique features:
    • Authentic Neutral section operation, unique in Train Sim World.
    • Fully accessible loco ‘corridor’ (machine room) including operating controls. You can walk fully between the cab ends.
    • Fully authentic sound set, supplied by Armstrong Powerhouse.
    • A unique and large number of locomotive name plates included.
    • Includes two liveries.
    • Locomotive operating tutorials.
    • Ability to start from a totally dead state.
    • Realistic Simugraph train dynamics based on real world data
Just Trains have also employed the use of a real-world Class 87 engineer to insure the authenticity of the in-game driving experience.
Though today they have since been replaced by more modern EMUs, a single main line certified example of the Class 87 still sees rail tour action along the West Coast Main Line much to the delight of enthusiasts. Players with Train Sim World 5’s core West Coast Main Line route (London Euston – Milton Keynes) will be able to use Free Roam to run rail tour services in a modern setting.
Players of Deluxe Edition may also wish to operate the Class 390 on Just Trains’ stretch of the WCML in Free Roam, albeit during an era from before these trains were introduced.
You can read more about the development of the Class 87 in a future Just Trains In Development Blog.

The Route: Preston – Carlisle (+ Morecambe Branch)
    ND24_WCML_Watermarked_Screenshots_6.jpg

With almost 100 miles of track included, West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle is the longest UK route in Train Sim World. This dramatic and high-speed stretch of line forms part of the much longer real-world WCML extending from London Euston, through to Scotland.
Preston will be familiar to players of Just Trains’ previous route Add-on Blackpool Branches, who’ll be able to make use of Train Sim World 5’s new Route Hopping feature to port between the two Add-ons. From here, the WCML continues to extend north facilitating gameplay down to the next station on the line: Lancaster.
This northern city, whose name links to the famous House of Lancaster and the wider county of Lancashire is also where a branch line splits off for some additional short form gameplay to the seaside town of Morecambe, via Bare Lane.
    ND24_WCML_Watermarked_Screenshots_3.jpg
Train will pass through Carnforth Station where, during this era, the Steamtown museum was located. Oxenholme further north then provides the real-world jumping off point for passengers keen to explore the Lake District.
On this stretch the famous Shap Summit will provide a challenge for those driving any kind of traction, climbing up to the highest point on the West Coast Main Line!
After a call at Penrith towards the northern end of the Lake District, players will reach the city of Carlisle which not only features the station but also the nearby Kingmoor depot.
You can read more about the real-world history of some of the stations and locations in Just Trains’ In Development Blog.

    Timetable, Service Layers and Gameplay

The timetable for this portion of the West Coast Main Line will depict a full 24-hour weekday based on the Working Timetable from the era and a trip notice booklet for the region. This will use the available rolling stock to feature high-speed express trains running from Preston through to Carlisle as well as local, main and freight services, including the Morecambe branch line.
Also featured is up to 6 hours of shunting gameplay at Carlisle using the Class 08 in multiple trip workings.

    Additional Service Layers
In addition, the timetable will be further filled with services and substitutions from other Train Sim World Add-ons.
Players with other Add-ons in their collection will be able to see and operate the following services on WCML Preston - Carlisle:
    • Blackpool Branches: for the Class 142 DMU and TEA wagons.
    • West Cornwall Local: for the Seacow and Turbot Wagons.
    • Tees Valley Line: for the HEA Wagons.
    • Northern TransPennine: for the Class 45 Diesel locomotive.
    • Spirit of Steam: for the LMS Jubilee steam locomotive, Mk1 Coaches, 16t Mineral Wagon and 20t Brake Van.
    • BR Heavy Freight Pack: for the Class 40 Diesel locomotive.
    • BR Class 31 Loco Add-On: for the Class 31 and PCA Wagons.
    • BR Class 20 Loco Add-On: for the Class 20 and PGA Wagons.
    • LNER Class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman
Due to the technical limitations of 8th Generation consoles, the level of some of the available features is reduced and a separate, reduced timetable will be available to players on those consoles.

Can't wait to drive the Class 87 and explore the route. Wow £32.99 it's getting more expensive but knowing Just Trains it'll be worth every penny

More JTs and less Rivets! :D

More seriously, though, if the content is good, bugs are limited, and the higher asking price is no problem. It's usually the worry that when 40 euro DLC sells, the rest is going to learn the wrong lesson from it.

    Hello :)
Is there a chance that the fog on the windshield is simulated as well as the radio, in the class 87?;)

Really looking forward to this! Bit more expensive but for this type of quality (lenght, scenerio, stock & liveries included) its still a fair price.

Hope DTG will try to work more bit like JT though..! Deff with the amount of liveries we can get!

Looking forward to this. Day One purchase even at the slightly higher price which we did kind of expect for a route and loco of this (hopefully) calibre.

I take it there will be no preorder discount?

In the meantime back off to play SimSig Carlisle a bit more (actually it's Carnforth to Gretna) and in the meantime imagine myself getting the brakes in coming down into Upperby and that spine tingling rheostatic braking sound kicking in.

Just one question for JT if they are watching as regards the 87 sounds. The default ones in TSC are spoiled by the fact the blower fan sounds continually, drowning out the rise and fall in pitch of the traction motors (same on the 86 - only the AP mod makes them sound better). Can we be assured the Class 87 will not just be a whitewall of constant blower noise?

