The 'Go Via Location' coming into Worcester makes the ATC approach far too cautious. The last few miles is slower than necessary, especially with no traffic in front of you.
The devs have a ps5 though. They could have literally played 1 service and found the bug. They apparently do have in house testers too...
sounds reasonable, now, what does that mean ... it can be realistic, no idea myself, but this value shows that increase I was looking for... so whatever it is supposed to be, it gives the engine/acceleration an almost 2x boost, for some reason... y know, I am trying to understand here how come most of notches have slug-like acceleration/power delivery, and then bam last two notches are like hitting a nitro
aaaand the last stretch can get you some penalty applications as you enter Restricted 20 territory, sometimes it doesnt detect you braking enough or sth... one time it gave me penalty, the other time not, no idea
I've get an odd self braking in front of Boston South station. The place with 2 signals(first with 15 mph restriction, second with 10 mph). Both signals was yellow on track monitor. Just coasting at 10 mph between them and got full brakes application without safety system sounds or something. After the full stop I've just applied the throttle and train is continued moving as if nothing had happened. What was that?
I was able to earn a platinum medal by driving around in circles until I hit 4,000 AP and then stopping. Not ideal, but it worked!
Downloaded the route early this am was testing it out ..enjoying it so far 1 possible issue i ve found is no intermodal cars spawn at Wooster just get a few sets of CSX ac4400s and 1 NS es44ah ..everything else freight wise is there at Framingham etc i have all the necessary freight Dlc s needed and i playing on a series X.
Did a nice sunset run in the CTC-3 cab car and I have to say, it was very pretty. The scenery is beautiful in sunset, especially the areas with the lakes. Then as it became darker, the night lighting seemed pretty good through the route. The woody areas were nice and dark, then locations with lights and buildings had a nice dim glow to them. So good job on that one! And as others have said, the sounds are nice in the cab car. Love the rolling sounds and the joint rattles. Going over junctions at higher speeds gives a really nice sound, I love it. A few issues I noticed with the CTC-3 cab car though: Alerter button lights up, but never makes any warning sounds. In Boston Sprinter it had a loud alarm if you didn't acknowledge. Now it will just flash silently then give penalty braking. Overspeed warning light will sometimes remain lit even when not overspeeding anymore. Cab ceiling light textures are overly bright and just blank white. Just like the F40, the cab indicators lights are really bright, making them barely readable. I don't think the BRAKE REL and BRAKE APP lights work?
trying conductor mode: - there is fog in the cars when foggy outside - there was invisible luggage on the path, i could clear it (and i suspect an invisible passenger as i missed one that time) - When leaving boston back bay, a person with a ticket from boston south to boston back bay was still valid. it seems to check only if the station names are on the route, not if you are already passed them - Opening the local door and you are trampled by passengers exiting - Trap door is often wrong - There is a visualisation bug where an open door appears closed on the single deck wagons when seen from a bit further away - often only 1 or 0 passengers to check (6 stops in a row with zero passengers) - is it normal there is no door here (single deck connected to locomotive)? Also you don't hear the engine unless you ruhn up against the barrier - you can take off with all(most) doors open ,depending the order of buttons you press
Currently enjoying the route and especially the freight services! nice and detailed scenery , and the HSP46 has nice chugging (only done training module for now)!
That's accurate; the vestibules of the non-cab Comet/Shoreliner/Horizon coaches are open on the ends, hence the lock bar across the vestibule.
I play on PC with a RailDriver controller and mouse/keyboard. On the HSP46, the reverser has trouble going "forward" via the controller. Also sometimes it happens to return to "neutral" position by itself. While trying to get out of this situation, I removed the stick from the reverser and it became impossible to put it back, neither with the controller nor with the mouse. Still on the HSP46, the acknowledgement of the safety systems is not linked to the control of the alerter on the "Alert" button of the RailDriver, while this is usually the case on most locos. I think I have noticed the same thing on other locos of this route. On the CTC5, would it be possible to control the "holding brake" using the independent brake lever of the RailDriver? Today, it does not work. Thank you
Quite a few of them. I also had at least 2 now that restricted me to 30, then 20 MPH while still miles out of Worcester. There is a go-via right around the curve out of Worcester and the signal doesn't change until you reach it, so approach is very slow. I can't remember the service number of my latest run, but it was the one that's around 1 hour and 20 minutes (a bit shorter then the regular all stopper ones) and I believe it started sometimes between 15:00 and 16:00.
