That's actually a nice short documentary about the E94.

At 1:38, I see it being used on the Rhine I think, makes me wonder whether it could be layered to LFR?

At 3:50, the cab looks really cool and has a decent "steering wheel". Reminds me a bit of a vessel's cabin. It probably will be lots of fun to drive in there.

Looking forward to this route. What a surprise to get the German Crocodile, I was not expecting that one, neither the route location.

It does look fun to drive and sounds awesome, hopefully it will sound similar in game.

If it fits in with the LFR time period and is suitable then it would be good to see it replace some of the class 110's on freight services.

    What we know about Mittenwaldbahn:
    ÖBB 1020 (E94) Krokodil
    n-Wagen as Silberlinge

Rolling stock in 1989 already implemented in the game:
    BR 111 (non Oceanblue-Beige)
    BR 218 (non-Oceanblue-Beige)
    n-Wagen (non-Silberlinge)
    V60
BR 110 (though I couldn't find it on Mittenwaldbahn at the time, only way later)
BR 103 (ICs only drove to Munich with the 103, then with the 111-> thus won't be needed)
    (Various freight cars)

Rolling stock in 1989 not implemented in the game:
ÖBB 1042/1044 -> 1044 would be great also for the other Austrian routes!
Schlierenwagen -> (will likely be substituted with Silberlinge)
BR 141/140/139 -> (I am still dreaming, but more likely 110 or 111)
    Bm and ABm-Wagen (Oceanblue-Beige) -> (likely LFR-clones?)
n-Wagen (Hasenkasten) -> (no way, way more likely Karlsruher Kopf in Oceanblue-Beige livery)
AI: 628 (old version) -> (never ever, they likely stick with the existing one)
And last but not least: Gläserner Zug (!!!) -> imo a MUST for Mittenwaldbahn

It's also notable that all pics with 111s I found were with the single-arm pantograph not with the scissor panto!

I hate sounding like a broken record, but that’s another pretty solid no.

I will be practical here. I settle for the n-wagen mint turquoise and the BR 218 in orient red if we can get the layers for Niddertalbahn for the 2 of them.

Okay fair enough, I know very littl about German railways although trying to learn.

Hopefully one day TSG might make a suitable freight loco for LFR.

Whilst I've stopped buying German routes because I'm starting to find them repetitive, especially to look at, this one has wowed me as I love everything vintage and I've always wanted to drive this very unique loco. In addition it's set in a part of Austria that is very beautiful.
    Day 1 purchase for me.

At last some of my prayers have been answered! And considering TSG (TSA?) is behind it, this one will be an instant buy for me :D

Whilst I wasn't expecting another German/Austria border route, I'm very very pleased to see that it's this one. It's definitely the most spectacular and beautiful of them all. I think I was seven years old when travelling there for the first time, and looking out of the window while descending along the Martinswand absolutely TERRIFIED me :o
Another plus, finally we get another slower, single-track route... those are sorely lacking on TSW's German route roster in my opinion. All the modern, fast, double-track, electrified main routes start getting a little bit repetitive and boring. There are just soooo many of them now.
The fact that this one's set in the past, especially the late 80's, makes it fresh and interesting and an instant win for me personally. That's the era when I had my first contacts with trains and when I fell in love with them

The LFR 110 could feel right at home on this route, if even on the part between Mittenwald and Garmisch. It would also be the perfect playground for an appropriately-coloured 111 with the corresponding rolling stock. Let's see how much of that we'll get.

About the 1020 I've got mixed feelings. On one side, it's very cool to get a vintage loco like that and it surely will be a ton of fun to drive. On the other side, it's bit of a shame that (seemingly) we don't get the German version, a late-in-life E94, too (yet). Also, it can't be of much use on any other route except this one. OK, the same would go for the E94. But perhaps we'll see more vintage routes in the future, I'll definitely keep up my hopes :)

As hyped as I am for the new route, one tiny little down point:
Secretly I was hoping the new TSG route would be something diesel-focused, with the amazing 218 as lead character, front and center. This loco not having it's "own" route is a bit of a shame, really. It deserves better. (And the even more neglected n-Wagen diesel cab car as well)

Totally agree with you! I think an E40 (DB 140) (in Oceanblue-Creme livery) would have been better suited for this route ! However, this E94 opens the way to more historical routes, both AT and DE. And that 218... It deserves a medium route all its own, possibly single track!
PS. The Green livery looks like it will be there!