Please make sure the windows are not tinted or foggy, this is one thing that annoyed me in TSC often, though easy to fix there.

In TSW, it doesn't work well with the Autoexposure, and a little bit of dirt is fine but the wiper area should always be fully transparent. Just saw that cab preview picture and the cab glass looks very milky.

I remember hoping that after Blackpool! Tbf the TSW5 base routes were a bit more generous.

I was initially shocked by the 40€ price tag, but considering how long the route is (literally double the length that would already be considered “acceptable” for normal full-price routes) and that it’s the first BR era electric loco in the game with all the associated tech needing to basically be developed from the ground up (since there’s no similar loco in TSW), it seems acceptable.

But let this be a sign that not everyone can dare to demand that price tag. Just Trains released the arguably best TSW route ever last year and has spent all their time since then working on one of the most ambitious UK routes to date. So people are willing to pay that price to get an above-average experience. I feel like the only other developer that could dare to ask for more than 35€ now is TSG, if they release a huge route.

Looks fantastic and i'm ok with the price, but is there a USA tax, lol? Looking at current exchange rates, it should more like $42-$43.

Buying on Steam and adding sales tax, it will cost me about $48. I shudder to think what it will cost up north (Canada ).

Much as I like the quality which will undoubtedly come with this route, I'm not going to be pushed to the $50 price point. I'll be waiting for a Christmas or New Years sale.

So I have WCL, Spirit of Steam, and Flying Scotsman, but I don't have Blackpool Branches or the other loco add ons mentioned for additional service layers. I'm not really one to purchase DLC just for another layer (the route/loco would have to interest me).

So I'm just wondering how diminished the experience will be with this route if all you get is the Class 87 for the £32.99? Just wonder if there's scope for DTG/JT to do some kind of bundle offer for those who haven't got all the layers yet?

I might reserve judgement till I've seen more previews.

Looking top notch. I’m glad to see that dynamic pricing is being put into play, an extra £2.99 for the incredibly widened scope compared to your typical DLC is a bargain IMO. Looking forward to running some BR intercity liveries finally.

Yeah it'll be $48 w/tax for me as well- like i said i'm happy to support JT's work, but that's the first time i've noticed such a wide disparity between the EUR and USD price.

The forum post above is abridged - the linked article details more of the included rolling stock. It’s not just the 87/0 - there’s a 101, an 08 and 47/4, so that should generate good traffic along the line. Preston will be quieter without the 142, no point sugar coating that, but it hopefully won’t diminish the experience too much.

The 101 should layer in there, as you can drive them on BPO.

I did a double-take at the price, but as I said on Facebook, I'm making an exception for this as it promises to be a quality route.
Yes, it's a bit more than I hoped/budgeted, but this route is still a day one purchase, it's the reason I upgraded to TSW 5.

It doesn’t layer in - it’s already part of the core route. Layers require you to have another route.

This route looks epic, however that price tag is very debatable. Only 1 NEW train and the mk3a coaches are coming, the rest is recycled stuff from past routes. So essentially all your getting is the detailed route because JustTrains makes things with quality and care (unlike DTG) and the Class 87 with the new coaches which looks good as per Just Trains creations. But $44.99 USD for this is wild to me. i thought $39.99 USD was the "New" standard and even back in the original TSW 1 days $29.99 was the standard. I understand they are a business, but this price is outrageous. I'll give them the credit of the doubt, but this is just insane for 1 route and 1 new train and the rest is recycled things albeit with new sounds and thingy's.

This is just to be expected at this point, DLCs are costing grocery prices now for 1 route with a few trains mostly recycled with new fangled sounds and such. I'm happy I don't buy anything anymore. I only buy things that are good value and I have a rudimentary scale on how I decide if something is of value. I work hard for my money and I aint gonna spend it for some virtual route and new trains when I can spend the same amount of money on food and water to keep myself alive. The fact prices are high now to where things cost a grocery store restock or the prices are equivalent to buying food from the store is insane. No thanks I'd rather spend my hard earned cash on myself to help myself live in an overly polarized world where people don't' think common sense and can't show businesses that they cannot take advantage of the consumers and where we don't think twice about how we (not me) pour our hard earned cash into the greedy suds from Chatham. But that's just me :)

Don't know if anyone noticed but some of the containers have Freightliner branding could that mean that the Freightliner license is back something to possibly find out during the preview stream 464384968_1101912065274292_1148398561110769273_n.jpg

You do know the route is 100 miles long right? That's enough to justify a higher price along with the quality and gameplay of the route, regardless of whether or not there's a new train.

The Class 47 isn't just recycled, there is more liveries listed and so potentially more names that didn't come with Blackpool and branches - until we see the rolling stock in detail we don't know if they've done anything to the other stock that on the face of it looks to be from the DTG stable. The new sounds and thingy's you mention, well guess what, that takes time and means that people need to be paid for that time whilst they're doing it. Obviously if you don't like the price you can choose not to purchase, but it is definitely worth the extra for the amount of things represented in the route.

The poster mentioned that it would be quiet at Preston due to the lack of 142s, and I meant that the 101 will substitute the BPO services instead, therefore it wouldn't be any quieter :)