I was doing this service "See image below" someone else posted an issue with it, I did complete it but I was hit with a penalty brake, and at a low speed, where the speed limit changed so quickly as I watched the Playback, ironically I was only 1 min late but doing this service in the last 0.7 miles stay below 25 and even closer to 20Mph. -- I downloaded that PDF file, 190 Pages, it is all very technical and more for the Techs to diagnose and repair, I scanned through that doc, and there is nothing in it that remotely explains either of these SLF, LD, or GHP. But what does keep coming up is EPA (US Thhiing) standards this Loco meets, and it would seem it is part of the computer system that sees the load and calculates the weight and how to apply power, as in where to send the power to, all bogies and all traction motors, or just enough power to get and keep moving. It may even have a system that shuts down cylinders to save fuel, "like in some cars" where I "think" this refers to is "Self Load check and then uses the Gross HP. Just off the top of my head.
Lol right? My riding experience with them has been on Metro-North, and usually the conductor will lock out the door closest to the locomotive. This way it's not exposing passengers to the elements and noise. Some of the shuttle trains out of Brewster would even have the whole car closest to the locomotive locked out!
Boston Worcester - CSX Q436 Selkirk, NY to Framingham, MA (09:35) is uncompleteble because the end marker is put a few yard behind a absulute red stop marker That will not change to green. it’s so sad because the whole journey is so good up until the end please fix this because it’s one of my favorites
Don't know if this was mentioned already but F40PH has some seriously bright headlights, even if only set to dim setting. Driving at night in fog just blinds everything in front and you can barely see anything.
When you drive the Acela (yard to Boston South) at 08.33 there are 3 or 4 acelas in the yard. When you spawn on foot in timetable mode, the Acela's are not there, neither do they move from the yard to the station. I would expect that all timetable services are there at all times. PS5.
had the same issue with the sd40 CSX B72 run (18:00) after I pickt up the cars in the Yard at westborough and wanted to leave for Framingham a red licht at the end of the yard gives an absolute red stop and won’t change.. also the run where u move the engines from Worcester yard to Framingham the same signal as in the run Q436 does work now and let you move inside the yard but 300 feet before the end marker the whole game chrased on me ..
We had to implement a workaround for services heading into Worcester that encountered a train leaving Worcester at the same time. This is why you'll sometimes have a forced Stop signal at CP-44.
Just wondering, did you contact the dispatcher to see if they would allow you by that signal at restricted speed?
First thing which stuck out to me is just how few services there are to run, the timetable for me is an enormous disappointment. Only 26 passenger services in each direction, ~55 total. The replay value isn’t there. It was going to be an easy 5 stars on the PS store, but the lack of services would have me second guess buying this again. 3/5
Thanks for trying this run and recreate the problem. do you play on PC or console? I play on a PS5 so maybe that’s why I had the problem. But could you explain one more time what you did to complet it ?
Haha i did, at one point I spammed the button and also tried to remove the train in front of me still no green light
Well yeah, the timetable seems to be pretty much all trains going into Boston in the morning, then going back west in the afternoon. Very few trains in-between or in the other directions. But if that's how the line is in real life, there's not much to do about it, so I don't mind.
plenty enough replay value for me on this route playing 1 service takes long enough and that times 55 is plenty hours of fun
Just had a very strange happening. Running on pc using Rail Driver. Doing service P514 with CTC-5 cabcar leading. Was running fine into Boston when at Auburndale, after the stop, couldn't get the Loco to load and look down and the reverser key had gon4 into neutral. With manipulation, got it into forward and was able to proceed. At the next station, West Newton, same thing finally at Newtonville the key was in "key out" position and it would show on screen when I put my cursor over it but could not get it to turn. As soon as I moved the cursor away it was gone from the slot. Have a save just before this stop, so later will try Newtonville again.
Excellent Job on the HSP46! Only thing I found is the ditch lights don't flash when you sound the bell. In real life the ditch lights will flash when you sound the bell. Just like you did for the MBTA F40 and the Cab cars. Hopefully that is an easy fix on your end because that would make the HSP46 that much more realistic. Thank you for your effort in this route! Well Done!
They did it on the F40 and Cab cars. Don't know why they didn't do on the HSP46. Hopefully its fixed soon.
Well, went back and ran P514 from the save and had no problems this time. Finished the service without further issues. To all to Caltrain900's post above, when you sound the horn in the CTC-5 cabcar, the bell does not activate, that is if is does on the real car.
P503. Penalty brake exactly 100 yards before the stop marker in Worcester. Speed was around 10 mph with initial brakes applied. What the black brake lever(I forgot how it names) actually do in CTC-5? I didn't notice any brakes application at all when I put it in full position.