I agree the 218 deserves its own route. Hopefully one day.

I would have preferred a proper German E94 as well but I wager it will be hours at most before a DB livery is available on Creator’s Club post release. Of course, it won’t be a perfect match for a German configuration but I will certainly take her for a spin on most German routes (via free roam).

Same. As soon as there's a livery of a dark green DB E94 available, I'll take her to pull some freight from Mainz to Koblenz for sure :)

Sure, but I dont't know how it could be done - releasing BR 218 together with a new route after the loco already been released as "standalone" DLC. Can still remember people complaining about BR363 being a part of Dresden-Riesa, that you are kind of paying twice fo the same thing.

Sadly, the last 194s were retired by DB in the early 90s, so by the time of LFR they were in museums or scrapped. No, what TSW desperately needs is an Einheitselectrolok appropriate for freight, a 139/40/50; or the mighty 151. I vote for the 140 since it was equally used for local passenger service.

Yeah, in that way the 218's existence ironically, and sadly, makes it less likely that we'll get a proper diesel mainline to use the 218 on.

Wholeheartedly agree. The 140 is very versatile, and could be used on many other routes as well due to its long service life. And for the people who say "it's too similar to the 110", I point towards the 143, 112 and 114. Would never have imagined we'll get all three of them either. :)

I could think of three ways to make a new, 218-themed route work:
    1. Make it a vintage route with blue/beige 218 and original silver n-Wagen as main feature. Set it in the late 80's, this way the 628 and 363/365 could be layered in for more variety. The blue/beige 218 and silver n-Wagen could in return layer into Mittenwaldbahn, Niddertalbahn and LFR, with silver cabs for both electric and diesel drive.
    2. Make it a major diesel route with comparatively lots of freight traffic, and give us a 290 for that. The 218 could take on passenger service. This way, we would get another (sorely lacking) loco which could sub into many other routes as added benefit, and the 290 and 218 wouldn't detract from one another.
    3. Instead of selling the route with a new loco, sell it with a new feature. For example, give us the Marschbahn from Niebüll to Westerland, with working car transport, loading and unloading included.

Hope we don't drift too far off-topic here :o:D

Well, Marschbahn would be one of the rare options where you could include a different diesel loco (the 245) with the route and have the 218 sub in anyway.

I understand what you're saying but if a period diesel mainline was produced and included the 218 I wouldn't complain.

I only drive it on Maintalbahn as I just find I don't enjoy the TOD3 routes now as the lighting is poor. If the Hamburg to Lubeck had got a upgrade similar to Cathcart I would have been happier. Of course it's not a TSG route so was up to DTG to do it so it was a different situation to Cathcart.

Cathcart is a DTG route. As are Sherman Hill and Boston-Providence, which also got TOD4 upgrades

I think that'd make more sense. I can already see the backlash of the 218 releasing as a DLC loco a few months ago and now having to buy it again as the complaint goes for a different route it comes with.

However the current DLC is already outdated and in TOD3. this means we'll get two 218's for the different TOD's. on whatever route that great loco returns. there will be some different complaints. Either buying it "again", why wasn't it updated to TOD4 with HBK or put on it's own route from the start. At least it's a great loco that TSG made up to their standard so there won't be much "why is it being reused and is't a different train better" I'd personally say if it gets it's own route it'll have to be in a different era to make most people happy. Though I thought DTG stepped away from linking loco's to routes, so maybe trying to see loco DLC as additions to the existing and coming routes would be something we need to do. Although a 218 focussed route would be cool.

Getting back to the topic I hope that we are getting layers for the DB Br 218 in Mittenwaldbahn and as an extra in Niedertalbahn. If not the plan, i do not mind if the layers come with as a single dlc. I will buy it!