My apologies, I'm on PC Steam. I First set up the lead loco turned on the DPU breaker, and checked the trailing loco was set a Trailing unit, I then went to the DPU unit and set it as shown in the image, and made sure the DPU breaker was on. From there I just stayed below the speed limit as best I could, for the most part, I just followed the signals, I did contact the signaler before starting off, but that is it. Nothing special, other than maybe the time spent going between the lead and DPU unit was enough time to allow any AI trains to get through that area at the end. Trailing DPU
The tooltip says it's a holding brake. I don't know how it differs from a regular independent brake, but what I noticed is that it won't do much when in motion. But if you stop with regular brake, apply the holding brake and release the regular brakes, then it will hold and prevent rolling. I assume it can be useful for quicker starts from stations, as it releases quicker than the whole train brakes, so you can take off quicker once the doors closed.
I was finally able to try this route. I like it and I cannot recall major issues up to date. Just one thing: When I (on PS5) want to change the camera view from inside to outside, the camera sometimes doesn't change to a view from outside, instead it remains inside the cab and you can see the driver in the seat from behind. I don*t know, if that is related to the route, but I never encountered this on any other route before.
Yeah, gameplay and simulations wise it definitely seems to be one of the smoothest launches. Most issues are mostly just cosmetic, though there are a few big offenders (like the F40PH headlights). Though talking about simulation, on my most recent run I noticed that the ditch light fuse doesn't do anything. You can turn it off, but the ditch lights remain operational. Interestingly the headlight fuse works as expected. Sure, it's not an important thing, because who goes around playing with the ditchlight fuse anyway. But why make it interactable if it doesn't even work?
I did a service like a day ago, I think it was F40PH, and first time (a day before that) I got a penalty application as I was trying to slow down for 20mph restriction (put 70% brakes and acknowledged, still got it for some reason, but since I put the brakes into Suppression super-quickly and back into release, and managed to put the notch to like 7, I kept moving ), but this time I didnt get penalty for some reason... and as I was heading towards the stop, I put only little automatic brake and a little bit of individual brake, and somehow managed to stop like 20 ft from the red signal before the penalty kicked in, at which point I was already perfectly aligned at stop marker, well, almost ... I guess I was just lucky wow, kudos for the research ... got us a bit closer to why the power spike happens... so here is my present theory: you start at notch 2-3 to get moving, then use notches one by one to steadily keep amperage, revs and tractive effort steady, to kinda get the engine moving and revving, and at 7 you finally get it into real accelerating mode, with 8 just upping that... and as soon as you reach near the speed limit, you use the lower notches to maintain speed, depending on gradient I still dont get why the difference between especially 6 and 7 is so BIG, like, whats the logic behind that
Well I do wonder if something is off with either the HSP46 or the F40, because the F40 seems much more nimble than the HSP46. Despite being an older locomotive, it seems to accelerate and brake much quicker.
Thanks, it is still just what sounds like it could be, but Just guessing. When and If I can get better info I will update as needed.
Spotted an AI train coming out of Boston, HSP46 with the unit number 0942. I am guessing this is a typo, as far as I know HSP46s run 2000–2039 and there is no such thing as 0942 on any loco in the MBTA. Also I concur with what others have said, being that this has to be the smoothest launches in TSW history. I have done 3 full runs of the route now and haven't really felt anything wrong with it beyond cosmetic stuff.
I mean as far as I am aware that is the accurate timetable. They can't invent services, that is the MBTA's timetable. And as far as replayability whether there are 26 services or 260 they will all be basically the same run between Boston and Worcester, all that changes is the time/sun position really and a few different stopping patterns. If the real life timetable had 100 services and DTG only modeled 26 that would be one thing but I don't know how anyone can criticize a real life timetable.
Just noticed something that might be an issue, I am going to mess around with it and see... but there seems to be an issue with Amtrak AI services showing up... so far I've never really seen Amtrak trains at South Station... Right now, I just arrived at the station on service P510. At 9am there should be a Amtrak train (I am not sure if it is Acela or ACS-64) departing from platform 9. The PIS shows the train as boarding... but there is no train there. I free-cammed over to the Southampton yard/loop and there are two stationary ACS-64 sets there. But nothing at the station other than MBTA. This seems odd because thereis always Amtrak there on Boston Providence. I have all the DLC installed and the game lets me select the Acela or ACS-64 from menu but so far I haven't seen either of them show up as AI. This is on PS5. EDIT: I have been fooling around spawning in on foot at times when the PIS says Amtrak should be there... and the issue seems to be with Acela services. The ones marked "NE Regional" will be there when the PIS says they are supposed to but the ones that just say "Washington" (I am assuming these are Acelas) will just be empty track. The PIS will even show "boarding" when the train is supposed to depart but the track is empty. I tried spawning into an Acela service myself (10:27 depot move) and it loaded fine, when I did that there was also an AI Acela parked next to me. But then if I spawn into the game on foot at 10:25 neither of those Acelas are there at Southampton where they should be. So there definitely seems to be an issue with AI Acelas spawning on PS5. I am guessing this is related to the add on manager.