Would a 218 even get up the gradient on the Mittenwaldbahn.

Ah I thought this was another thread. I'm very excited for Mittenwaldbahn yeah. I love more austrian content and I myself have been to Garmisch as well. I loved TSG's Niddertalbahn and this seems alike but even better. The era as well sounds very interesting. I'd love more stock for my Salzburg - Rosenheim timetable project but playing railroader recently has given an immense relight interest in old stock (and steam but that's dead in TSW)

The 1020 and Silberlinge in the pictures looks like an amazing thing to drive. especially on the quality TSG have constantly delivered on every release. I do hope there's a decent amount of stock coming with this route. I read a few things can layer back and loco dlc's exist. to me just the 628 and 365 made Niddertalbahn a bit more monotonous and not diverse, even with the LFR AI. But I will get this route first second it releases because it already looks amazing.

Considering 218s were regularly used on the 6% of Boppard - Emmelshausen, I'd wager yes.

That's not correct. The 218 DLC is not made for a specific TOD. It handles both as expected.

Ah cool, I never knew that. I just expected it to be the TOD of the route it came on (Hamburg - Lubeck) and not on both. TSG keeps managing to amaze me. Good luck on developing this route, I personally got insanely excited when I saw it in the roadmap

This is the original n-Wagen interior. The one we have currently in-game is the result of a 1990s refurb.

Depends. That was true of the ubiquitous 703, but others like the 416 and 418 had open-plan first class.

Can those of us travelling in second class get a hard plastic seat for the gaming room, to emulate the sore bum after 40 minutes of sitting on them!

I think we definitely need a scenario or a mastery that pays homage to the awful seating that DB (and many other European railways) used to inflict on passengers in second class!

Mind you, the imperative for DB in the 50s was to get passenger coaches on the rails, fast; for various reasons we won't go into there had been a radical drop in inventory a few years before. The n-Wagen were not supposed to be great, just better than the ancient Landerbahn coaches that were still being used on branch lines. There even were some Donnerbuchse still in service!\

Presumably they had wooden seats? So I guess plastic/faux leather was a considerable step up!

    Indeed they did.
Some even only had a single wooden plank for a backrest so you got at least something to keep you from tumbling over backwards if you leant back.
Most were proper wooden benches though, third class in the olden days, later labeled second class after the termination of the three classes system. Similar to these from the 1928 Berlin S-Bahn "Stadtbahner".
    IMG_20241003_104645_HDR~2.jpg
They also came in second class with closed ends instead of open platforms and some kind of upholstery to park your derrière onto.

They need to have the classic Alpenstaubsauger ÖBB Baureihe 1044/1144 and Deutsche Bundesbahn Baureihe 491 Gläserner Zug Baureihe 139 to be the era correct 1980s. Another one would be Austrian toaster ÖBB Baureihe 1043 15kv 16.7hz AC version of 11kv 16.7-25hz and 25kv 60hz AEM-7 ALP-44

Slight correction: It's stainless steel, not aluminum ;)
But I agree, incredibly cool! And we finally get an ABn (with first class compartments) too!

While we don't see it in the pictures, I somewhat take it for granted that we'll get a fitting cab car as well. Treating us to some amazing original blank steel Bn and ABn, but leaving out the cab car, would feel half-baked and is not TSG's style in my eyes. Considering how much effort they put into all the other rolling stock on the route (and their past releases), it would feel like an uncharacteristic oversight.

Sooo looking forward to this route now :D

Already asked this question in the reveals speculation thread, but would think it’s more appropriate in here:

In the article it states that 63km of route is included. Mittenwaldbahn officially has 56km. This will be the route until Innsbruck Westbahnhof. But the main station is only around the corner and would not justify those extra 7km, or would it? Any idea's what those extra km could be?

Tbf, in all pictures I have seen of this area and timeframe I have never seen any cab cars. I would think other rolling stock would be more welcome, like a 141 or even a 628.0. Also, in the Discord Lukas has confirmed that the locos always shunt around at their terminus, which I do favour over a cab cars, tbh…
